  1. No, it's not okay. Go back to post #4 and read 5.2.4 again. If it's in a pocket forward of the hip bone, you can't use it. (What's hard about this?)
  2. It's in the rule book, Appendix A1, page 55. Shows you the differences between the various types of matches.
  3. I've seen Mulligans, "gimmes", and all sorts of rules flexibility at LI ("local") USPSA matches. It can given to anyone, at the timer-holder's choice. Some of them are even certified ROs. All this is usually done by well-meaning folks, but it's basically the easier way to do things, keeps everyone happy, and is supported by local match administration. The rules are supposed to ensure safety and fairness, but it's confusing to see them executed in so many different ways.
  4. And that's why Mulligans are a bad idea. Why should the "bad" shooter get one and the "good" shooter not? The Mulligan "helped" the poor shooter's score but the lack of one hurt the better shooter. Not fair, I say. Who wouldn't want one too, when the gun doesn't work or we have a head separation or (yikes!) somebody put the ammo in backwards?
  5. Can anyone who is an attorney in their "other" life and knows the the relevant law please comment on the applicability of the variety of Federal, state and and local laws to this topic? It's not simple and, like anything, has variations by state and venue.
  6. I believe once the course of fire starts and you fire a shot, if you have a problem with your gun malfunctioning, you have 2 minutes to correct it and finish the course of fire, otherwise you get the COF scored as fired. If it is a stage malfunction, then you get a reshoot, but not because your gun malfunctioned. Is this correct? It's all in the rule book. 5.7.6 says there is no reshoot when the handgun has failed after the Start signal. 5.7.1 says that if the malfunction occurs after Make Ready and prior to the Start signal, the shooter "is entitled to retire to repair his handgun without penalty" and can run later. It's unfair to everyone (especially at a LII) if someone gets a reshoot because of their own equipment failing. It's unfortunate if it happens, but everyone gets to have the same "shot" at the stage. Maybe okay at LI (local), but what if it's a classifier, or it's a highly competitive shooter who gets an "extra" try?
  7. Yep, it's pretty much done. We're just going to go over and over and over it - BE style!
  8. The question has been asked (several times). Answers have been given (multiple times). Aren't we done here?
  9. Folks, let's not start manufacturer-bashing. Certainly not without a lot of solid data. BTW, the OP mentioned "Freedom Munitions", not "Freedom Ammunition", which are different companies. One in Texas, the other Ohio. Some data about FM - I've shot maybe 10k rounds of their 9mm, .45, & .223 in the past (both remanufactured and new) and had a FTF or two (bad primer). That's pretty much the norm for primers, including in my own reloading. A friend has shot more FM than I have and had the same success rate. Never had a case separation. That can happen with our own rounds, you know. And like I said, good customer service.
  10. Shipping ammo with USPS is also illegal so please don't do that. Ups or FedEx. Oops - thinking about bullets. My mistake. Thanks for the heads-up!
  11. Freedom Munitions mentions "USPSA" (and others) for many types of it's ammo but makes the statement about minor power factor only for its 9mm "Supermatch" ammo. Was your friend using that ammo? Also, you mentioned that he used a CZ. Which model was it? Was the barrel factory? (Freedom makes pretty good ammo, which many use for practice. They've been very responsive to customer service issues and have replaced ammo that chrono'd low (everyone has bad lots - again, chrono before match). Has your friend contacted them and asked for a refund for the match portion of the shipment?) According to the Prod Nats thread (under Match Announcements) the Lady shooter was Tori from the Glock team. There was apparently a screw-up with the bullets; they were supposed to be 147s but they were actually 115s. (Loading 115s with the lower 147-gr powder load gives you a drop in velocity and thus PF. The writer said she chrono'd at 110, which is about right.) *Everybody* needs to chrono before higher-level matches, especially the national championships! Hmm. Tori doesn't show up on the results at all, even at the bottom with the zero scores (many of those either DQd or didn't show up. It was a large match and you usually get some folks with illnesses, etc.). Well, no, he's probably not actually going to chrono ammo in the hotel parking lot. He could probably chrono at the match, in an area designated (or requested) for equipment testing, but nobody's going to want to wait until the last minute and hope that their ammo makes PF. As many have suggested above, it makes sense to have the ammo sent to you well before the match, chrono it at your home range, and then send it on to the match (shipping via USPS One-Rate box is about $15 for the Medium box). Your friend seems to have known enough to sign up for the match, bring Division-legal equipment and have it placed properly on his belt, knew match procedures and safety issues, etc. However, he seems to have made a naive mistake regarding the ammo. Now he (and many others) knows about use of the chronograph as part of match preparation. (It's mentioned many places on BE. For the newbies, just use the BE search feature or google "chrono pf site:brianenos.com" He might also want to register with BE and tell his own story, and have a dialogue with us directly instead of through the OP. He would also be able to take advantage of the treasure trove of information available here. Hope we can finally let this thread go. We know what happened and what to do. Thanks.
  12. Now that's proactive thinking! Don't leave anything to chance, check everything yourself, and then check again. (And don't lose focus and forget to bring the gun and mags. Ask me how I know...)
  13. Hmmm. Wonder what "standing erect" means (in 8.2.2). If the classifier WSB doesn't specify another position than the standard one (the "default", as it were) it doesn't seem that you get to lean, does it?
  14. Then I'll stop doing it. BritinUSA did a lot of hard work on the videos. With all the "helpful" criticism of his work, who would blame him for not doing it any more? The guy who stole his work didn't do the work, he just polished it some. Anybody can do that. HE should go to the matches and spend all his time there for a week, then put the work up, then have someone else steal it and take credit for it. Todd, if you think you have a better idea, YOU do it.
  15. I'm probably missing something - what are the start times, and when (roughly) will shooting be done each day?
  16. It's the same guy who asks the forum a bunch of "leading" questions about changing something, then insists that they justify their answers. That's backward - the one who wants change needs to justify it, not try to get everyone else to "justify" leaving it alone. Wish he'd just state his own opinion and be done with it. I'm also for no change to Production, and yes, I shoot Production (among others - they're all fun). I'm all for "learn the rules, decide what Division to shoot, and go have fun". Much time is wasted here flapping our jaws about things that aren't going to change that would best be spent in practice.
  17. Uh-oh. That's going to cause some ruffled feathers . Why don't we all let this new Division work itself out, and just have fun shooting?
  18. So how does getting focused make us "insecure"?
  19. There's nothing "wrong" with it, but it should be completely unnecessary. As many have said, "outside means outside". This thread is basically about trying to find ways to tweak our language so some people can maximally game the sport. It shouldn't be necessary to add dozens of words to WSBs or the rule book just because of the Semantic Gamers.
  20. Painting a dot, stripes, or other patterns to make it easier to reload or acquire the sights more quickly was clarified illegal. That doesn't say anything about painting the slide or frame, though, which is legal as long as it doesn't provide a competitive advantage Appendix A4, 21.2a - "This clause is NOW interpreted to specifically ALLOW refinishing the frame, as well as the slide, subject to the existing constraints on refinishing (cosmetic only, no competitive advantage). (Caps in original)
  21. Well, that would be all of them? (Uh, no pay for any...but it's a whole lot of fun!)
  22. Well, perhaps we can say the pistol you shoot makes less difference than the amount (and quality) of your practice. CZ/STI/etc. isn't the be-all-end-all of competition, skill is. (That said, shoot the gun that you like most!)
  23. Also, they apparently have live horse racing events in April and October, and the weekends book quickly.
