  1. I do not reload yet, but plan to start soon. That's one of the reasons I don't want to buy a 34 or 35, is so I can save the cash to get a press and gear. I am using reloads in my gun though. There is a local business that does reloading for local matches. I buy my reloads from him. His prices are hard to beat, but in times like now when stuff is hard to get, it would be nice to have my own stockpile of ammo parts.
  2. My grip is about as high as I can get without having the slide hit it during recoil. Using a 1911 with an extended slide release for years, it's not an issue for me.
  3. Not an issue for me. I bought a Glock only after finding out I could use the extended release. I hated the stock release.
  4. I started shooting USPSA with a Single Stack 1911. Wanted to branch out and try other Divisions, so I picked up a Glock 22 intending to use it in Production. Showed up, but didn't have many mags with me since I bought it the day before using it. 1 of the guys I normally shoot with uses a Glock 35, and has tons of mags so I figured I could borrow 1 or 2, but he was out sick that day. 1 of the stages had a high round count, and I would have been a couple rounds short. So I topped my mags off and had the RO bump me to Limited. Really enjoyed shooting it in Limited. I want to build this gun up for shooting Limited only. Have done a few mods to it so far. I added an extended mag release, extended slide release, replaced the springs except for the striker, polished the trigger components, and added a uncaptured guide rod with 15lb spring. I also picked up some Arredondo +5 mag extensions. Luckily I picked up several spare mags before the current craziness started. So I am wanting to do a budget build with it. With everything else going on right now, I just can't dump tons of cash into it. I am trying to figure out what else to do to her for now. And I will probably end up doing one thing at a time. My thoughts so far are (not necessarily in this order): 1. Magwell 2. New sights (currently have stock sights) 3. Maybe a new barrel (not sure on this one) Not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?
  5. Everyone is worried about there not being a Grandfather clause, like there was in the last ban. Don't forget that the Republicans have control of the house. No bill like this goes through without there support. A ban may go through, but it will have a Grandfather clause. It may be time to start buying up high cap kmags so you can have spares. I know I am
  6. Camera on the iPhone is good, photo editing apps for the iPhone are top notch. cameras on the Samsung phones are better than the iPhones, but the photo editing apps aren't as good. At the same time, my Samsung phone takes such great pics that I never use the editing software for anything other than cropping a pic.
  7. Most of the guys I shoot with use a .40 in Limited for Major. But there are a couple of guys that use a 9. Sometimes they have a good advantage due to the few extra rounds they can get in the mags. (23 vs 20)
  8. I was just talking about this with some shooters this past Friday at a local shoot. We had 4 targets at the end of a stage that were fairly close, within 6 meters. I was one of the 1st shooters on that stage, and they were commenting on how fast I double tapped each target, and still got good hits. At that range I actually catch myself looking at the target and shooting by instinct. I am still getting Alpha's. I trained in the Military to point shoot at that range, and we spent a lot of time training to do it with a rifle and a pistol. I can do it well, but some of the guys tried it and didn't do as well. Shots were faster for them, but the hits weren't as good, mostly the 2nd shoot. All shots were on target for them, but they were Delta's. One of the guys discovered he could do it well too. It really depends on the person, and the training they have. If you spend the time to learn it, you can do it without even seeing your sights. But most people will still do better if they take the time to get a good sight picture. Anything past 6 or 7 meters and I will always get a good sight picture before shooting.
  9. It does shoot fairly well. And for 3gun it should be just fine. I am mainly thinking about going with a heavy barrel so I can do some long range competitions with it also. I do plan to buy a railed forend, but it'll be one of the ones were you can add rails only were you need them, and the rest will be slick. Don't need to add much to it, just a light and a foregrip.
  10. After some thinking, and reading some of the reviews I have been able to find (they were hard to find), I have decided to hold off for a while before free floating the barrel, and buying a heavy match barrel. I'm just going to get a MagPul MOE handguard for now. Then I will start to save up the cash to get a better barrel and rail system. May as well do it right the first time.
  11. My Wife picked me up a Bushmaster XM15 20" really cheap for Christmas.m I am planning to do some mods to it in January. I don't technically get it till Christmas. For now I am just gathering the parts I want to swap out. For now I have a MagPul CTR stock, MagPul ASAP sling attachment point, MagPul MS2 sling, MagPul MBUS sights, MagPul MIAD grip, and several PMags. When I get paid again I am ordering a YHM Free Float rail system, lo profile gas block, and a Miculek Comp. I was looking at Brownells.com and I saw the Red X Arms barrel. These are the ones I was looking at: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrels/ar15-m16-stainless-steel-barrels-prod55015.aspx?avs|Make_3=AR-15/M4 I have done the normal Google Searches on them and have found little into on them. But the little I am finding is pretty good. Anyone here have any experience with there barrels? I would definitely get a 20" barrel. Figured of they are decent barrels, it may be worth the purchase at that price. $130 for HBAR contour and $154 for HBAR Fluted contour. Or is there another good heavy barrel out there for close to the same price? Wouldn't mind spending $200ish. Much more than that and I don't think it would be worth it right now. It would have to be chambered in either 5.56 or 223 Wylde so that I can use both 5.56 NATO and 223 Rem. This way in a SHTF situation, I could use either. Little background: I will be using the rifle for 3gun, but also for hunting, general shooting, and SHTF situations. Don't really mind weight, carried M60E3's, M240G's, M40A1's and even the M82A1 as a Marine. Standard M16A2' always felt super light to me and almost like a toy. Adding a lb or to isn't going to hurt me. Might even do some long range competitions with it. That's what got me thinking about heavy barrels.
  12. Had the same experience at my 1st 2 gun match. (didn't have my rifle yet) I went and didn't really have a way to reload other than side saddles. One guy leant me a forearm bandoleer, and another leant me 2 shell caddies. I have since purchased my own gear, and now I carry extras in case anyone needs something, or a friend decides to come with and shoot. One thing that was nice was being able to try the gear before I bought it. Was able to try the 4 shell, and 6 shell caddies, and a guy let me use his load 2 belt for a couple of stages. I ended up with the 6 shell caddies. With the way the matches are set up at my club, the 6 shell caddies just worked out better for me. 1st time I shot USPSA pistol I was the same way, I had spare mags in my pockets.
  13. If I am the one buying, the only reason I change my offer price is if the item isn't as discribed. I will take money off the asking price for replacement parts.
  14. I might try the thumb screws before I get a new holster. I like the one I have now and it would be nice to use the some one for both.
  15. I do have the wrap around velcro closure for the end of the belt. I also use several Safariland velcro belt keepers to hold everything in place. Did not think about a retention holster for the pistol. I currently use an Uncle Mike's Kydex holster. What kind of holsters are most guys using for 3 gun? Something like this? http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/2-BH410503BK-R
  16. I have been looking a lot at the load 2 and load 4 systems. I am leaning towards this one now: http://www.carbonarms.us/TWinS-Shotgun-Loading-Systems/SSL-2-shell-assembly.html I can cant them at high angles and mount several close to each other and have it in a load 2 configuration, or I can have them offset and canted less so each one is a double load 4 system. I can mount them on my vest or a Molle chest rig, or they have the belt mount versions. To many choices to make a good decision right now. Really gotta try these out
  17. I am a Former Marine, and am used to using a tac vest. I do have shot shell holders for the vest, but will want to buy better ones eventually. I think the shot shell holders are the main item that I am not sure what I want to get in the long run. I have plenty of mag pouches for my pistol on my belt, and would use that with the vest. I know I need to work on reloads for the shotgun, I have snap caps coming so I can practice that, and experiment with different placements for the carriers. I also have a 9 round forearm shell carrier that I picked up for an action shotgun shoot previously. With my shotgun being inertia driven (Stoeger M2000) I have been told that I can't add to much weight to the gun in the form of side saddles or stock saddles as it will mess up the timing, so I have to find a new way to hold the rounds. I have a 6 rnd side saddle and 5 rnd stock saddle on my Mossberg 500. Couple of the guys I shoot local pistol matches with say they do have some extra gear, and that as I figure out what I may want, they can let me borrow some stuff to try out. They don't have enough that I could use it exclusively, but they have an extra shell caddy, etc. that I can use in conjunction with the vest and see what I like before I spend the cash on a full new setup.
  18. I am currently shooting USPSA/IPSC pistol matches, and have my pistol belt set up the way I like it. CR Speed belt, nice holster, and several pistol mag pouches. I am trading my Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader for a Stoeger M2000 with 9 shot mag tube extension on it this weekend. And my AR is in the process of being built, should have then in a few weeks, but it being a Christmas gift from the Wife, I won't get that till Christmas. I really want to get into shooting 3 gun matches once I have all 3 guns. I have been looking at different 3 gun set ups from belts to chest rigs to combinations of both, and I'm really not sure which I want to use. Don't want to go out and buy one set up, only to decide later that I don't like it, and then have to go out and buy another set up. I already have a MarCIRAS plate carrier, with tons of AR mag pouches & pistol mag pouches. I also have some MOLLE shot shell pouches I could put on it. I would have to move things around to make it easier to use, since I won't need so many mag pouches, and would want the shot shells easier to get to. I would also take out the soft armor and plates to make it lighter. This probably would not be my permanent set up, as I'm sure rigs made specifically for 3 gun would be better in the long run. But it would give me the time to figure out what I do like, and then save up the cash to get things if I decide to go with something that costs more. And I also already have the vest and pouches, so as soon as I get the guns I could shoot the next local match that comes up. Doing some research online, I can find references to chest rigs, and of course belts being allowed, but I can't find anything that says whether or not you are allowed to use a plate carrier in 3 gun. I know there are some rules hounds on here, anyone know the answer?
  19. Any Visionworks or EyeGlassWorld could do it. Got mine last year. I have 2 pair of wrap around glasses now. 1 is yellow, and the other are tinted sunglasses.
  20. I'm gonna pull the trigger on this and pic it up. Can't find anything even close to the quality in that price range. Most of the other decent AR's I can find around here are at least $1000.
  21. Nice looking rifle, is that an ambidextrous mag release on the L side? Tar Yes there is an Ambi mag release. Kinda liked that. It's also got nice furniture, and the price is good. Found one new for $850. Comes with 1 MagPul PMag, and a really nice Sig Sauer soft case. I also like the built in QD sling attachment points on the lower receiver that one of the other guys mentioned.
  22. Been looking at a Sig Sauer M400 enhanced at the local shop, and it's a good price. Was wondering if anyone had any opinions on it. I have heard a lot of great things about the Sig's, but not much about the M400. Here's a link to it: http://sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/m400-enhanced-od-green.aspx Before someone says it, I do not want to build one from the ground up. Don't see a need to. Milspec AR's are plenty accurate enough for me. This will be a general purpose gun, I may use it in local 3 gun competitions, but nothing serious. I will be getting another upper in 6.8 or 300 blackout and using it for hunting as well. I prefer a DI gun over a piston gun because it's what I trained with and used in the Marines. It's also tried and true. Won't be doing much modding to it either. I'll add a forward grip, light, and an optic. So what are the opinions of this M400, good or bad?
  23. This is something I do, but it's a hold over from the Marines. You always checked clear yourself, and then showed clear to the RSO's. Did it that way for so many years that it's just habit now. All of the military shooters I know that do USPSA or IDPA do it that way.
  24. Looked at several of the ones you guys recommended today at a larger local gun store. I have decided to just wait till I save up the cash and get either an Aimpoint or an Eotech. Price for a decent "clone" was just to much to justify spending, and then spending more later to get the real deal. SO I am just gonna wait for the nicer optic later and use the iron sites for now. Irons are what I trained with in the Marines anyways. Friend of mine has both with magnifiers on his AR's so he's gonna let me try out both and see which I like. Thanks for all the input.
