  1. That was an omission on my part Rich. As an all-around rifle - which I know comes with many compromises. I bought a 700 LTR in 308, which has a 20", fluted heavy barrel. I might do some hog or deer hunting (I'd love to shoot a yote), as well as try to shoot it in some longer range competitions with reactive targets (not group shooting). I realize I lose a little velocity with a 20" barrel - but it is what it is . . . The rifle already has a Super Sniper 10x on it - which may be fine for my use. I just have a line of this Lupy and it got me thinking.
  2. I just bought a Remington 700 and have a line on a used Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x50 w/ fine duplex reticle. Any opinions/experiences with this scope? What's a fair price on a used one in great condition w/o the box? Thx.

  4. How's Parker doing? How did you kill the snake?
  5. Thanks for the replies. The barrel on the Savage is about 19". I had the smith cut it down from 20.75 with he threaded it for the can. Now I wish I had him cut it to 16". I'm not sure 3" of barrel is worth another $80 for cut and re-thread/crown, but it's pretty long with the can. I'm going to chrono the Savage and my 10/22 "Krinkov Plinker" SBR with a 8.5" barrel. I shoot CCI Standard Velocity ammo because it's pretty cheap, stays sub-sonic (no sonic crack) and has enough power to cycle the action on a semi auto. The factory specs say 1070 fps. I'll let you know the outcome if you're interested. Below is a pic of the Krink Plinker with my other can - a SWR Warlock. It wears a red dot in the pic, but now has a Weaver 1-3x. Good clean fun . . .
  6. Hey Flex. I'm interested in cutting back a barrel on a suppressed rifle (SBR stamp in hand). I am shooting sub-sonic ammo. I want to maximize velocity with that ammo while maintaining the shortest barrel that will accomplish that goal. Here's the rifle - a Savage Mark II with a Liberty Shoofly can.
  7. What barrel length consistently maximizes the velocity out of a .22lr? I've heard as short as 10" maximizes powered burn and velocity. Don't know if that's true. I want the shortest barrel that burns the most powder. Anyone know?
  8. Interesting thread Brian - thanks for the heads up. I just order the book. Trying to decide between the 804C and the Red Ryder (which it looks like Lucky used).
  9. My VERY Southern mom - living in Charleston - makes the best shrimp n grits I've ever had . . but she won't give you all the ingredients!
  10. +1 - and did a great trigger job on my M&P!
  11. Merlin - very sorry to hear. I know what you're feeling and with you and yours healing and peace.
  12. Happy birthday Steve! Cy
  13. Questions for you synthetic oil fans: Are there any issues when switching from a conventional oil to a synthetic? Once you switch to synthetic is it bad to go back? What is the approx price difference for an oil change (I don't change my own oil)? My car is an 07 Infiniti G35 Sport with about 15k - if that matters.
  14. A woman in our subdivision committed suicide this week. She shot herself in the heart. She left a husband and two young boys. It truly was a very selfish act. She had some episodes prior to this - she was likely mentally ill. Very sad.
  15. Thanks guys. I'm not looking for something that I intend to put a lot of rounds into. The little steel targets are sitting probalbly 8' below where I shoot. That downward angle makes any misses go into the dirt. Here's a pic of the area. How about some stacked bags of dirt in burlap bags? Ones that are the size of large bags of potting soil.
  16. Looking for a cheap easy backstop for a .22. I'm shooting at a downward angle and the ground eats the missed shots, but I just want to be doubly safe. Will an archery cube/foam target stop a sub-sonic .22 out of a <9" barrel (estimated 1,000, 40 grains). Something like this:
  17. Rest in Peace Samson. You will forever be in our hearts.

    Poison oak

While hiking to fish a few years ago, my son had to poop in the woods. He picked a leaf of Poison Oak to wipe his butt with It didn't turn out well.
  19. I've broken a couple of those pins in a G22 and a G27. The pistols still ran fine with the broken pins though! Just change them out and check all parts on a regular basis.
  20. One word: shotgun. I don't kill animals for no reason, but aggressive snakes . . .
  21. That's a crazy jump! What's the dog? GSD?
