Finding lead is getting harder and harder. Factoring the time and cost if your time is worth anything my suggestion would be to buy hitech coated bullets in bulk from any of the reputable sources. Seems like it would be less of a pain then casting your own and powder coating. Casting your own is fun but takes time and money too.

I use the BCM gunfighter medium. Any of the aftermarket ones with a slightly larger handle should make it easier to charge using one hand. Nothing wrong with the original, but there are advantages to the aftermarket ones. Comes down to what you're using the AR for and how much you like customizing your guns.

Evidently my search fu isn't what it used to be as I'm not finding what I'm looking for. For those shooting 9mm 1911s and needing to cut weight, what's the best source for a aluminum mainspring housing? Roughest checkering possible I have an Ed Brown chain link on my 40 that I really like but it's stainless and really heavy. Also silver preferred, as it would match the gun best.

That's what I did. Sig P320rx (among other options) is basically made for the division. Add some 140 base pads and start blasting.

Buy the Tripp 10mm 10 rounders from Dawson as they grind the basepad just enough on the leading edge so that it fits the box. Mine have passed no problem at multiple big matches. They feed and reload better than other options.

Vortex viper pst 1-4 is pretty hard to beat for an entry level price. I liked mine and think it was better overall than the Burris 1-5 I replaced it with but there isn't that big of a difference between the two. Comparing ss nationals to other big matches isn't apples to apples. Ss nationals remains 8 round neutral, and this heavily favors major. Other matches aren't necessarily as neutral with respect to round count and thus the gap narrows. A better comparison would be to look at the area matches and compare results there. Ss, more so than limited the balance can sway as capacity is traded for scoring. 2 rounds in limited isn't much most of the time. 2 rounds in single stack can be the difference between a standing reload or not. Depending on the HF and your reload speed it makes a difference.

And nothing says you can't just load 8 in 10 round mags. Mag capacity isn't limited, you just can't load to capacity if you use 10 round mags for major. No more than 8 rounds in a mag after the buzzer or its off to open. You do have to make sure they fit in the box. I use 10 round Tripp cobra mags for ss major in my 40.

I found a used dan Wesson in 40 on gunbroker awhile back. After some initial fiddling with bullet profile, load length and mag selection it's been 100%. It's a long ways from the cheapest option as there weren't many made so they carry a premium cost. Overall I've been satisfied, though if I had it to do over I'd have gone 9mm minor. More often than not the extra round(s) outweigh the scoring penalty, at least in the matches I've shot both locally and at several larger matches including last years WSSSC and this years Area 1. Less expensive initially and less expensive per round. Not that cost is a huge factor but it's there. There's also a better selection of pistols available. If I had to do major I'd have gone 45 knowing what I know now even though it would have been an additional caliber. Again, more selection of guns and (generally) less finicky than either 40 or 9. YMMV.

As long as you don't try to carry it on you should be ok [emoji41] Southwest says less than 11# is ok. My understanding is Alaska doesn't limit you other than extra weight if your bag is over 50#.

MSA Sordins with gel cups. Spendy but worth every penny. Tried the Howard Leights and the Peletors. Neither stood up more than a year. My MSAs are on their second season and going strong with no issues.

If you've shot much production 10 round stage plans likely come easy. 8 rounds is a different game and often having an extra couple rounds could be a confidence builder. In my sample size of 1 40 SS can be a little finicky and I wouldn't do it again. For major I would have gone with a 45 even though it would have meant adding a caliber.

RE: dropped and offset, while not expressly prohibited it likely won't meet the spec of the whole frontstrap above the belt.

I have a sure fire on my AR. It's the old style and I got it originally so I could also use it as a suppressor mount. But, they changed styles and I ended up going a different suppressor route. They test well, and mine works. They are one of the more reasonably priced options, and perform ok. I had emailed the MD last week and was told 10/10. Clearly that's come and gone, so I'm not sure when but soon hopefully. I'm going to need to buy plane tickets soon and knowing the shooting schedule would be a big help.
