  1. I run Chip McCormick Power Mags in mine. Good friend of mine runs the Wilson Combat 47D mags in his. Both are great mags. I like that the power mags are a little easier to take apart to clean.
  2. Check your trigger control. You can do this dry firing with an empty weapon at home. It works best if you have a camera and tripod you can set up behind you and to the left, and then again in front of you to the right. (assuming you are right handed) If it's not your trigger control, the video should help you diagnose the problem.
  3. I can't seem to find that one. Do you have a link?
  4. I guess I am lucky. The range I shoot local USPSA matches at is 9 minutes from my house. There are also 2 good indoor ranges within 5 minutes from me. I only go to the indoor ranges to sight in new or newly modified guns, and when it rains.
  5. I'll check those out Edit: Just checked them out. For that price I could get an EOTech for $100 more. Not worth it to me. Only reason I looked at the Sightmark was the price tag of $100. I am considering a sight that I could use until I can save up for the EOTech. I've been very happy with the Bushnell TR-25. 80$ and seems to be built extremely well for the price. I'll look into the Bushnell. Had one of there scopes on my old 30-06. I was happy with it to. BTW, thanks for all of the input guys
  6. I wouldn't buy the magnifier. It's a Carbine so long range shots aren't in it's future. With open sights I used to do head shots on targets at 500 meters with my issue M16A2.

  8. I do like having a forward assist in my rifle, but I think it's just cause that's what we had in the Marines. In my 8 years in the Corps, the only time I ever used the forward assist myself, or saw anyone else use it, was when we were using blanks and BFA's (blank firing adapters). Blanks and BFA's really gum up the works. But even then, if you just put a few drops of oil on the bolt through the ejection port, it would run again.
  9. So I was looking at a local gun store, and online at some red dots for an AR I am getting. I really like the EOTechs, and the Aimpoints, but don't want to spend that kind of cash right now. I'm already spending around $1,000 for the rifle, and then will be doing some mods to it after that. I do eventually want to get a higher end sight, but was looking at something to use in the mean time. Does anyone have any experience with the Sightmark line of red dots? My local gun shop had these and the salesman was talking them up a lot. They also had a 5x magnifier for the Ultra Shot. I was looking at these 2: http://www.opticsplanet.com/sightmark-ultra-shot-sight-qd-digital-switch-red-dot-sight.html http://www.opticsplanet.com/sightmark-tactical-red-dot-sight-sm13041.html Any first hand reviews, good or bad? Found a ton of videos on Youtube with people talking about them, but they all said they had just gotten them, or only used it for 100 or so rounds, and I wanted to know if it would last. It will be going on a carbine length AR, more than likely a direct impingement model. I want to use the rifle for some light 3 gun shooting but mostly as a SD and bug out gun.
  10. Most I have seen shoot either a Glock or S&W M&P, both in 9mm. But I met one last Friday that was shooting a single stack 1911 .45.
  11. That's friggin Awesome. My Wife has been in remission for about a month now. She just got her last chemo treatment and still has to do a few weeks of radiation to make sure it doesn't come back. Sounds like it's time for you guys to have a party.
  12. I had an RO get in my way before. I had a different plan for the stage than anyone who came before me. He thought I didn't see a target and didn't say anything, but when I got to the position I planned to shoot from, he was in my way. I spotted him, yelled for him to get out of the way, and stopped shooting. He apologized for being in the way, and not paying enough attention. I was able to reshoot, with a different RO. He didn't do anything intentionally, he just didn't know my plan, and it was a large stage with some odd angles. He had set up the stage, and didn't realize you could see the target I was going to shoot from were I was. I was engaging from around 1/2 the range everyone else did.
  13. Another option is to find a place near you that sells reloads. There is a guy near me that sells reloads specifically for competition shooters. He costs a little more than if I did it myself, but there is no investment of time or money for equipment from me. He charges $14 for 50 .45ACP with brass trade, or $16 without. Cheap off the shelf .45ACP is $21 for 50 rnds. I usually don't trade in brass, but it save me $5 a box. And he will load to suit what I want. 9mm and .40S&W are cheaper, since they are cheaper to produce, and the prices go down a little if you buy in bulk. Go to a good local gun store and ask them were you can get reloads. That's how I found the guy near me. I plan to eventually start reloading my own ammo once I can get all the equipment and learn how to do it, but I'm not sure how long that will take me to do.
  14. Haven't done any big matches yet, just local club stuff so far. But I tend to do fairly well since I get good hits. Some of the guys are faster, but my hits make up for being slow. Had a stage last weekend that I figured I did horrible on due to malfunctions making me take to way long. Expected to come in last on the stage. Came in right in the middle due to how many A's I hit. I know more speed will come as I do this more, and get things figured out.
  15. Your Remington is a 1911 clone, so yes they would fit. As far as which one, I'll leave that to someone else to answer, as I don't use one. Carried my personal 1911 in the Marines, and trained with it enough there that I don't feel I need one.
  16. Depends on the magwell. Wilson has one that bolts on with your grips. Some are attached to the main spring housing. And others attach independently. So it depends on which ones you get.
  17. Trigger job depending on the quality of your 1911. Fibur Optic front sight. Magwell if you want it. I don't use one on mine, but a lot of guys do.
  18. Recoil spring or 2. had mine break on me tonight on my 3rd round into my 1st stage. Was failing to feed. That stage was over for me, but I was able to swap it out quickly and they let me re shoot the stage since it was a little slow that night.
  19. Did while I was shooting my first stage today of out of 3. I bought my 1911 used a few months ago, I have approx 350 rounds through it. Was looking around at parts online last week to see what I want to do with her. Saw the recoil springs, and figured I should go ahead and order one just in case, who knows what the last owner did with it, or how well he took care of it. My spring arrived in the mail as I was leaving to go shoot, so I put it in my range bag and left. Got 3 rounds into my 1st string and started getting failure to feeds. Slide would come back, push the round partially into the chamber, and then I had to push it the rest of the way by hitting the back of the slide with my hand. Did this 4 times in a row, and I stopped, called the stage over and showed clear. Went to the safe table and took it apart. The recoil spring had broken towards the front, and the Wilson Shock buff was all mangled. Thankfully I had my new one with me, switched it out and kept shooting the rest of the night without a single other issue. I will say to the credit of the guys at the club, when I came back and mentioned the my spring had broken, 4 or 5 guys offered me one if I didn't have one. This was only my 3rd time shooting with them to. So great bunch of guys at my club.
  20. On my current 1911, I ended up switching to all Chip McCormick mags from Wilson's. The Wilson's were the ones that I had lock up issues with. When I switched recoil springs, the wilson's worked, but I still don't use them.
  21. I had the same issue with my 1911. I changed the recoil spring out for a 14# and it solved the issue for me. The guy I bought mine from had put an extra power 20# recoil spring in it. The way it was explained to me, is that the slide wasn't staying back long enough for the catch to engage. I'm now going to start experimenting with some lighter springs in mine.
  22. Did not now that, thanks for that info. Getting ready to take mine to the Smith tomorrow to have him measure and check everything out so I can know which size Dawson sights to get myself.
  23. Well, obviously the are not blowing up the guys gun that is shooting them routinely. Why is it a risk at all? As far as the pennies, yeah every penny is important to me. I watch my pennies and that way I don't have to worry about my dollars. I shoot Production in 9mm. My gun has a factory spec firing chamber which means that it is capable of withstanding a certain industry standard chamber pressure when the cartridge is fired. Factory loaded 9mm just barely make MINOR power factor of 125. Some open guns are chambered in 9mm as well but they have been designed to withstand considerably higher chamber pressures so that cartridges can be loaded hot enough to make MAJOR power factor of 165. That means that a 9mm major round is 33% hotter than a minor round. The SAMMI spec for a standard 9mm (minor) round states that it should produce roughly 36,000 PSI of chamber pressure in a firing chamber that is rated at 40,000 PSI. Sooooooo, if you load a 9mm major round in a factory spec gun you are going to produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 45,000+ PSI in the firing chamber. Do you begin to see the problem this can cause? Blown up firing chamber equals shrapnel in very close proximity to many body parts you hold near and dear. Just so you know, 9mm+P loads are only 10% hotter than standard loads and produce an average 39,700 PSI chamber pressure. This^^^^^. One of the guys at my club has an open gun that shoots 9mm major. I was asking him about the difference. He said that his rounds could cause a regular 9mm pistol to blow up. He let me shoot his pistol with factory ammo, and then with his reloads for major PF. It felt like I was shooting a different gun. There is a video on youtube of a guy having his gun blow up on him while shooting due to to high of chamber pressure.
  24. My PT1911 has Novak cuts from the factory. The newer ones do.
