  1. Ive not known too many shooters to be conventional haha. Ive shot a round of sporting clays with my mossberg 930 JM and had a blast as well as learned a lot. I say go with your game gun and enjoy all of the questions and interest that will come your way, might even get a few more guys or gals to join our sport.
  2. 6. Three gunners use the forward hand to vise clamp the handguard down so hard that there is no way it can move also look for a corner of a barricade you can wedge your handguard into to help even more
  3. First off, there are no EX-Marines but yes he was correct. HOWEVER you must remeber that he was probably shooting an M4 with a 14" barrel and not free floating, and shooting some NATO grn tip ammo. All those variables into place when i used an ACOG for competition I had to memorize my real hold overs Vs. the BDC reticle. Best advice, use the tip of the chevron for a 50 yard/200 yard zero and waork your war from there to figure out the rest.
  4. if you can get really good at weak hand reloading out of a shell caddie, i have seen guys loading while shooting and moving. that is something I am trying to get down without having my own "shotgun shell yard sale" all over the stage
  5. learn how your sights move while holding offhand. usually in a figure 8 pattern. dont try to force the sight on target (muscle the weapon) or you will tire yourself out. Instead learn your patter and start your squez as the sights are heading towards the target and the shot will break while on target
  6. Get the pro grip stuff from shooters connection or wherever you can get it. it also cools our hands off while it dries. pretty awesome stuff
  7. Ive started using the grip tite stuff (goo in your hand that turns to candy smelling chalk powder) and other than it getting all over your stuff it works great to maintain the vice grip and reduce my recoil or muzle rise
  8. If this was a widespread thing, then I think it's incumbent on the MD to throw out the stage instead and stop any squad that hasn't already shot it. REF is not the correct call, and making a guy shoot it over is just a waste of ammo. Think about it this way, too--it's a violation of competitive equity if a guy shoots the stage and doesn't like his run, then claims the spinning target made him confused and demands a reshoot. Whether he shoots a spun target or not, your earlier decision to give out REF reshoots means you have to give him one here, if only to preserve competitive equity--but he could be lying, too. i thought about this more and you're right frag, i wouldn't call an REF because they couldn't tell it had been hit so shot it again, because the same argument could be given on a stage where you could see the same paper target from 3 different spots. if you finished the stage and saw 6 holes it it should you be able to demand a reshoot because you couldn't see you're other 4 holes when you got to your last position?
  9. i think its become more of the understanding that the RO's and scorekeepers have jobs to do other than keep track of a shooters gear. i don't see anyone handing their hats off or gun covers.
  10. I say it depends on the shooter, if its the guys first time, yeah help him out and he will have fun and come back and the sport will grow. if the guy has a team shirt on where he shot the nationals and so many sponsors that he has their names on his underwear and he wants a re-shoot because he forgot to turn his dot on or take the cover off, not a chance.
  11. If you have a snappy RO who's good with an overlay it is faster. simply because if the overlay shows one and the shooter still argues, pull the paper and wait for the RM and everyone else is still shooting
  12. when Jerry and Rob start falling way behind, that'll be your answer hahaha
  13. don't wear your "duck hunting" jacket to the match. and don't crouch behind a barrel haha
  14. as long as you don't jerk the trigger down you're G2G
  15. Like a friend of mine says, in USPSA we still do a slow steady squeeze of the trigger, its just faster than what a normal person is used to
  16. I like to use 200Gr BBIs, don't have to push them quite as fast and they feel pretty good. and knocking down a popper 100% is pretty nice also
  17. forearm touching, OK, fingers wrapped around a white knuckles is a no go haha
  18. if you don't shoot at it you get an FTE and a miss
  19. I use a blade tech holster and it works fine. I am getting ready to upgrade to a G-Code so i can use it in 3-gun as well
  20. you can get him a 9mm glock or M&P to shoot at steel challenge matches, that can teach him the basics of drawing from a holster and trigger control and then if he enjoys it you can use the same gun for production.
  21. Agree with talking to MD, and about the no DQ for newbie/friend. My Uncle often likes to RO me during club matches and watches like a hawk for a DQ-able offense. Not because he is sadistic, but because if he misses it or lets it slide, it can become habit and bite me later on
  22. get a rule book so you can make a challenge with hard evidence, even the lowest clubs have to follow the rules if they want to stay accredited.
  23. IF you see something unsafe, don't let the lack of an RO card or the fact that they aren't on your squad stop you from fixing the issue, if you saw a guy walking around "popping" his holster would you not say something? we all want to have fun and the best way is for everyone to be safe
  24. DQ, rulebook says it in black and white
  25. So if i understand correctly, the shooter walked under the wall right? As far as I understand it, the "walls go up and down to infinity" calling is descriptive of shots fired, not movement. Could be wrong.
