  1. I run a 124gr bayou over 3.2gr of titegroup. Runs about 118pf no issues knocking steel over
  2. I was at 4.7 n320 with 180gr bayou bullet
  3. Anyone shooting bayou with hs6 or autocomp with comped guns? I have shot bayou for the last 2 years and really like them with n320 and titegroup out of limited and steel guns. They are much cheaper just didn't know if the coating holds up exiting the barrel and dirty up your comp?
  4. To me there is definitely a big difference in dot movement from using my minor limited gun load 3.4gr of n320 with a 147gr fmj. Not to mention it just feels very lazy.. I did some accuracy shooting last night and noticed a HUGE difference in dot movement and feel from the hs6 and 3n38. 7gr of hs6 and 7.5gr of 3n38 are basically at the same power factor at about 144. But the 3n38 has a very noticeable difference in thump and dot movement. HS6 is by far much smoother and flatter!! So from here on out I am going to stick with it. Going to try some 125gr everglade jhp and try some auto comp next.
  5. My quest started about 3 months ago when I acquired an open Glock to try my hand at the open game without spending 3k or more on a 2011 open gun. I knew from reading a lot of posts here that it may be a challange to make it a reliable open gun to shoot steel and 3gun with. The gun is built on a 17 frame with a lone wolf 34 slide and threaded barrel with a Carver 3 port comp, fast fire dot on a carver mount. The ejection port was lowered a bit, solid guide rod with an unknown spring. I ordered a 11 lb spring for it to run minor loads. Never had any plans to run major with it. So I have read EVERY POST here related to open glocks and running a good minor load with a light bullet and a slow powder to work the comp as much as possible with a minor load. Tons of good info for me to get started. I got some 115gr jhp everglade bullets and 1 pound of 3n38 and 1 pound of hs6 to get started. All rounds were loaded with mixed brass and wsp primers. I started as long as I could load with glock mags that put me at 1.150 and then shortened to 1.130 Here is what I have so far 7.3g 3n38 1.150 oal 1152 fps avg. 132 pf 6.8g hs6 1.150 oal 1116 avg. 128pf Noticed with these 2 loads they chrono very inconsistent so shortened oal to 1.130 Also changed to a 13 lb spring to see if little hotter load with shorter oal would still cycle and not slam the slide so hard. 7.3g hs6 1.130 oal 1367 avg. 157 pf 7g hs6 1.130 oal 1260 avg. 144pf 7.5g 3n38 1.130 oal 1246 avg. 143 pf The 7g hs6 and the 7.5g 3n38 felt the best all loads ran GREAT in the gun and these two were very accurate at 10 yards (didn't shoot out any farther yet) what i did notice though is that the hs6 is pretty dirty. After about 20 rounds noticed a gold like dust in my barrel and chamber. Looks almost like it is blasting some of the jacketing off the rear of the bullet. So I picked up some 115g montana gold hp and some competition series everglade bullets to try them next. Going to do some more testing at farther range for accuracy and the other bullets to see if it was the bullet causing the crud in the barrel. One thing is for sure I am hooked on OPEN. already looking to sell a couple guns to fund a 2011 9mm ?
  6. With the square deal b you will get both. With the 550 you will need to buy a set of dies and choose what caliper conversation kit you want with it that will include the shell plate, pins, and powder funnel. Just my 2c I like the 550 because you can buy any dies with it(lee, Hornaday, rcbs, dillon, etc.) Also if you later decide to load any rifle you could with the 550. Both are great presses just more options with the 550.
  7. I still run my Miculek break and love it. RO's don't like it as much ?
  8. From what I have heard if you have the dillon trimmer there should be no need to de-bur after you trim. So all you would have to do is swage 5.56 primer pockets to loadem up. This is my process Tumble Resize and deprime Trim to 1.750 De-bur inside and outside Cut out military crimp if needed Clean primer pockets Load! De-burring and primer pockets done on lyman prep center
  9. wow...i'll stick to minor. I agree! Between cracked slides, fte's , ftf's NO THANKS! I have been working up minor loads with 11 & 13 lb springs and have had no issues with the gun running 100% at around a 140pf with hs6 and 3n38.
  10. The slower powders just work the comp better.. i did run some 115gr and 147gr minor loads with n320. They ran fine in the gun just felt like the comp was non existent.
  11. I am having issues with hs6 at 7gr with a 115gr jhp bullet. Trying to make a good minor load with a caver 3 port comp. After just 20 rds through the chrono at an average of 1200 fps my chamber and barrel have this crud in it.Josh HS6 is filthy nasty at low PF's. The hotter you run it the cleaner it gets I just really don't want to run hotter in a glock. I know people do it all the time but the thought of running a lot of major just seems like to will wear the gun out pretty quick so trying to find a nice 140-150 ish pf load to use for steel and 3 gun. When I went from 6.8 to 7 it did help so maybe I will have to push it up to 7.3 and see what happens. I tried 3n38 and it metered terrible. And the 7gr of hs6 just felt great and was very accurate so was disappointed when I noticed how dirty it was. I guess I could just run it dirty as long as it doesn't affect reliably. I clean my guns after every match anyway so that's not an issue
  12. I put the dawson precut on my edge right over the stock grip and it has held up great for about 2000 rounds and still in good shape. You will want to clean grip really well with some alcohol wipes and let dry
  13. I am having issues with hs6 at 7gr with a 115gr jhp bullet. Trying to make a good minor load with a caver 3 port comp. After just 20 rds through the chrono at an average of 1200 fps my chamber and barrel have this crud in it.
  14. I tried a 115gr hp at 7gr of hs6 loaded at 1.13. It shot GREAT nice and flat at around 1200 fps but it was very dirty. Here is a pic after just 20 rounds of chrono. Do you have this issue?
  15. Ok so when I shot the other day by the looks of the crud in the barrel it looked like un burned 3n38 powder. So I loaded some more 115gr hp with 7gr of hs6 and at a lower oal @ 1.135 To my suprise after shooting 20 rds had the same gold flake looking crap in my barrel. I was VERY happy with the chrono results very consistent at around 1185-1220 fps VERY accurate and felt GREAT!! pretty loud but shot very flat. Back to the drawing board I guess?? The gun will run my n320 minor loads just fine but doesn't work the comp very much at all so my thought is WHAT THE POINT.. Would really like to stick with the slower powder and lighter bullet to work the comp better without shooting major..
  16. I have loaded thousands of 124gr bayou over 3.2gr of titegroup at 1.160 and shot it threw many different guns with no cycling issues at all. It is very soft doesn't quite make minor but didn't need it to for steel and 3gun.
  17. So do you think that adding more or running hotter the powder will all burn off?? I guess my thought was if I can't get 7.3gr to completely burn how does adding more help??
  18. Ok so I finally worked up some minor loads and did some testing today.. this is what I loaded up all with 115gr. Jhp at 1.150 7.3gr 3n38 6.8gr HS6 4.4gr n320 All ran great with no issues cycling or ejecting. BUT. after I was finishing up noticed something in the chamber that looked to me like un burnt powder. From the 3 powders I shot looks like it's the 3n38 I am on the low end at 7.3gr it chrono very inconsistent from lowest being 1070fps to 1218fps and all over in between. The HS6 metered very consistent at around 1120fps but felt a bit more snappy that the 3n38. So will try to bump it up to 7gr and see if that helps. The n320 ran fine at 4.4gr but was very sluggish. Anyway here is a pic let me know what you open guys with some experience think
  19. N320... 4.7 gr with a 180gr bayou bullet
  20. Welcome to the forums!! What guns are you shooting?
  21. I have loaded the same 9mm for the last 2 years and have shot it in 15 different guns with no issues. 124gr bayou round nose 3.2g of titegroup loaded at 1.160 it is my steel and 3gun and practice load. It falls just short of making minor but has ran in every gun I have shot it through.
  22. Care to share your charge and oal for major and minor load with hs6?
  23. I have stippled a couple guns but have an issue with the polymer sticking to the tip of my iron now. I was wiping the tip with a rag and it didn't seem to help so I hit it with sand paper to clean it and it made it worse. Is the iron not staying hot enough or does the iron tips have some type of coating in them and I sanded that off and that's what's making the plastic stick and make it runny?
