  1. I found the p320 is pretty flexible and tunable. Lots of aftermarket parts. Can get 3-4 LB trigger pull with a kit. Slightly better with trigger job. Lots of grips, springs, and weight options. The P320 Legion is a pretty popular gun in Carry Optics for a reason. W/ manual safety it basically operates the same as 1911. I added the safety so it functions like my carry gun.
  2. Only Double Action, Double Action/Single Action, and Safe Action/Striker Fired handguns are allowed, and must be on the approved list. made the same transition. Carry the same gun. Ended up using the Sig P320 platform for CO. I added a manual safety and Its the closest I could find to the 1911.
  3. Hard to find someone accepting work right now. I spoke to Hugh at Deep River Custom and they are accepting work. He may be able to help.
  4. That's another positive reason not to wait. BTW - I have a great affordable semi-custom 2011 Limited gun in 40S&W listed in the classifieds
  5. I made the transition from SS to Limited for the same reason. I would say if you want to get the experience shooting Limited, go ahead and shoot minor until you can switch to limited major. No need to wait.
  6. I think there is a thread on this topic somewhere.
  7. Unfortunately I don’t think making those changes will boost the number of SS shooters in any meaningful way. I love SS and I plan to shoot it again in the future. Maybe if L10 dies that might help SS.
  8. Did the competitor ask the RO before or after he switched guns?
  9. Maybe it will work. Not sure. I don’t see a Thumb safety. Do you have an ejector for the frame?
  10. I don't think the Cheely pinned grip safety will work in the STI grip. The STI grip takes a standard 1911 beavertail grip safety. Best to check with Cheely or maybe someone here knows.
  11. I received the Ed Brown HD XR front sight which is 0.180" tall. The rear Fusion sight is 0.375" tall and the sight radius is 5.45" (officer slide). Laserborsigting has the POI = POA at 10 yards. At the range it shot 1 to 1.5" high at 10 yards with a reload that is similar to a factory defensive round (124 grain JHP at about 1100 fps). I don't have any other ammo right now. I know there are a lot of factors involved. For this setup, a combat hold would require a taller front sight (maybe 0.200). I hope this helps.
  12. Sorry, its a Fusion U Notch not the Heinie. Its on a Officer length slide. It has a 0.160" wide U notch and is 0.375" high. Best to check the combo if you can. I use a laser boresighter and use whatever I can to get the height I want to test in a front reference sight (old sight, different base sight, etc.). https://fusionfirearms.com/1911-u-notch-sight-selector I should get the Ed Brown HD sight any day. I'll laserbore the POI again and let you know what the results are.
  13. I'm doing a similar build for defense and maybe IDPA. I have the Heinie Ledge rear sight and tried a Dawson fiber front sight. I dry checked it with a laser boresight at 10 yrds. Its about 1/2 to 1 inch high which is just fine. I found the Dawson 0.040 fiber/.120 width too small for my liking. I ordered an Ed Brown HD outlined front sight which is .180 tall and .125" wide. Should be a good match since the Heinie has a blade width of 0.165. I hope this helps.
  14. Have a gunsmith cut a proper feed ramp. Either standard or supported. Could try a standard ramp first and see if it works (less expensive if it works). I think I've seen feed ramp services for supported barrels around $100 to $150.
  15. Maybe file it to knock off the loose SC and reshape if needed. Then apply thin coat of JB weld and reapply SC. I use JB weld and SC on my grips and it’s a great combination.
  16. Just had a similar experience. In my case, I had replaced the disconnector and the new one was getting caught on the trigger leaf spring (I'm using a Clark 4 leaf spring). I suppose it could also get caught on the a 3 leaf spring or something else. Anyway, the disconnector would not depress and allow the slide to go past. Something to check. Good luck.
  17. What do you mean by covering up? Have the ports welded closed?
  18. Maybe it was cut to accept a custom ramp attachment? Kinda like the breachface inserts?
  19. I’ve built two using CK Arms 2011 frames. To keep cost down, found a Para Tomasie slide on eBay. Used a caspian slide on the other. Don’t know what’s available these days. Looks like Shooters Connection has a good selection of Cheely frames and caspian slides. You might be able to buy a fitted kit but it will cost more. Brazos is another good option. Jem Guns is another option but I don’t know much about them. I have a 1911 frame on order so I will find out.
  20. Welcome back! Your timing is good. Note that the removal of App E equipment placement limitations is in the March21 change log not the rule book yet. But it was effective in March21.
  21. Well if that's true then maybe.
  22. No the breach face cuts are different sizes. Someone might make a conversion barrel (40S&W outside dimensions but shoots 9mm bullets)? Not sure.
  23. No matter what division you shoot, I'm learning that its really important to identify and prioritize what skills you really need to focus on. That can be difficult to self assess. Are you able to take a training class or do a focused session with a M or GM that is a good instructor? I'm finding that has been helpful for me.
  24. Ah, that makes sense! Now I understand. I'm still shooting dot focused but have tried target focused through the dot. Hard to do. I'll try this technique. Thanks
