  1. I know you hear lots of people say this, BUT!!! This is the best multigun SHOOTING match in the country, years ago outlaw matches were hands down the best matches you could go to, and USPSA was struggling to put together a decent event. Now the outlaw matches are getting way too silly with trying to outdo each other, poor target presentation, crazy, dangerous stage design, running for runnings sake, and prop guns that don't work but weigh heavily in the stage outcome. I waited until USPSA put three back to back matches together that had great reviews from people whose opinions I knew were backed by years of experience, that happened 2 years ago, last year was my first USPSA MG nats, and this years match was BETTER!!! The lack of a big rulebook has allowed outlaw matches to get out of hand, and turn a shooting competition into something other than a SHOOTING competition. If thats what you want then by all means go shoot them, go play Ranger indoctrination, go play Sniper indoctrination. I want to shoot multigun!!! You can go to this match and be pretty confident in knowing what to expect because the rules don't allow them to get "silly" with stage design, or target presentation, or scoring. When I was asked last year what was the best match I shot, the answer was USPSA MG nats, the answer will be the same this year. When I'm asked what match someone should shoot for a first time match, the answer will be the same. 5-6 years ago the answer would have been an outlaw match, but the silliness has gotten way out of hand, and I'm tired of trying to get people to see the errors of their ways. So USPSA, Phil, RO's, MD, you guys have hit a home run,........its good to see USPSA back on top, with common sense stages, target presentation, and an honest to goodness SHOOTING match!!!! Trapr
  2. I use the IC choke thast came with my 1301 for slugs, I really have no use for a choke more open than IC for 3 gun, tighter sure but not more open. if a shot is closer than 15yds I just "try" and concentrate more on the target and follow thru on the shot to ensure a good hit. Your 1301 should come with an Optima HP choke in IC, its a good all around starting point, I would probably not step up to a LM, given the performance of my IC choke in the gun. Just bypass LM and go straight to M, if I need more choke. Trapr
  3. The "glorification" of our sport by the vocal minority, is nothing more than drum beating to try and get more people to notice THEM, so THEY can make more money from YOU!! Our sport is politically incorrect, socially unacceptable by mainstream media and public, and is NEVER going to be like NASCAR, or OLYMPICS, or XGAMES, or anything else that is acceptable to the masses of the World. Face it we are a niche community, a niche sport, we are a miniscule percentage of a percentage point. Sure we can drive some innovation that we will benefit from, and others may benefit from, but as a whole 3 gun/multigun is nothing compared to the average gun owner in America, if we were such a driving force,.... then the highest selling gun would be a 1911 or Glock or AR or Benelli M1/2 or something other than a HIGH POINT!!!!! The only thing you can control is yourself, and for some of you thats a full time job, (just kiddin") since the only thing you can control is you, then take responsibility for your actions and READ the F'in rules. STOP trying to get everyone else to attend to your shortcomings. KMiller said he's shot the same equipment since he started shooting, basically he has. I normally shoot in the most heavily convoluted division there is HM or HO, but I also shoot TO, 1X and Standard division, so I need to know all the rulesets except for OPEN, and that may change because I was offered an open SG to shoot the other day!! It isn't hard to read, and its well worth the effort. RTFR!!!!!! stop complaining, go volunteer ( by definition), practice, buy good equipment, support those that support us, and RTFR!!!!! Trapr
  4. I like Tactical Unmagnified Division,.......come and shoot the TUD, TUD rocks, TUD's growing, ah, TU man!!! No TU dude!!! Trapr
  5. they covered it so well I didn't even post!!! what are the odds of all three of us agreeing to anything??????
  6. headworked, That is really good non-FC buck shot its what I shoot 98% of the time, and as for chokes I use what ever is in the gun when I need to use buck. if its an all buck stage then whatever choke gave me the best patterns, you should ALWAYS pattern your ammo, don't just take someones word for what to use, that said, in my 1301 I use IC, in my other B shotguns I use LM. 7. Willi, for weakhand all you really need to do is remove the sharp edges, my personal 1301 has a lot less done to it than the ones I do for others simply because I don't know how they will load. It seems to be the norm for 2's, 4's, 6's and now 8's;P to remove a whole lot from the front so the thumb can maintain contact until the last possible moment, but it also tends to make the gun ugly to me, the serial number placement on the 1301's kind of keeps you from removing too much so it tends to keep a good look to it when the work is done. 8. I have let a spring go as short as 6" past the end of the mag tube, HOWEVER when I am really hard on the stroke I have been able to do it faster than the spring can get a round out and on to the lifter. My normal for Novas is 9" past the tube end, and no less than 8". One of your countrymen asked me when I was there last, why their Nova wasn't kicking one out of the tube consistently, and his spring was 3" past the end of the tube so I told him to replace it with a new spring, his reply was "but it loads so nicely" .......my reply to him was then by all means don't change the spring. 9. to me its not a question of open or not its a question of 1x or TO, and since the lens seems to magnify the FO/reticle to me its a magnifying optic, whether you're magnifying the target or not is irrelevant by my peewee brain. BTW, ericm how many guttersnipe hunts were you taken on as a young new mexican??? oh and we're going pdog hunting in SoDak, so call me!!! Trapr
  10. I agree with Stealthy, if it uses a lens then its an optic, of some sort??? but whether it would be legal in 1x or not is the question. As far as usefulness it looks like it has merit. Much like the B Jones sight for m1a's and such, if it uses a lens it should be classed as an optic, for our sport. IMHO trapr
  11. JJ, I think the lens actually magnifies??? so its not a 1x optic Trapr
  12. As Steve posted federal flite control has come to be the default buckshot load for most everyone, HOWEVER!!! the original reason it was used was due to us shooting in IPSC practical shotgun matches where the use of noshoots was prevalent. here in the US, where the sight of a no shoot on a SG stage, is rare and often easy to deal with without resorting to flitecontrol rounds, the NEED for the extra expense and time to locate then is really not needed. Plus they need to be AIMED when used inside 15yds because the pattern is so tight. Normal 8 -9 pellet buffered buck will do quite well inside 20yds, especially when having a pattern will help rather than a group!! From my patterning notes, FC buck does 8" at 20yds, 6" at 15, and 4'"at 10. Fed LR (nonFC)buck does about 2" larger at the same distances, I use it for most everything and save the FC buck for special needs. BTW, Fiocchi 00 buck was patterned the other day, 1300fps and it provided great patterns out to 15yds or so, I instructed my student at the time to just try and purchase 100rds of FC buck and use the Fiocchi for general use, the 100 rounds of FC should last her years considering the lack of tight no shoots used here in the US. In short, go buy some good 1300fps or less 00 buck, pattern it and then lay your hands on a small qty. of FC buck and your good to go!! trapr
  13. It is ONLY new to the USA, its been shot heavily overseas, where they do shoot real practical shotgun....so the waiting for a verdict from the jury has been in for about a year now. It works and it wins, everything else you said was spot on!! Trapr
  14. for those of you wanting a lower profile bolt drop paddle, the one RNT makes for Benelli's works very well. You can get them from Tim Ubl at Taccom, or Chris Patty at CPWSA, or Brownells. pics of one mounted can be found on FB, Red Neck Tactical trapr
  15. yeah, why are you posting when you should be shooting, bro??? are you that bored!! Trapr
  16. STI91, i was not directing the comment at you if it seemed that way I apologize. I just hear those same comments from so many people about different guns rifles pistols, SG's. why some people feel that they can run cheap ammo without any regard to functioning is very frustrating, especially when you're trying to help them figure out why they are having gun issues. A race car driver isn't going to put regular gas in the race car, a top fueler isn't going to, a pro basketballer isn't going to "practice" on a neighborhood court with a crappy floor and loose basket, a pro baseball player isn't going to have half speed pitches thrown to him to practice hitting, now I realize despite what you may have paid for or heard on various forums, we are not PRO shooters but the equipment we use IS the same. If we want it to run the same we have to feed it what it needs not what we want. If we want to practice emergency action drills, for when our gun does go down then by all means put crap ammo in it, we'll get plenty of practice clearing guns and getting them back to shooting. BTW, Mark put a source for the case gauge on here, there is another located in AZ somewhere that I remember I just can't remember the name, they also make flame etched SG extension tubes and caps if any one knows the source please post it here. Trapr
  17. stop buying CHEAP ammo and then blaming the gun for not working!!! I just got back from a class I taught and we used 1oz, loads at 1100fps, 1 1/8 oz at 1040fps, .75oz at 1140fps and everything ran, they were top quality loads. Rem sts and Win AA, and reloads. The old adage about garbage in and garbage out holds true. you spent good money on a great gun and now you want to run cheap ammo?????? the only thing we noticed was that a person of small stature (women and kids) need to take an aggressive stance to run the gun, but then the same holds true for Benelli's look at Katie Harris and Katie Francis they both break the leading knee to give the gun some resistance to work with. Cheap american ammo will run sometimes, cheap european ammo tends to not run at all, there are a couple of companies that make case checkers just like we use for case gauging our rifle and pistol ammo, I highly recommend you spend the couple of bucks they cost and see what kind of crap ammo is out there.
  18. Kurt and I routinely change lens tint depending on the daylight conditions, for me what ever the lightest tint allows me to see without squinting. My tints are clear, brownish yellow, brownish caramel in color
  19. Lubing the outside if the mag tube where the spring slides as well as the inside of the plastic sleeve that holds The spring can use oil. I discovered that 1oz loads of European manufacture even though they are 2.75 dram can cause issues with functioning, I think it has to do with the powder pressure curve, and burn rate. Euro powders on the cheaper stuff seems to burn dirtier or more incomplete than US powders. STI91, I have an LM choke that patterns birdshot fine, and I will use it but if the stage calls for any slugs I will use the IC. The IC could easily be used for everything and then just get a M for tighter patterns
  20. Brian, I have no doubt there are damn good "new generation" shooters out there with the right attitude. Tyler is a great example, as is the rest of the AMU, and lots of the fine folks you have up there in MN. sadly the the vocal few seem to dominate and overwhelm the silent majority, much as in politics. At some point this needs to end!! trapr
  21. As a former Military weapons inst. the whole nose to charging handle thing is done simply to provide a reference for the "SAME" cheek weld everytime, which is vewy vewy important when dealing with irons. I use it, and always have but that is because I had to teach it that way and now its ingrained in me, Kurt is right it does cause you to crane your neck forward or tilt your head forward, I use a rear sight that I can move forward a notch or two to eliminate scratching my glasses that I use for the same reason that Kurt does, I'm old!! I also do this when I shoot my 308's, and of course I get questioned about bloody noses, it doesn't happen. The best point Kurt made was the one about picking an aperture size that doesn't DIM the amount of light around you, Too small and it can cause a perfectly visible target from out of the sights to be invisible once behind your sights. Trapr
  22. I replaced a full size BCG and buffer system with all JP parts and it made a world of difference in the handling, recoil impulse, and splits. Highly recommend JP low mass 308 bcg. trapr
  23. Well I think post #94 by Mr. P, pretty much says a lot I can agree with, and a retort on post#97 pretty much solidifies what I already knew, about the "new" generation of multigunners. What used to be, "let me help" or "can I help" or "what can I do to help" has become,.................."what do I get out of it", or "whats in it for me" or "thats not my job" or "i'm too busy" Too much "expected" and not enough "offer", sadly a lot of the more experienced of us are getting burned, or backstabbed by the "new generation" even after we had "offered" to help with them getting started in this sport. Sad state of affairs, on a side note Jesse you stated in a previous topic that 3GN wasn't making any money and the originators of it hadn't received compensation for anything, you made the comment like you had firsthand info on the accounts and balances, has that changed??? are they making money now??? Oh and I made my opinions to the OP way back on page one!! Trapr
