Mr. Holmes had an issue at SMM3G a couple years back, I believe Trapr

yeah it is quite tedious to undo the wilderness belt and slide everything off of it, after every stage??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Trapr
-
Yes, Bryan. my shotgun carriers clip onto my belt, and as long as I put them on the belt correctly they have never come off, twice I have clipped them on over the belt and pant and one time it came off while making a grab during stage and one time it came off after the stage was over but still not when it was supposed to. all the other gear, mag holders (wilderness as well) holsters, pistol mag pouches all get threaded thru. as Kurt stated if its tied to you it stays with you, and even he has "borrowed" one or two of my clip on carriers. the best "combat keepers" ever made are your own belt loops!!! trapr

possible when you "cleaned" it you damaged the crown!!! Trapr

Best for Quadload - Benelli Super Vinci or Remington Versa Max?
bigbrowndog replied to uhcoog1's topic in Shotgun - Technical
I was actually thinking of which shotguns would be best for 2's and 4's the other day as I get asked this a lot!! the 3 best are VM, Super Vin, and SBE, actually the very best is the Nova/SN but then you're stuck with a pump gun. By my thinking the VM is good but requires more work and is the least reliable of the 3, the Super Vin is next but the loading port is a bit narrow, there are some small parts used in construction that are as of yet unproven and it requires a lot more work to get it to the level that the SBE already has, a lot of Vinci/SV have been butchered to get to what the SBE does with little more than a simple port job. The SBE is a bit heavier due to the metal used in its construction, it also seems to be immune to the Benelli issues of barrel/magtube interface due to the barrel actually being part of the receiver. It has been used, abused, and come out shining after years and years of use, so while many feel the "newer" guns are fashizzle, the old SBE/SBE2's require less work, work longer, seem to recoil less and provide great reliability. The SBE will reliably shoot the same loads any M1 or M2 will. Trapr -
stop hitting the bolt release, is the easiest answer!!! the RNT bolt drop paddle is the next easiest, its made for Benelli's but fits the 1301's as well, it makes the button a bit more streamline and lower profile. you can see a pic of it on the Red Neck Tactical FB page. If you can't find it text me and I'll forward you a pic. 5124965386. trapr

I prefer 1/2" shorter than I would normally on a SG used for hunting or other shooting sports, due to us having to rapidly throw the gun to our shoulder and hit stuff, having it a bit shorter allows for a more snag free jump to the shoulder. trapr

An easy way (or at least to me)to look at DRAM, is to think about it as you would Hit Factor on a stage, it is the balance between payload weight and powder charge, decrease one and you have to increase the other to keep the DRAM equal. much the same way you can figure a needed HF for a stage by playing with points or speed to get to the same value. DRAM value, is an easy way to determine what loads YOUR gun runs reliably with you driving it.

I had to shoot some of my old standard loads for my Benelli at the M3G match the other day and the first sg rounds had me bouncig all over the place, I apparently had gotten used to the 2.5 dram stuff and switching to 3.25 dram stuff was noticeable. Trapr

REm STS 1 1/8oz at 1050 runs really well in mine, it is a 2.5 dram load and takes full size poppers over out to 25 yards. it is my favorite load to use. Trapr

Wynn, folks have the target, if you just require the 2 hits why not just have 2 plates and no spinner?!?!?! If the spinner has to be used as a target, for whatever reason??? folks want competitors to "spin it" but then they don't want you to use buck or slugs or whatever. So if you're going to stipulate what ammo, then just stipulate a hit on each plate with a spin, then everyone has to wait, the required??? amount of time for the second plate to present itself for the spinner to rotate, instead of stop the rotation. Which brings an interesting physics problem up, MD/RM's don't want us using buckshot/slugs, but birdshot out of a specialized wad, or 1 7/8oz loads at 1300-1600 fps is OK???? seems to me the harder than lead stuff and prairie storm stuff is likely to do MORE "damage" to the target than any low recoil 1oz buckshot load ever would, but hey what do I know. Trapr

This thought hit me the other day,...........you have two plates on this thing, you could just require the competitor to hit each plate AND cause it to fully rotate. this would eliminate the gaming or use of "special" ammo to get it to rotate because you need to rotate it and you need to hit each plate, not just ONE, simple painting of each plate during reset would confirm the required hits??? oh wait, I just said we need to paint steel for each shooter,.......................nevermind that'll never work!?!?!?!?!? if you just want one more round then get a +1 added to your extension, the NEED for loading one on the carrier is no longer legitimate as the vast majority of matches have no restrictions on tube length, and require only a set amount of rounds at the start. The whole loading the carrier thing is a dinosaur left over from the days of rules stating mag tubes can only extend 1" beyond the barrel, and barrels could only be 22" max. Trapr

Anschutz 54 Ruger 10-22 with a good barrel, Hammerli or Lothar/Walther and a KIDD trigger both shoot 1" groups at 100 with basic crap ammo, and with good ammo they are amazing Trapr

excellent match. with very good shooting challenges. I know they have an uphill road to travel but so long as thought is put into the stages and real shooting challenges are used over carnival stuff this match will do nothing but get better. thanks again for the effort Dillen and Ken. RNT will see you next time, wherever that is. Trapr

Best red-dot for open class shotgun
bigbrowndog replied to openclassterror's topic in Shotgun - Technical
A very good and combat proven, red dot, that is the same relative size as the fastfire, delta point genre of sights is made by the "originator" of of those sights. SHIELD MINI SIGHT from the UK, This sight is currently in use by British SF forces. They are very tough sights, come in a variety of dot sizes and armoured mounts to protect the sight from abuse. James White is the contact point, james@shieldpsd.com Trapr -
I would disagree on the safety ergonomics issue!!! it may not be where it is on the Benelli Auto's or VM, but it is the same as the Benelli Pumps and no one has ever said that it is in the wrong place?? Its just different, not wrong or right???? the biggest issue I have is that it is relatively easy to fire the gun with it there when you're fingers are cold or you're trying to go faster than you should. as for the "suicide tube dumps" i don't know what that means?????????????? Felt recoil is a personal judgement!!! IMO the 1301 is NOT more harsh than a Benelli M2, and the fact that it will shoot the same ammo as the VM will, allow it to produce less recoil by using lighter ammo. It is also lighter than a VM, almost as light as a comparable Benelli, which translates to less upper body fatigue and arm stress, and less muscle tension to get moving and stop moving. As for not best in any area???? cost to purchase and make competitive seems to be a winner. trapr
