  1. Whats sillier??? the fact that this topic has gone to 8 pages, or the fact that we're discussing if personal safety or competitor safety should be LESS important than ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!! At what point do we say that a competitors safety and well being should take second place behind,..............ANYTHING!!!!!!! Please post the matches that feel that way so I can avoid them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy Crap, I can't believe how some of you people think. Whats next, "its Ok if you break the 180 and fire a shot,.... as long as nobody was hurt"??????????? trapr
  2. funny!!! my 1301 has a cartridge release and the safety is in front of the trigger. safety in front of trigger. Trapr
  3. remember that what you can do, velocity wise, in a bolt gun does not safely transfer over to a gas gun. Ex. while 2800fps in a 260 w/140gr is doable in a bolt gun, 2600 is more likely in the gas gun. So look at dropping 100 to 200 fps with whatever caliber when using the gas gun. Trapr
  4. you will gain a bit more length, 1/2" maybe compared to the shortest possible combination without the KO trapr
  5. 6-8" hi at what distance??? 3-4 inches right, do you have a rear sight in place??? most all of us shoot low recoil slugs, not full power slugs. the Rem mananged recoil shoots good out of my 1301. Trapr
  6. nevermind its really not worth it. Jesse you're absolutely right!!! Trapr
  7. Jesse,..............try rereading it with a more open mind???? I was trying to get you to understand that there is a reason why there are different scoring methods I was trying to get you to understand that there is a reason why some matches do things easy, many matches are put on by people that are simply burned out but feel a sense of obligation to the sport. I was trying to get you to understand that coming up with what you (not you personally, you as in people), think are good ideas, may not wind up being good ideas. (I even gave an example of one of mine) I was trying to get you to understand that I know you are involved with a match giving organization, but its a completely different veiwpoint from being involved firsthand. I'll give you analogy. Ham and eggs, the chicken is involved,....but the pig is commited!!!! and yes, I was trying to get you to understand that far more can be accomplished without a video camera in your hand FOR THE GOOD OF THE SPORT, than with one. Now, if you're trying to hurt my feelings by calling HPSC a "useless" name of a match, you're going to have to try harder. trapr
  8. According to the people that put matches on Jesse, there is a best way to score things. Its the way they choose to do it, which is why there are 4-5 or 5-6 different scoring methods. the problem with being a problem solver is that you are solving what you construe to be a problem, when others do not. If you truly want to see if your ideas have merit or work, then you need to apply them, either by holding or running a match and using your ideas. much the same way my idea of using softballs for close range knockdown rifle targets, in "my" testing they worked, but on the larger scale they didn't. your analogy to close range targets is based on "easy" shots but many matches make close shots tough by using no shoots, or awkward positioning, the issue is that every time you do that you need HELP, and lots of it to pick up and set up stages and targets. Far too many people don't want to HELP set up or tear down, far too many people want "EASY", far too many people want to take care of only themselves and thier own concerns, like VIDEOing instead of resetting!!! Far too many people want to armchair quarterback, or keyboard quarterback things without knowing, helping, or showing honest appreciation for the effort it takes. Everybody seems to want to do what "they" want to do, or have the type of targets "they" want to have, to truly make a match fair across the board, a mix of targets and distances is necessary. As I said in the beginning, the only way to truly know if your ideas have merit, is to apply them, so step up and run a match. When HPSC folded, you were talking about taking over, at first, then it seemed that you wanted someone else to take over instead?? Step up, run something firsthand, I'm not refering to helping out behind the scenes like with 3rd gen 3 gun, but take the reins be a MD/RM, of a major match. Then you can apply all your ideas,........... Trapr
  9. dewberry, stationary clays at 25m are quite common overseas and not a difficult shot provided you know where your SG shoots slugs, assuming that 85% would miss would be incorrect, perhaps 85% would hit quite easily and the rest may take longer or not at all. Fritz, what SG do you shoot and doe sit have en easy way to attach sights? Trapr
  10. as in all things that are scored, fairness demands consistency. I see ryann's point, yes you need to hit them, regardless of how they are set, but one way they fall to a less than solid hit and the other way takes a solid hit. I believe he's saying he doesn't care how they are set, just so its consistent for EVERYONE!!!!, this is also where the shooter can take a bit of extra time and get a friend to look at targets and make sure they are set properly. Last year we had some pro's complain about consistent target presentation, saying some targets were not placed square to the shooter, take the extra time to look at the cof before the timer starts, and get the RO to correct anything that looks inconsistent. BTW, the pro's did not get reshoots, they shot the targets in question so we couldn't fix anything once they shot them down, except to make sure RO's did due diligence to the COF. trapr
  11. the stock itself willi, not the pistol grip part of the stock. because of the extra leverage you get by having the pistol grip drop off of the centerline of the stock the stock typically gets torqued down real tight, this can cause undue pressure on the recoil spring tube and cause it to bind, leading to malfunctions. Trapr
  12. my mega kick off came from the factory marked for the a400, so I would assume that the a400 and 1301 receivers in the back where the buttstock attaches are the same. as for barrels I've been told no by Beretta, as for 390/391 I can't say as I don't own either and am not familiar with them at all. As for the other kick off I don't know as I have the mega kickoff. also "basically the same" does not mean the same so thats why I answered the stock question the way I did, from where the stock attaches they seem to accept the same parts, beyond the stock attachment point your on your own to figure that one out. Trapr
  13. green typically holds color the longest in bad light, meaning easiest to see early and late. and is easiest for your eyes to see overall. i was used to red from my pistols but made the change to green on all my long guns that I could change the fiber on. trapr
  14. I typically use the smallest one, green. and thats also the one i place in the sight for all the sight mod work I send out, i also include the whole selection in case others tastes vary. Trapr
  15. I have a carbon arms fore end for the JP nut, that I am willing to get rid of if you're interested. trapr
  16. the issue with putting the rear sight on a riser is that the front would need to be raised the same amount, which would be ok but more difficult than raising the back. first off what shotgun are you using? is there a rail on it to mount a sight easily? if so getting the JP set up would be easiest, it comes with a built in riser for both front and rear. trapr
  17. it may still be easier to have bius off to the side since precision is not that important and have OKO dot for slugs centered on shotgun? if so JP offset short range sight or XS offset sights might work Trapr
  18. Fritz, why not try and zero your OKO dot for slugs and then see where it hits for shot?? instead of zeroing it for shot and hoping for it to work with slugs??It may be the easier of the two to accomplish. Trapr
  19. We do offer the service, however current market trends require us to pay for employee birth control, food stamps for the underprivileged, as well as fund hunting trips for the mentally and socially challenged. So due the our desire to provide unparalleled product and service, the current cost of such a conversion is just under 100k, on the good news side of it the turnaround time is currently 7 years, so you may qualify for our payment plan, provided you can show proof of insurance and have 2 valid and current picture forms of government (USA) ID, ;P Trapr
  20. here is another "accuracy" aspect to think about on slugs, check the "BC" on a slug, now check the velocity and put it on a ballistic calculator, at what point does the very poor BC'd projectile go trans-sonic???? Every good accuracy shooter should know that you lose WAY too much accuracy once this happens, many of the popular LR slugs do this before reaching 75-100 yards, even my SBE with a fully rifled barrel shooting 1900fps sabots, loses 100% reliability of hitting a 12" target beyond 150yds(iron sights), and yet my 50 alaskan shooting a poorer BC'd bullet than the 12ga sabot, retains 100% hit reliability at 150yds????????? Both going the same speed, both the same "caliber", both the same sighting system, and both the same shooter?????????????? lets just face the truth, the slugs we shoot for competition, in the guns we use, are really 75yd guns, if we truly want 100% hit reliability on the decent sized targets that we previously mentioned, regardless of how GOOD the trigger puller is!!!!!! trapr
  21. Yes, Religious Shooter, some AR10 patterns utilize a firing pin spring, (SR25 pattern). ericm, the only time I've had a slamfire was with a JP aluminum bcg, also ripped out a few bursts at the pull of the trigger........and a Ti firing pin solved that issue. But, I think maybe I will drop a Ti firing pin in my Finland gun just for piece of mind!!!! trapr
  22. RNT, uses XS rear and Hiviz comp front. 10/22 rear was really good back in the day, but you had to flip it up or down to get it out of the way or use it. XS is always there and unobtrusive, you simply switch your focus to the sight and notice it, when you're pointing your gun as normal you never even notice it, but is always there ready!!!! Trapr
  23. NO!!! lightening the bolt does NOT help in cycling of low power rounds!!!! This is interweb misinformation or a misunderstanding of what bolt lightening actually does. it actually hinders it, leave the bolt alone and shoot it just as it is with the ammo you want to use, if it works great leave it alone, if it doesn't then you will need to move up to 3 dram or heavier ammo. If your desire is to shoot light loads, with 100% reliability, then a gas gun is what you should be using. Benelli's work of of inertia which means it needs energy, sometimes they will work just fine with light loads, my GF uses 2 3/4 dram stuff in her M2, I personally don't use anything less than 3 dram, in my Benelli's. proper lubrication will go a long way towards ensuring the gun will run especially with lighter loads. My SBE, has the standard weight recoil spring, and a stock bolt and runs reliably with 3 dram loads, when I use them in practice, its also well lubed . trapr
