  1. Light cleaning after 500 rounds. Extractor tunnel after 750 rounds. Complete tear down somewhere after 2500-3000 rounds.
  2. Any popple holes? If so, how many? It will make a difference.
  3. Agree with Hi Power. Here is the most unprofessional advice you will get. Go to Walmart and buy a cheap shower cap and drape it over your entire gun. I have been doing this for years with great results in keeping everything dry. I've recently started using a pink colored cap just to get a rise out of the men on my squad. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  4. Great advice from ddc. Their phone number is 480-948-8009. Be sure to add your Country code.
  5. For those of you shooting coated bullets (BBI, Blue, Acme etc.) what is the max velocity you have found that will not gunk up your compensator?
  6. Yep, meters great and very consistent drops when loading 40 cal. I polished the inside baffle on the powder tube and have had many years of trouble free loading. Good luck.
  7. Don't listen to the nay sayers. As my name implies, I shot 38 Super for many years and got sick and tired of playing the brass game. My 40 is sweet and a blast to shoot. Have no trouble making major with my Brazos Thundercomp2. Go out and have fun. You will never regret shooting 40. I get 26 +1 with my MBX mags and have never been at a disadvantage compared to the 29+1 with my Supercomp mags. Yes, bullets cost a bit more but is way off set by the price of the brass.
  8. Agree. You have been given many good suggestions to try and fix this issue. Please do ONE at a time. If you change two things then you never know which one fixed the problem. Always go with the cheapest and easiest fix first. Good luck and let us know what fixed your issue.
  9. Agree. I have to favorite loads for my 38 super. 11 gr of AA7 and 9 gr of HS6 both with a 115 gr PD JHP at 168PF. The AA7 load is a bit more accurate but dot movement is less consistent. The HS6 load hits my hand a little harder but dot never leaves the glass. Love shooting both loads but when it comes to lowering split times its HS6. Welcome back.
  10. I have the same set up as Nugget. Works great.
  11. Well said. Personal preference. 8 MOA Slide Ride for me.

I use either based on availability. SR Fed or Win. Both work great at major pf.
  13. zzt, I'm currently using Acme 155 gr coated in my 40 Open. If I'm careful in my loading technique I don't damage the coating and have experienced no comp or barrel leading. The two powders I like for this load are 7.2gr Pistol CFE and 9.5 gr AA #7. I do like VV N320 but find it hard to make major without the gun being violent in my hand. Love shooting 40 Open.
  14. Bayou, you have laid out the main issue. Cost of the multiple heads. But what a beautiful machine!
  15. Back in the day, (early 2000's), STI sold 170mm .40 magazines for ParaOrdnance. Does anyone know of a source for this old school magazine? Thanks
  16. Hi zzt, At one time back about 15 years ago, Accurate Arms produced one (1) abrasive batch of AA7 and it was abrasive, dirty and generally bad news for barels. Since then, the production problem was identified and fixed so today AA7 is no more abrasive or dirty than any other powder. I have over 40K rounds thru my .40 and another 57K rounds thru my 38 Super. All have been shot with AA7. This is a double based powder so it is loud and blasty but, it is the most accurate power I have used and my CMore dot moves in a predictable up and down movement.
  17. Hey zzt, while I don't use Silhouette in my 40 Open, I also load a 155 gr with 9.5 gr of AA7. This gives me a 169PF. Great dot stability with this powder and very accurate. Been shooting this combo for a long time. I do check for setback about every 250 rounds just to be safe.
  18. Thanks. I'll take a look.
  19. I found some great info on Jared's comp. Where would I go to find info on Eric's comp? Thanks
  20. Thank you for the suggestions. I will check them out and get back with you.
  21. If you were doing a build today and had to choose between the EGW 5 port cone comp or Thundercomp 2 cone comp which would you pick? Building an Open back up gun based on existing .40 barrel.
