  1. I load my p14-45 with 230gr xtreme plated at 1.265 with 4.2 gr Clays powder no problem making major, no feed problems except with paras new mags that came with the gun, so I use my old ones.
  2. Thanks, ParaGunner, it looks like the Ed Brown Part 822 has that longer middle finger so it should work. Gunsmith replaced the hammer/sear with the good Wilson parts (original were junk MIM) so no more hammer drop. Am trying to get a 2.5 trigger pull like my old para had. What do you have yours set to? Don't know if the ed brown will help.
  3. Does anyone other than Guncraft make a short trigger for this gun? Also am looking for a sear spring (3 finger), other than stock, the Wilson one is too short. Thanks..........
  4. Multi-focal contacts are what my doc suggested for clear vision near and far. Anyone have experience with these?
  5. Mine does it every 40-50 rounds, adjusted, new shell plate (45acp), I just back off a hair and pull the handle gently down. Do not have a fix...
  6. Have several of the new mags, some with dawson pads, some with arredondo, some with stock followers and some with arredondo 'blue followers' NO problems. The new para p14-45 pro custom magwell as well as the Dawson magwell will not fit the old para mag extensions or the arrendondo without some filing. For some reason the Mec-Gars (made in Italy) that came with the gun base pads will not fit on the Mec-gar mags (made in Italy) that I bought several months ago. My gun does have the new EGW extractor, but the junk MIM hammer/sear which will be replaced this week. The new Tomasie p16-40 will have the EGW fire control system as well as the egw extractor. I intend to have a long discussion with Para as to why the cheap MIM fire control on everything else. When I built my old para in 1995, my friend had me replace almost all the internals with either Guncraft or Wilson parts, Never a failure except for the stock barrel link that broke last year. I will keep an eye out for any FTFs when I get the gun back. THANKS..........

    P16-40 re-release?

Just a guess, but they may need to get replacement parts for the junk MIM parts, IF that's what they are using on the 40s.
  8. I thought they were using a good extractor or is that mim also.
  9. Looks like the problem was junk hammer/sear parts from Para. Will be putting in Wilson hammer/sear....Thanks to all who helped.
  10. Thanks Jedi, the trigger was replaced by a short guncraft trigger, right from the start, but I will have him check everything. Trigger is about 2 1/2 lbs. Other mods were pin grip safety, Wilson wide stainless thumb safety, also changed magwell with a dawson (like aluminum look better than stock black) , plus a stainless beavertail blended narrower than stock. Stock sear, hammer. Gun is a para p14-45 pro custom. About 200 rounds so far....Again, Thanks......
  11. Work was done by a gunsmith. Series 80 removed and spacer plates put in, no side to side play. It happen on my old para and the new one. I never noticed before on the old para. It does not happen each time but maybe every 5-10 times.
  12. Just saw this post. My p14-45 para will sometimes have the hammer go almost all the way forward but not hit the firing pin when there is no mag in the gun and the slide is released with the slide release lever. It does not happen every time and never happens if there is a mag in with ammo. Trigger pull is 21/4 to 21/2 lbs. Normal?
  13. Can anyone recommend a good eye doctor in the Northern Virginia area? Someone at the local gun shop said there was a doc who shoots pistols in Fairfax,Va. and understands front sight/distance targets etc. etc. Thanks...........
  14. My Dawsons hold 17 (45acp 230gr rn) but I can have 1 in the chamber. I purchased their spring and followers from them (arrendondo blue) but I still had to take a coil off the spring for the 17th to comfortable fit so it would feed with 1 in the chamber. If you take 2 coils off you could get 18 (tight) but would weaken the spring. Also if you just mount the extension with no follower/spring you will notice that the dawson extension is slightly too small. you can see the 'lip' when you look down. I dremeled the inside so no lip was showing. No problems in my old p14-45. No problems so far after 100 rounds thru my new p14-45 custom. As a side note arrendondo and stock para extended base pads will not fit the new magwell. You have to do some fitting (filing) for them to seat. Do not file the magwell. Dawsons are good to go.
  15. Ordered Mike and Bens book, thanks for the input......
  16. Slightly longer, have round count 'windows' on back. Will fit new para pro-custom p14-45 magwell with dawson extended base pads and also with arrendo/para extended with a little fitting (filing). Also slightly different follower, but dump paras for arrendo blue to maximize capacity. Also made in Italy by Mecar.
  17. Just made C class, have Brians book. Any feedback on 'Shooting Techniques of the Grand Masters' as advertised in the Dillion catalog??
  18. Kcobean, its not hypnosis, its subliminal relaxation methods hidden within the messages on the tape. On the starting line you use a 'trigger' (not the one on your gun) to get you into a state of relaxation, say count backwards from 5. Then you make ready etc. This method was popular the 1960-1970 time frame in professional sports. The Dallas Cowboys used similar relaxation from studies done by the Univ. of Dallas or some such organization. Joe Namath used to get to the stadium 1-2 hours before the game and sit on the sidelines looking at the field. He wasn't studying plays but using a relaxation technique and it was reported that his 'trigger' was 'Ball'. I used tapes made by one of those organizations when I raced and it worked very well. How well it will work in USPSA I intend to find out. Joe...
  19. Why did the extractor need tuning? What kind of tuning? Thanks........
  20. I have the Dawson extended bases on my p14-45 para, with the new mags and old most they hold is 16 (14 is std.) Do I need to cut down the extended springs they recommend to get 18???
  21. Lucky you have that clays, around here in Northern VA. impossible to find....
  22. Put a mark on your adjustment screw and see if it moves when you get these variations. According to Dillion within .1 is the standard of their powder measure. Also, what bullets are you using to make major ? 3.7 of clays seems lite. How does the n310 shoot in comparison to clays. I use 4.1 - 4.2 clays with 230gr RN xtreme plated to make major....
  23. Excellent test......I am going to try xtreme plated 45acp 4.2 clays with Bayou green coated lead with 3.9 in my 5" para and see if my results are similar. I would have thought your results would have been the other way around. Just shows, you just have to TEST....
  24. Also you loaded to a different OAL, were they the same 230gr.rn?
  25. Doesn't the para pro custom 14-45 double stack hold 3 more 45acp than the edge or eagle STI ????
