  1. Do they feel "soft" to you? I'm thinking Ramshot Competition is still softer. Also, have you tried Precision Delta jhp? I went to them after I couldn't find Zero, haven't needed to go back. They feel good to me. I haven't tried Ramshot yet. I've got 6# of N320 and 8# of titegroup to go through before I start with another powder. My IDPA load is absolutely "soft", I cut the N320 charge down to 4.3 grains. This shoots a 153 power factor and is real flat shooting. I'll look into the Precision Delta. I've got enough Zero to get through the Area 7 next month then I will move on if I can't find anymore of them. Awesome. I'm shooting Area 7 too. On Saturday. If you are on the same day, I can give you a few pills to run some tests with. I am shooting Saturday , Squad 104 and thank you.

  3. I finally got around to put a few through my chrono this past weekend. My major load is solid at 170PF avg. 4.8 N320 @ 1.135" with Zero 180 gr JHP. Although they are now out of stock everywhere so now I'll have to find another projectile and re work a new load. 4.8 Gr N320 1.135" 180gr JHP Zero Digital Link Federal GM100 Primers String 3 Temperature: N/A Pressure: N/A Bullet Weight: 180 Power Factor Average: 170 Power Factor Low: 169 Power Factor High: 172 Number of Shots: 8 Minimum:940 Maximum: 960 Spread:20 Average: 948 Standard Deviation: 7 Shot List # Velocity Feet/Lbs Power Factor Date 8 942 354 169 5/30/16 5:45 PM 7 944 356 169 5/30/16 5:45 PM 6 940 353 169 5/30/16 5:45 PM 5 950 360 171 5/30/16 5:45 PM 4 957 366 172 5/30/16 5:45 PM 3 953 362 171 5/30/16 5:45 PM 2 941 353 169 5/30/16 5:45 PM 1 960 368 172 5/30/16 5:45 PM
  4. I don't have my notes with me , I'll post them later. I didn't get a chance to chrono the 4.8 rounds as I ran out of time. When testing new loads..............my goal is to have every bullet tested to exceed the PF floor with a plus 5 PF buffer (950 FPS). Then there are no worries for the chrono stage and dealing with the possibilities of temp change, light bullet weight, humidity elevation, chrono measuring differences and most importantly Murphy's Law! With that being said and I use N320 and Zero 180 FMJ, I think you might need a couple of more 1/10's of a grain. Your choice. With 4.7 I was at 166.5 PF , I set my 550 up so the average was 4.79-4.81 grains. This powder doesn't meter like TG does, it's like a mini Varget without the ether smell being a stick powder. My gun shot great and I think this will be a solid load for me, now if only I could find something to make myself move faster...
  5. Thank you. I'm still at 1.135 with 4.8 and the rounds felt good in a match I shot Sunday. I'll chrono them this weekend and see where I'm at. I don't know what effect seating the bullet an additional .005" would have. I hear 40 is unforgiving in regards to "wiggle room" with pressure. This being my first go at this caliber maybe I'm being overly cautious but I'd prefer to be in this case.

  7. Update - I went up to 4.7 gr N320 that gave me a 166.5 PF . I made some with 4.8 @ 1.135" and shot them today. Stock G35 cycles great, good accuracy. Brass all looked perfect. This is my major load now.
  8. Thank you. I know 40 can be "touchy" and don't feel like blowing the slide off my gun. I appreciate the guidance.
  9. First post here after lurking for a while, great info on this forum. I've reloaded thousands of 9mm,45 and 223 but I'm far from knowing everything. I'm now trying to find a good 40 load that will get me to major pf in my G35. After much looking around on here I settled with N320 as my first powder, I made 2 loads to start 4.3gr and 4.5 gr with 180gr Zero JHP all at 1.135 with Federal GM100 primers . As I thought the 4.3 was low with an average of 869fps for a 156 PF but the 4.5gr was close. They averaged 902fps for a 162 PF so I'm almost there. My question would be should I bump it to 4.6 or 4.7 grains of powder ? Or what effect will I get if I reduce COL by .010" to 1.125" ? I know pressure will increase slightly and I'm wondering if seating the bullet that extra amount will give me the 30fps or so that I'll need to make over major pf. I have plenty of titegroup and even some W231/HP38 I can try out also but I started with N320 because people seem to love it. I liked the recoil and accuracy of the 4.5gr rounds. There were no pressure signs at all. Which would be more favorable to the experienced loaders? Shorter COL or bump the powder charge by .2? My #s from the 10 round string with 4.5 (not sure what happened with the 878, I'm using a dillon 550 crimp was consistent maybe powder drop was off a few?) 902 900 913 911 911 878 905 894 903 907 Oh and for a Monday laugh at my expense, yes I shot my chrono rod yesterday because I'm a hack. Time for some dowel stock..damn lefty trigger flinch reared its ugly head at the wrong time!
