  1. I like the look and feel of a long heavy open gun. Mine is built on a 6" wide heavy frame with 5" unique slide. Quick notes about weight - believe my open gun weighs 52+ ounces, some as light as 39 - loaded big stick weighs about a pound, so during a long course the gun weight changes 12-15 ounces. Really only a couple things matter - The GUN MUST RUN, then it needs to feel right to YOU, so YOU will have complete confidence in it. Sherwyn
  2. 43 oz max -- STI website lists Rangemaster at 41.2 oz
  3. STI Rangemaster - factory full length dust cover. Believe in one of the earlier rule versions, it included a statement that full length dust covers were not allowed - but the line has been removed? Removal of the statement would seem to indicate that it is now legal...so? Sherwyn
  4. Let me add a little twist. I use mixed headstamp for practice and sorted for match ammo. Load on a 1050, only adjust swage to operate when using crimped brass and have had very good luck. I did purchase some sorted once fired, roll sized brass, 4 blown cases and a couple failure to eject issues. No problem with same brand in once fired, but roll sized had issues. I will sort for my match ammo, and there are a few headstamps that I will throw out. I won't be using roll sized again, but other than that, have had less brass issues than when shooting super. 5. My first 2 cars 69 Mustang nice ride but traded it for... 71 Charger 500 - (B52 theory proof - with a big enough motor anything can fly). It had to go since I could not afford the tires...or the tickets.
  6. Mine does the same thing. I've checked mine with weighs and it is correct as long as you take the first reading it settles on. Leave it there and it will change every time, even if you are not doing anything around it. Make sure if you do leave something on it, that you re-zero before another weight. Sherwyn
  7. If you are getting short battery life, my guess is your module is getting weak. When they start to age, it takes more battery, to get the same brightness. Also seems I start to see a dark spot in the middle of the dot. Sherwyn
  8. You just need to add some weight for better traction and stability. Sherwyn
  9. Easy for you to say...on a well designed course I will agree with you...and I'm a fat old fart.
  10. The picture of stage ten shows lights on the targets - I hope that was just for the picture, because they sure were not on when we shot it. Great match and stage design. I shot Saturday so am looking for results as well - any information anyone? Sherwyn
  11. Was listening to a program run through the top news stories of 1975. They listed a large group of scientists and leaders that wanted everyone to be aware...(insert all the stuff you are hearing now)...of the world threat of "Global cooling". Sherwyn
  12. I've used a few HAP bullets over the last years. Have used boxes marked .355 and .356, sometimes from the same order. I have miked them from both and all mine have always been .356. Put them in super barrels cut for .356 and now using them in 9mm Major with barrels cut for .355, no problems with either. My supply should make it through this year, but looks like the Hornady price increases being higher than others will make me look at something else. Sherwyn
  13. I don't like to see cables attached directly to poppers. If you add a pivot arm on the frame next to the popper, it can be tripped by the falling popper - distance from popper pivot to arm pivot can make a big difference in activation time. Also have seen poppers dropping onto a pressure plate, but if pressure plate has a wood top it catches a lot of splatter. Had planned to add a spring setup like in the pressure plates on the side of a forward falling, but never got it done. Sherwyn
  14. Yes it was a pleasure talking to you. A successful match...I met another good guy. Sherwyn
  15. Made it back home from the Nationals. Had more than my share of brain fade issues...will forget or laugh about them. The competitor not up to our standards, well that is forgiven...might not be forgotten when a purchase comes around. Anyway thanks to all for reminding me that incidents like this are indeed rare...I should have assumed they were just having a bad day... It is all the great people that keep me playing this game. And every match is just a chance to meet more. Sherwyn .
  16. We are shooting the Nationals. We are surrounded by the greatest people in the world. Surrounded by the best of the best, great match, great staff, great range and scenery. Maybe I shouldn't even let this bother me but I need to vent, purge this before I go back to shooting this afternoon. Parking is a little limited but the staff are doing a great job of working with it and it was really not any kind of issue. We were blocked in our parking space by an SUV. With a little help we were able to locate the sponsored shooters driving it in about 10 minutes. They indicated that they were about ready to shoot so I told them no big deal we would be waiting by the vehicle as soon as they could come and move it. Maybe all the time spent with the great people in our sport has allowed me to expect more but we didn't expect to wait another 35+ minutes for them to come and then not even acknowledge that we were waiting or even an apology. Luckily we weren't on our way to another stage because we were finished for the day but it did cost us an hour delay. Contrast this with another competitor who blocked in the pickup next to us. He was driving a Porsche and openly left the keys on the dash in case it needed to be moved. In addition, he was watching and when he noticed us waiting, came over to make sure it wasn't him blocking us in. It is this competitor that I choose to remember and associate with our sport. Again, the great competitor, staff, etc that I have experienced in the past have allowed me to expect a different standard in our environment. Yes, I do expect more from a sponsored shooter!!! Yes I feel better now. Sherwyn

    My Dad

Paul and Buddy you and your families are in my thoughts and prayers. It has been almost 26 years since I lost my dad - electrocuted by a simple power drill. 24 at the time, I was just starting to figure out how great a guy he was. The last couple years I have been blessed with my son (grandpa died when he was 1, so never knew him) joining me in my shooting journeys. Many times it brings thoughts of the conversations I never got a chance to have with my dad. So whichever you happen to be at the time...father or son...be there, enjoy it all. Sherwyn
  19. It's a longshot, but check the edges of the recoil guide head (probably a better name for it). If it can twist slightly, some are high enough to make contact with the bottom edge of the slide rail. Side of the head will have wear marks if it is making contact. Have also seen the slide stop move over just enough to lock up the slide, but not actually come out. This one is easier to find - if a little side pressure on it releases the slide. Good luck, Sherwyn
  20. If it was "partially" through hard cover, then it's a scoring hit. Now edge hits on steel hard cover, that's probably the only time I would be looking for even a partial grease ring. Sherwyn
  21. As usual a great match, with normal Iowa weather thrown in. Thanks to the whole crew for all your work. Thanks for standing (or trying to) in the mud and rain. Thanks 4th Father / son - Griffith from Nebraska Sherwyn
  22. Round count can be a deciding factor, but if stages are truely freestyle, not set up to control the shooter, with multiple options, that is the biggest thing for me. With gas pricing going higher, lower stage count will make a drive less attractive as well. Sherwyn In most cases - "Have gun, will travel"
  23. Don't file on the followers - then you will have problems. I have several mags that are the same way, thought I had to fix it and turned the mags into rattles. Cost me a couple followers, put new ones back in, still loose but run 100%. Sherwyn
