  1. Try here: http://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=SIGHTS+FRONT%3ATaurus+Front+Sights:Taurus+Fiber+Optic+Inserted+Front+Sights They have sights that are different heights. Someone else on here recommended them to me. I'm going to take mine to a smith to have him measure my sights so I can know which ones to get
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. I'll check those places out
  3. I found this velcro inner and outer velcro belt on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/261085600415?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 It's the only one like it I can find and it's from a Hong Kong based seller. I know it will come from there anyways. but I won't buy from a non US seller. Were can I find one like this in the US? I have seen guys at matches wear them, but didn't ask were they got them.
  4. When I got mine it had a new hammer and springs already. Not sure why they didn't change the trigger to, other than maybe they were trying to do it on a budget.
  5. I had to untrain myself a little when I first started. In the marines, when in a stack entering a building, they want you to have your weapon aimed down so that you aren't aimed at the guy ahead of you. Big no no in competition. Luckily I caught myself doing it and stopped myself. RO said he was watching me and was about to DQ me. But he saw that I stopped, corrected myself, and then took a second to regroup. After the stage we had a nice long talk about what I needed to watch out for. RO was a great guy and took the extra time to address some of the differences in what they expect you to do, as opposed to the military training. Ended up doing a ton of dry walk through's between then and my next time going.
  6. I will look into the Dawson sights. Only ones I had looked at so far and the Novaks, since that's what on there now. Hadn't thought about the ambi safety, never really use the other side anyways. The 3 things I have listed to get done, I can get done for a little sweat and time. I was talking to a fried that is a gunsmith, and he needs a wall built in his shop. I am a former contractor, so I offered to build the wall in exchange for the work I want done. It'll take me a weekend to build, and a lot of that time is waiting for drywall mud and paint to dry. He is either going to pay me some on top, or he offered to do some more work on my 1911 for me so we can be even on costs. he is paying for the materials cost for the wall also.
  7. Have been reading over several threads about springs, and shok buffs. One thing I did not see mentioned, was dose it have any effect on spring strength? It does take up some space that the spring would have to compress. So it kinda makes sense that it may have some effect. So what effect, if any, does the shok buff have on the spring strength? Mainly asking because I am going to get some different springs to see what works best in mine.
  8. Ok, I have a Tuarus PT1911 that I plan to use for USPSA shooting. I have used it for 2 local practice events already. It has had a little work done to it already. The guy I bought it from had a trigger job done, but it looks like they kept the original trigger in there. I know the hammer has been changed. It also has a Wilson Combat 2 piece FLGR. I am going to start experimenting with different recoil spring weights. I do want to have a little work done to it. Here's what I know I want to do: 1. Replace the stock trigger since it has some slop. 2. Get a match bushing installed. 3. Get a fibur optic front sight installed. My questions are: 1. How good is the stock barrel on the PT1911? It is good or should it be replaced? 2. Is there anything else I should do to it? I'll be using it for USPSA Single Stack shooting. I know I want the trigger and fibur sight after using another club members 1911 that had this done to it. The match bushing I have had on my other 1911's. The one that came with it is better than some stock bushings, but not as good as the ones I have had done in the past. I haven't had any issues with it reliability wise. I also don't want to dump tons of money into it either.
  9. I know of a couple of Snipers who have used them. Generally when entering a building and carrying a large rifle like the .50. You are right that it's an oh sh!t weapon. In that case, I'd much rather have a .45.
  10. I pick mine up after a stage, but just keep it separate from the rest of my ammo. I won't use it for the match. I'll wait till I get home and can make sure it's one of mine, and that it's not damaged in any way from being stepped on or something. Then I'll clean it up and reuse it next time.
  11. It's about time we switched back to the .45ACP. I carried a 9mm M9 for a while in the Corps. I was a machine gunner and didn't carry a rifle. Hated it, just not enough power. 9mm is great here were you can use good ammo, but with ball ammo, the .45 wins big time. I ended up buying my own 1911 to carry.
