Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Hey Kurt, that's awesome, thanks! I'll try modding it first and see where that gets me.
  2. Hey guys, I was working on my quad loads last night and discovered that as I really sped up and dug in, my fingertips were catching pretty badly on the end of my RNT bolt release tab on the first pass (with the 2nd set of shells held in my fingertips beside the receiver). It got to the point where the tab actually started to bend out because I was catching it so badly, not to mention it hurting my fingers. Has anyone else encountered this issue with the RNT tab or the other oversized bolt releases? Is this a technique issue? I thought about cutting the tab back a little so it wasn't overhanging the button so bad and thus creating less of a potential snag point. Another option would be to install a TTI, Nordic, or other large button. Then again, the only time I'm going to use that button at speed is if I have to load from my Matchsaverz and I tend to load more conservatively than that. So, to that point I'm considering ditching the whole idea of an oversized bolt release. Thanks for any thoughts or feedback!
  3. To begin with, this is not intended to be a covert for-sale ad. I've not fully decided if I want to sell the gun or not, and if I do, it won't be until after the A3G championship match at the end of this month. Bottom line, I'm not sure I care to continue to pursue the 3gn Nation style matches since for the time/money invested, especially with my 2 boys at home, I'd just prefer to shoot the local "tactial" style matches. For those, I don't need a raced-out shotgun. So, with that said, I have a Benelli M1. I bought it as a field model with a 28" barrel. I also have a 21" field barrel for it. Both barrels are upgraded with HiViz Comp. fiber optic sights. Both barrels have the full set of factory chokes and I also have an extended Briley Spectrum Light Modified choke. Mods/components: Nordic MXT + 9, spring Nordic MXT + 5, spring Nordic Nut Nordic endcap Nordic clamp Nordic Follower, red Brownells Follower, red Nordic bolt handle Redneck Tactical bolt release tab Bolt modified for ghost loading Loading Port opened TTI Lifter Matchsaverz installed on forend Limbsaver recoil pad Not sure if I should try to sell the gun with both barrels or split it up. Any thoughts on package and split up values would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  4. Illumination is visible in all but the brightest of daylight. Even then, the ring is bold enough not to be an issue: No Illumination, full sun: Max Illumination, full sun: Max illumination, shade: Better reticle detail shown on a different/cloudy day: 4X
  5. It is as much "true 1X" as any of these scopes are. The problem is folks get the diopter all f'd up and see weird things and then declare the scope not to be "true 1X". I mostly appreciate the massive FOV this scope has. As far as useability on 1, it meets or exceeds the Vortex Razor 1-6 on 1. Hope that helps.
  6. I shot my first match with this scope Sunday and have to say that I really enjoyed it. It's helping me overcome my distrust of "1X" optics for shooting on the move. This match has a "gulley run" which basically consists of 10 targets in the woods that must be double-tapped on the move between the starting point and cone. Targets are left and right and partially obscured by trees, etc. Targets are IDPA silhouettes and are scored with full value being added for down zones. I completed the stage in 19 seconds minus 1, so 20. All in all, that's moving on uneven terrain, forward and laterally (curved path through the woods) with 19/20 hits inside an 8" ring. On another stage, an array of 4 IDPA targets were shot from a static position, two to the body left to right; then one to the head right to left. I was able to shoot this in 6.15. The fastest shooter on our squad (and overall match winner) shot it in 6.09 using an Aimpoint. At this point I'm gaining comfort with it and anxious to put it through its paces some more in the A3G Championship match at the end of October. So far, it doesn't look like it's giving up anything to an Aimpoint.
  7. Here's my 28" M1 with a Nordic +9 (12 rounds):
  8. This is truth. BTDT with that scope. Issues: 1) Inability to focus the scope/poor optical clarity 2) FFP reticle, not daylight bright and no leading crosshairs...reticle washes out and you can't even find the small black dot. 3) Uncapped turrets that move too easily. This cost me a match when I pulled my rifle out of the case, noticed that the turret was not zeroed and moved it to the closest zero...it was a revolution high. For anyone that cares, I purchased the Trijicon Accupower with the red BDC segmented circle reticle. My mount came in yesterday so I hope to get it zeroed this weekend. So far all impressions are favorable. See the Accupower titled thread here for more info, reticle pics, etc.
  9. I got out this afternoon to take some reticle pics of the Accupower 1-4. I bought a used Larue SPR-E VFZ (non-QD) off Arfcom yesterday so hopefully it'll be here next week for me to mount and zero. In the meantime, my observations about the Accupower are all positive. You have to understand that I've been staunchly against LPV's for a long time. The concept sounds good and all, but everything I'd messed with up until this point had let me down in one way or another. Usually it was that the scope lacked a true 1X on the bottom end. I live in Northeast GA and both natural terrain and matches are all pretty much inside 100 yds. For that distance, the red dot is king. Try running a shoot house or a 3gn bay stage with a 1.25 or 1.5 on the bottom end and those 5 ft targets will eat your lunch. However, I do see the utility of the higher magnification, be it shooting something farther away, or finding/identifying a partially-occluded or dimly-lit target. Some of the earlier scopes that bragged about true 1X (Accupoint, Vortex Razor 1-6) gave horrible fisheye, which I still found distracting for close up targets. Then, you have reticle design. I prefer simpler, faster, ballpark to slower but more precise, so the 5.56 BDC segmented circle in the Accupower is right up my alley. It's similar to shooting a TA-11 ACOG with a Horseshoe. You've got this big, fat, in your face circle for closeup speed, but then very clearly-defined holdovers for distance. The glass is fantastic as well. Perhaps my favorite thing about the Accupower is its ability to disappear. In the pics below you'll see what I mean. Because of the great eye box, field of view, true flat 1X, and low overall profile, you really don't find yourself looking through the scope on 1X. Rather, it's very much like looking through an Aimpoint or Eotech in that your focus stays on the target and you simply move the reticle onto the target vs "looking through" the optic. I suppose the one thing that some will consider a downside to this optic is its lack of firedot-bight reticle. The reticle does illuminate and you can see it during daylight hours, but the color will wash out on a bright background in bright sunlight. However, the bold black reticle makes this a non-issue. This was another thing that was on my LPV wish list: that the reticle had to be visible/useable without illumination. For example, I love the Leupold Mark 6, but with its FFP design, the reticle shrinks on 1X and becomes a blazing bright dot. That's great so long as your battery is working, but without illumination, that tiny 1X aiming point can be hard to find. Hence, the SFP (same size throughout power range) bold black reticle in the Accupower is a great choice. Finally, Trijicon did a great job keeping the weight manageable. With most of the popular LPV's weighing in at 20+ oz, the 16oz Accupower is quite nice. Well, that's enough rambling for now. I'll be mounting this on my 3gun rifle and putting it through its paces in the coming months. Wish me luck! Pictures show an IDPA silhouette at roughly 20 yds: 1X, no illumination, full afternoon sun: 1X, max illumination, full afternoon sun: 4X, max illumination, full afternoon sun: 1X, max illumination, same lighting, target in shade:
  10. Thanks guys, that's good word! Next question: I also have a 28" barrel for this gun. In fact, it came 28" when I bought it and then I bought the 21" by itself. If I'm going to have the long tube on the gun, should I also just run the long barrel? They'll be the same length and I'd pick up some velocity/knockdown, right?
  11. I'm switching from Factory to Practical and so I'm needing to add some tube to my shotgun. I have a 21" Benelli M1 with currently an 8 round (+5) Nordic MXT. Would I be better off just buying another longer tube or getting the coupler nut and a shorter tube? My goal is to get to 12 in the tube, so either I'm going to buy a +9 or a +4 with a coupler nut.
  12. Shotgun mag capacity is driving the switch for the most part. Our local 3gn matches are very shotgun heavy. Last match I shot over 100 shotgun rounds, 75 pistol rounds, and 15 rifle rounds. With stages like that, being a Factory shooter just doesn't work so well. I guess I was figuring that if I was going to be shooting Practical then I might as well have the option of magnification on the rifle. Beyond that, if I decide to go to a major then I will be shooting further and again the magnification will be a good thing.
  13. I'm making the switch from Factory/Limited to Practical/Tacops. I've got $700-$900 ($900 is stretching it) to spend on glass for my rifle. I'm in GA and both matches I currently shoot max out @ 100yds, so probably not a huge difference between 4X and 6X on the top end. Then again, because of bay-style/shoothouse layouts, there are plenty of targets inside 10yds so a true 1X and generous eyebox are important. I'd prefer to get more bang for my buck buying used if possible. 13 years in the industry (mostly on the "tactical" side of things) has me biased towards Leupold, Trijicon, or Nightforce. As much as I love my Aimpoints and that blistering bright dot, battery life doesn't carry over so well in the Low Power Variables yet and so I'm thinking I want a bold black reticle. Initially I'm thinking the Nightforce 1-4 with FC-2. Not daylight bright, but black reticle should be bold enough. Basic 2/4/6 holdovers (center, top of triangle, bottom of triangle). Durability is certainly there. For Leupold, maybe the CMR VX-6 if I can find one, or buy a cheap used Duplex VX-6 and pay Leupold for the reticle upgrade. Local shop has the 1-4 Accupower for $650 and that's also got a bold, segmented circle reticle. Thoughts or ideas before I pull the trigger? In addition to a gaming rifle, I'd also like the optic to be "duty rated" so that has me scared off of the Burris (seen lots of turret and reticle issues with them over the years). Thanks guys!
  14. I did a site search and didn't come up with anything. Saw two of these on the shelf at work Monday night. Price tag started with a "6." Either $649 or $699, don't remember which. Seems like a pretty decent scope at a good price point. Looked very bright to me, couldn't get illumination to wash out. Thoughts? https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=RS24-C-1900006
  15. Game on! Not sure if it was the cleaning/lube or the solid shouldering, but the gun ran 50 birdshot 100% on Friday night and the Fiocchi 7/8 Aero's shoot dead center @ 25yds. Thanks again for the help!
