  1. If he is shooting low already, a taller front sight would make him shoot even lower.
  2. Are you using the Open Glock for IPSC as well or just steel? Taylor also makes the +5 brass extensions, but I would use the +8's. They would be good for steel shoots though if you don't need the added capacity.
  3. Sounds like your sight hieght is off. Front sight may be to tall for your rear. Same thing happened to me when I bought my new sights. It shot way low. When shooting at a plate rack I was aiming at the top of the plates, and was hitting the rack itself just below the plates. I bought mine as a set to. Ended up switching to an adjestable rear and shorter front sight. Now she spot on.
  4. I just picked up a Ghost holster last week to. I got it used really cheap, but I really do like it. The more I think about it, and the more Open gun I check out, the more I want the SJC mount with the Slideride.
  5. I thought the SJC racker looked a bit large myself, I was gonna get the Carver one.
  6. Very nice. That's about the way I want to do mine, except I was considering the 90 degree mount for the optic. That long comp makes that gun look huge.
  7. Thanks. Good to hear from someone that has both. Only reason I was thinking about the STS is that I would not need any permanent mods to the frame. But I do like the larger optic of the full size at the same time. I'll go with the 90degree mount then.
  8. The particular one I'm getting was built by Bobby himself KKM barrel with sjc 11 port comp, his trigger, sjc mount and magwell, cmore, his stippling job, extended mag drop, and sjc slide racker. I think other than the things he does (his ejector etc) that's about it That's basicly along the lines I was looking at, except I already have some of that stuff. I have a Zev Heavy Magwell, extended mag release, and trigger. I'd like to see pics of that once you do get it.
  9. I wanting to build a Carver Open Glock this year myself. What are the specs of the one you are getting? I'm still in the planing stage of mine.
  10. I have decided to build an Open Glock this year. I am wondering which optic and mount people are using. I am looking at either a sideways Mounted CMore Slideride or a Carver STS mount with CMore STS mini dot. I like the fact that you don't need to worry about ejection issues using either of those options since they aren't in the way. 11. Either a Glock 17 or 22. Not sure which yet. I have a Glock 22 now, but would like to buy another Glock and build it up. That way I have a Limted Glock and an Open Glock. Depends on what the Wife lets me do. May end up building up what I have. I think she may want the 17 for herself to shoot in Production.
  12. I see that Carver is fairly local to me. I'm in Tampa and he's in Jacksonville. So if I do go the slide mount route, I think I'll use his stuff and have him do the install.
  13. That was kinda what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. The only open gun I have fired as of yet was a 2011 which had a frame mounted dot. Really liked it, but don't want to spend that kind of money right now. Let me rephrase that, my Wife doesn't want me spending that kind of cash right now. I really don't have much left to do to mine to make it an open gun. Really just missing the optic and comp. Of course would need a new barrel for the comp. Everything else I would want to do to it has been done already.
  14. I have been contemplating building an open glock gun. I have seen a couple of different mounting options, and not sure which would be best. I have seen them mounted on the slide near were the rear sight would be, wether with slide cuts, or a mount that attaches to the rear sight dove tail. And I have seen the ones with the frame mounted dots. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each mounting option? Which is best and why? Also, which ever mounting option you like, what mount would you recommend? Build is at least 6 months out, so I am now just deciding what route to go, and doing my research on it. One of the guys at my local range has an open Glock with a frame mounted sight. I am going to ask if I can try it out next time we shoot together. He's the only person I know that uses an open Glock.
  15. Yes they do fit. I have a light / laser on mine from my AR that was designed for a picatinny rail.
  16. By Standard Division do you mean Limited?
  17. Don't want aluminum, how about Delrin: http://www.glockworx.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=353060&CAT=3693 Or Brass: http://shop.taylorfreelance.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=8&zenid=87af8280416a4d300034acfc1fff9895
  18. That right there puts it in perfect perspective for you.
  19. Picked one up and installed it. It did make a noticable difference in the trigger. Glad I got it. Kidna finished off everything else I had done to the trigger. I had already done the .25cent trigger job with 3.5lb ghost connector, 6lb trigger spring, titanium firing pin safety and light firing pin safety spring.
  20. Just go watch 3gun nation on VS. They show some of the top shooters in the game. You mostly see those guys using 2011's, but you will also see a mix of XDM's, M&P's, & Glock's. If those guys can be competitive with them, so can you.
  21. When I started shooting Limited using a Glock 22, I had a couple of guys say I needed a 2011 to be competitive. But some people can really be gun snobs. My original intention was to shoot the Glock for now, since it's 1/5 of the price of a decent 2011 setup and that's what I could afford at the time. And then I would latr build a 2011 once I could save some more cash up. I have been able to borrow a 2011 for a match and try it out. I did like it, but I kinda like being the "underdog" so to speak. Some of these guys have $3,000 to $4,000 in a 2011, my Glock 22 is sitting at about $700. $900 is you add in th emags, but I have 12 mags. One of the best Limted shooters I have seen used a Glock 35. Use what you like, don't worry about what everyone else says.
  22. Single stack is were I started shooting. I also have several 8rnd and 10rnd mags at the time. It does force you to work on your fundamentals and learn how to game the stage. I shot SS for the 1st 5 months, and then switched to Limited Major with a Glock 22. We only have 2 guys at my local club that shoot L10, and both use 1911's. I still will shoot my 1911 every once in a while, just to switch things up. At my local club, there are usually more people shooting SS than any other division.
  23. I never shot production, went from Single Stack to Limeted. When I shot Single Stack, I would barney a round with the back mag, and then I carried a mag in a cargo pocket. I was carrying 6 mags on the belt and the 1 in the pocket then. I still barney up with the back mag even in Limited. But now I use the mag in my 1st position as my 1st mag. Between my 4 mags, I have 80 rounds on me at any time. If I need more than that in a stage, I may as well just give up that stage.
  24. You do need to be careful about lowering the gun like that. It's better to bring the gun straight back to your chest. If you get into the habit of lowering it, and have to move around a barrier that is close, you can sweep your feet without realizing it. I have seen a lot of new guys do that, and if they don't change it, they get DQed for it.
