  1. In what situations would this drill help you? Or in other words, with a pistol... rifle... or shotgun what type of challenges in a 3G match would this drill help you with?
  2. I've found that my close load and long load will hit the "same" out to 200 yards. I say the "same" because they probably don't. But with the typical 4 MOA+ targets in 3 gun it doesn't matter. There's enough give in 4 MOA targets that you can use different ammo and still hit them with the same hold. That 200 can be stretched up to 250-300 yards if you play with your loads to better match each other. Right now with previously bought primed and processed 223 brass from X-Treme $115/1000, 24 grains of WC844 ~$12/lb bought in 2011, 55 grain blemished copper bullets ~$60/1000 I'm about at $210 per 1000 bullets. If I processed my own brass it would be less. Right now $320-$340 for 1000 factory loaded new 55's. I can do about a 1000 rds an hour. So I'm "paying" myself $50+ an hour tax free if I compare it to new ammo. Around $30-$40 if I bought reloaded 223. If I had regular priced components I would probably just buy factory ammo for close range ammo.
  3. Just to follow up with the 2nd lot # 2757. Picked 10 from each box, head stamps were 10 FC and 20 LC. FC averaged 1.740" and the LC was 1.748". On this lot the neck was noticeably tighter. I run a Lee FL die on station 1 in order to round out the case mouth by running the bell of the decapper over the case mouth. A lot of resistance with the second lot. With the loaded rounds I'd say 60% mic'ed in my 5.56 EGW mic. So 40% failed the EGW. But about 98% of those rounds mic'ed fine with my JP mic. Two out of about 200 failed both the JP and EGW. Another round had a huge dent and one round had an upside down primer. So ~4 failures out of about 200 that I checked.
  4. From where I come from when we load anything we say "load up". As in: "I loaded up 300 rounds of 9MM yesterday." "How many rounds do you load up per session?" We don't say "I loaded down 300 rounds of 9MM yesterday" or "How many rounds do you load down per session?"
  5. Has anybody tried loading up a 300 win mag to 308 power levels? What powder did you try? What bullet? What primer? Etc? What was the accuracy like? Thanks.
  6. I would generally carry muzzle up for "extended" carry. If I squat down to do something... muzzle up carry => the buttstock hits the ground ... muzzle down carry => the muzzle (potentially) hits the ground. Front carry generally means I'm going to be using the rifle relatively soon. So muzzle down for me when I front carry.
  7. Doesn't say at all here that it is only coated. http://www.brownells.com/search/index.htm?k=titanium+firing+pin&ksubmit=y
  8. I (now) know. But why didn't Brownells say that in the name of the item?
  9. Well that sort of sucks. Brownells calls it a "DPMS - AR-15/M16 TITANIUM FIRING PIN". I weighed mine with a normal DPMS and they weight the same. So it just a coating.
  10. Where are you reading of the breaking of titanium firing pins?
  11. The rebate I'm seeing is only for XTRII's that are 2-10X at the bottom. Is there one specific for the 1-5?
  12. Well I got the 3K I ordered. I ordered another 3K since they had another sale and it was cheaper than the first 3K. So I ordered 6K total so far. Comes in a black box with a lot #. The first 3 boxes that I got was #41. Took out ten cases from each box and took a look at the headstamps... all 30 of them was "FC 223 Rem". All with gold colored primers. I haven't shot them. I loaded up 80 to shoot for the match tomorrow with 24.7 WCC844, 55 grain American Marksman CU bullets to be used in my mid-gas gun. I had to clear up some of the shavings from the bullet but ALL of them passed my EGW gauge. With Midway Pulled LC brass I was getting about a 5% rejection when using the EGW. I took out a couple and measured them and got some relative comparisons: XT 223 (10): AVG: 1.740 SD: .0019 HI/LO/ES: 1.744/1.738/.006 5.56 Midway Pulled (5): AVG: 1.758 SD: .0027 HI/LO/ES: 1.763/1.755/.008 Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor New (10): AVG: 1.916 SD: .0011 HI/LO/ES: 1.918/1.914/.004
  13. Everybody would prefer single headstamp once-fired. The one reviewer says he thinks it is 1X fired brass. I bought 3K of the primed XTreme for $364.10 delivered. Scharch's website is currently down. But I think at current prices 3K primed from Scharch is around $600+ delivered. $240 savings is worth the risk for local match and practice ammo. For big matches I will still use Scharch or new brass for my LR ammo and factory 55's for close.
  14. I usually use Scharch/Top Brass for processed 223 brass with good results. Has anybody used X-Treme's processed 223 brass? Significantly cheaper than Scharch but they don't specify what primer they used and they don't specifically say how many times they have been fired and what type of headstamp they have, etc. http://www.xtremebullets.com/Rifle-Brass-s/48374.htm Good? Bad? OK?
  15. I've been told in the past that rifles with rifle length buffer tubes recoil less than rifles with carbine buffer tubes. If you have run both types and tuned both types... All other things "equal"... have you found the above to be true? I currently run carbine buffer tubes. If you were in the same boat, is the difference (if any) worth the expense to convert?
  16. If I had to do it under $1100 total? Remington 700 SPS Varmint in 308 or 243 $570 (Longer barrel than the SPS Tactical. Both rifles have crappy stocks. Gunbroker.com price.) EGW Scope Rail $45 Falcon Menace Scope 4-14x $360 Burris XTR Rings 30mm $65 Everything plus s/h, tax, fees, etc. My personal bare minimum: 700 SPS Varmint in 243 Win $570 Take Off 700P (etc.) stock $200 PTG AICS Bottom Metal $130 AICS Magazine $80 Smith to Inlet for BM and Pillars ~$150 EGW Scope Rail $45 Burris XTR Rings 30mm $65 Bushnell ERS Elite Scope $880 http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1325134653/bushnell-elite-tactical-ers-rifle-scope-30mm-tube-6-24x-50mm-side-focus-1-10-mil-adjustments-first-focal-matte?cm_vc=ProductFinding ~$2120 + s/h + etc
  17. I'm guessing since it is a small knife you are replacing you will be using it for EDC. For EDC I use the Leatherman Skeletool CX. http://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-830850-Skeletool-CX-Multitool/dp/B000XU43IC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433515565&sr=8-1&keywords=skeletool&pebp=1433515558773&perid=1QM2KWPGBZBT3VDQH1YV I also have the regular Skeletool in my range bag. It doesn't have the 154CM blade and the carbon fiber (?) scales of the CX. The Skeletools have changeable bits and are able to have two reversable bits on the tool. Best midsize multi tool for EDC in my book. Also have the Style CS on my keychain. Has scissors, blade, bottle opener, tweezers, etc. Somethings the Skeletools do not have. http://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-831206-Style-Keychain-Multi-Tool/dp/B0037STL7A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433515763&sr=8-1&keywords=skeletool+style&pebp=1433515758636&perid=15R2P1Q6600YRDSE4KEJ I have Sidekicks (for the cars) and a Surge. But I would not recommend those for EDC since they are too heavy for pocket carry. If I used them for EDC I'd have to carry them on the belt. If I had to do it again I'd buy my CX from KnifeWorks and have my name put on the blade for an additional $8. http://www.knifeworks.com/leathermanskeletoolcxblackcarbonfiberscalenosheath.aspx#.VXG4_U9VhBd I wouldn't put my name on a under $30 EDC blade. But for a $80+ EDC I'd put my name on it in the hopes that I get it back if I misplace it.
  18. I got it a couple of days ago. I mounted it up but haven't shot it yet. I was all jazzed when I first got it. It was overcast and went outside and it was plenty bright. Then it got sunny... in a bright sunny day when I was in the sunlight too (if I was in the shade or in a room looking out the window the brightness was OK) at max power I can barely see the red on the reticle. No bueno IMO. With all the other scopes available and some more coming online I definitely wouldn't buy this scope at full pop. I personally wouldn't recommend it at even $900-$1000. At $500... it's a decent scope/deal.
  19. Is there such a thing as a lighter strength carbine buffer spring? All I'm finding are extra power ones. Is it possible to cut some coils off the spring? If so how many? Thanks.
  20. Widener's only has SP Magnum primers now. Magnum primers usually will have thicker cups and will be probably be even harder to ignite. If you have been happy with S&B's, Powder Valley currently has S&B's SPP for $22/1000.
  21. Doesn't work well with my Glocks with trigger jobs. Had one misfire with a 2011 after using 1000's. Happened during a $1000 match... so that was one too many for me. Only use Federals for $1000 matches. And they are harder to seat compared to Federals.
  22. no i have not, really dont think its the bad lever. Gun runs 100% with spikes bcg So you are aware that the BAD lever can cause problems? http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=209737&hl=%2Bbad+%2Blever#entry2343470 It's fairly easy to take out the lever... shoot the rifle to see if it solves the problem... then put it back on.
