  1. Military cases can be a pain - with my 1050 they have caused a few popped primers and even get a few of these... Sherwyn
  2. When you were younger...you would have remembered to turn the lights off... Happy birthday. See you at the Sunflower Classic, Sherwyn
  3. I am really sick of winter. Lots of white crap flying around outside, most everything shut down with snowplows pulled off the roads until the wind calms down. I've got a lot of trees around my place, so the included picture of my backyard really doesn't show the whiteout that's on the highways right now. So please somebody tell me that it will be 70 degrees when we get to the DT match... Sure would like to get some trigger time in before the match...BUT...did I mention I HATE winter. Sherwyn I'm sure in a couple months I might remember why I live in Iowa
  4. Believe there will be some shooters from Iowa and Minnesota there - ask them what shooing in real cold is like. You'll know who they are...with that weather they will be wearing shorts and t-shirts. Weatherman says it might get above freezing this weekend...it also said -15 on my way to work this morning. Sherwyn Only 35 days till spring
  5. Not sure how much difference it really makes - when you consider that a loaded big stick weighs around a pound. So the weight of your gun may change that much just during a course. I do like mine heavy with the weight out front. STI 6" heavy frame, full profile slide, 9 Major weighing in at 55 ounces. Sherwyn
  6. Used for both 121 HAP and 121 MG FP 8.6 grs HS6 OAL 1.160 Winchester SR primers Lee undersize die Used in 2 guns, both with no barrel ports, 4 port comp - Avg 1400 in one 1440 in the other. Sherwyn
  7. Been there, done that... Weatherman says it might make it up to 20 by Saturday - he said -17 on my way to work this morning, warming tonight, only down to -13. Hard to make improvements when it takes till mid-summer just to get back to where you were last season. There should be a special category for anyone that live where the weatherman starts with the windchill 4 months out of the year. Sherwyn Always have and always will hate midwest winters.
  8. I checked last night, called direct and they said they were full.
  9. Anybody else notice everyone sweeping thier arm getting out of the vehicle? Legal or not in IRC?
  10. There are only a limited number of answers to the equation - all of them have the same symbol which just cycles each time you try it...
  11. Now I'm confused... 2005 points series counted 5 matches - Nationals, 1 Area, 2 sectionals, 1 other. The only change listed in BOD minutes is the Nationals being dropped. That would make the 2006 series count 4 matches, but the current results show up to 8. Checking all divisions shows only 4 people with 8 matches counted. Then if you read the 2006 policy, "Points from the highest finish..." which would indicate only 3 matches counted. Yes the series is broken (need more proof than the fact that I was leading open?). A true National series would have very few competitors - would need to include at least 5 Area matches as well as the Nationals. Only way that might work would be on top of a series that happens independently in each area. Just my thought that it might work at that level. Sherwyn
  12. Would like to lighten the duties of our small club officer. So have several questions about how Palm scoring might be used at club match with 2 squads shooting. Can anyone using these give me an idea of startup costs? Would the units available from Double-Alpha work for 2 squads, and be able to combine results for a match? Are the results in format that are ready for upload to USPSA? How long does it take to set up a five stage match on the Palm? If only one was used, would it show match results, or is an onsight computer always needed? TIA Sherwyn
  13. Actually I found the little boxster to be one of the most comfortable two seaters for me, most were not even an option. Vette is an awesome car, but I can sit more comfortable in the boxster. Mine is stock at 230hp, not a tire burner, but sure made some unhappy Vette owners at the local autocross. Sherwyn 6'4" and no I can't weigh on a 250 pound scale
  14. When i take the slide off and barrel out and put a round in there it stays put. Make sure you are not putting the test round too high when you check this. Use the barrel to position the round on the extractor. I'm not confident in my gun until the last empty ejects consistent with the rest. Sherwyn
  15. +1. I've been battling this same problem for the past few months and it's quite annoying. Hopefully someone can help. Check out the 650 tips and tricks thread under reloading FAQ- put flex tube to a jug under my bench and problem gone.
  16. Great match, very interesting courses. Not sure how you could improve it for next year...but I will be back to find out. Everybody had a good time - except maybe the RO's that got stuck shooting in the rain the day before. Thanks for making it a great match for everyone that got to shoot it in fantastic weather. Sherwyn
  17. Same thing here - had media player 10 - downloaded 11 and still doesn't work? That's about the end of my computer knowledge.... Sherwyn
  18. My only complaint, TOO MANY LOW PORTS!!! Us fat out of shape guys did not fare well with these. I could barely walk down stairs the next day to put my gear away Great match, but my knee is still telling me to eat large quantities of ibuprofen.
  19. Angus. But he's out for now. I've got a thousand that have been under my bench a couple years, never tried them. Anybody interested - offer? Sherwyn
  20. Had some issue with priming when I first switched to the 1050. Once it loosened up a little and / or I got used to running it, issues went away. I believe that some of it may be caused by wanting to stroke it the same as my other press, and to run it smooth, you need to get that old priming stroke out of your head. Now about the only issue I have, is when I don't get the bullet placed right and it crushes the case...it would be a better machine if they designed the operator out of it. On the other hand, I don't shoot stock guns, so I'm open to modifying anything. I mounted my from under the bench, added an arm rest ( I load seated on a stool), and spent primers go directly to an old 8# powder jug (not sure how many it holds, but it's time to empty it). I've got the bullet tray, but the bin would have been just as good for me. Kept the 650 for the low quantity stuff - had to use it this week and started to question how many conversions I could justify for the 1050 - conversion cost is really the only negative I have. Sherwyn
  21. I also had good luck for a long time in 38 super (and still use it there), which is why it really puzzles me. Did check, recheck, and recheck charge weight, then ran some more tests over different chrono. First blamed the gun, but I can repeat orignal test loads with other powders. Sherwyn
  22. Had what I thought was a great load at 7.3 longshot, 121 HAP, OAL 1.160 PF at 168. Felt good, no pressure signs, etc. Then something changed (temp or ?) I lost 75 fps and the spread increased to 100 fps+. Increased charge as high as 8.3 and got no increase in velocity with extreme spread over 150+ fps. Was able to repeat any previous test loads in the gun (with other powders). Anyone seen anything similar, are can explain what might be happening? Gave up on Longshot, went to HS6 - anyone got some SP2 they want to sell? Sherwyn
  23. That was my plan - found out that I could still jam it when I used it for a reload. Must have bounced them past the ribs. Moved to plan B, open gun was meant to be fully loaded, only using big sticks. Sherwyn
  24. If you are only seeing it on some loads with the same bullet - check if you can see any marking on the last baffles of the comp. Even if you can't, I would try a little heavier recoil spring and see if anything changes (might not be where you want to go, but helps identify the issue). I've had to open the last baffle slightly to be able to use the load / spring combination I wanted. Sherwyn
