  1. This has also been my experience. I love the precision during adjustments especially when changing bullet profile. I load 40 cal exclusively on my 650 and lower round count sizes on my 550.
  2. This is the combination I run. Specifically, for a 32 round stage I start with the 170 and found after 16-20 rounds the extra weight aids in dropping the mag for reload. But as others have said, practice with a particular combination and get good at it. Good luck.
  3. Sarge, do you shoot coated bullets in your open gun? How often do you spray during a match? Thanks
  4. Used about 10,000 in the past year. Not only run good my 650 have had flawless results in my open gun. These primers are a great value.
  5. Had my builder do a 1.5 lb in my recent Open build. Have been shooting 1.5 for the last 10 years. Had a few AD's in the first few months but no problems last 10 years
  6. Shooting STI Trubor 38 Super with a 90 degree Quinn III mount. Load is 115 gr PD with 10 gr AA#7 Zero at 15 yards. Since I have a dot that is close to the bore, only small adjustments needed out to 25 yards.
  7. Job is taking me to Grand Rapids for the next 3 months. Locations of USPSA indoor matches in Grand Rapids appreciated.
  8. It would be helpful to know if you have installed any aftermarket primer slide parts?
  9. I shot my first open gun without a thumbrest for about a month. Then I put a DDA adjustable thumbrest on and WOW! what a difference. As suggested in other replies, it anchors your left hand for a better grip. Good luck.
  10. Joe4d, thank you. Your entire answer was very helpful. Your suggestion to slow down is something I need to work on. I have confidence in loading 9mm and 40 cal and can make a good rate with both. Need to change my thinking as I load my first rifle rounds.
  11. Joe4d, thanks for responding. I am just about ready to start loading 338 win mag. What powder has worked best for you? Thanks
  12. Could not agree more. I tested Berrys, RMR, Rainer and Xtreme just to see which plated worked best in my .40 cal. All were accurate out to 10 yards. But that is where the difference showed. I found that for my BarSto Match Target barrel, Xtreme plated were very accurate at 15 yards. The others were all over the target. I then shot HP's from MG and PD. The plated in my barrel was as accurate as the HP's. Look forward to saving $'s shooting plated without the hassle of cleaning lead.
  13. Same, prefer Federal SRP but will use Winchester if on sale.
  14. AA#7 is one of the best metering powders on the market and I have found to be temperature insensitive. You might also check for something else like OAL. If your shell plate is too loose, you will get wide OAL variation which will affect PF.
  15. Same, for me to get the proper ergo leverage I need to stand. Love both machines.
  16. Thanks. Seems like AA7 &124 or 125 grain is a good place to start with load development. Could you share overall length and any other particulars like primer type used? I chose 115 gr JHP from Precision Delta rather than MG. I'm hesitant to share OAL because each gun/chamber is unique. Use the Plunk Test method to determine OAL and then see if your mags will feed at that length. I did find that Accurate Arms listed load data was a good place to start for beginning load charge. I used either Federal or Winchester SRP's. Good luck.
  17. I have been shooting this combo for a long time. My dot tracks the best with AA#7 but I have tried them all. Good luck.
  18. I used this for loading 9mm on a Dillon 550. It works well but remember you are using up one of the stations on the tool head which means you will need to use their Seat/Crimp combo die.
  19. +1 on Gans. Within the past month he finished my 1911 build. Ran 100% from day one.
  20. The lifetime warranty is probably the main reason I chose the 650. Even though the 1050 is recognized a more sturdy machine, stuff does break, parts wear out and we often tend to do stupid things to our machines. Once you get a 650 dialed in it is a thing of beauty.
  21. Your goal is reachable. Look for a used STI Trubor chambered in 9MM. Stay away from 38 Super. Brass is expensive. Welcome to the wonderful Open world.
  22. I'm switching over to JHP's from Hi Tec Coated. There is some crud in my comp but not so much to affect accuracy or function. Is there a spray I can use to prior to shooting JHP's that will blow the crud out?
  23. I bought 2 MBX 170's and had to tune the feed lips. They were waaaaaay out of spec from the factory. MBX offered to fix but the price of shipping was not worth it and I ended up doing it myself. They now run reliably well.
