  1. So then a 1/4" nail head placed at 25yds would be ok?????? Excellent!!!!!!!!! I think you hit the nail on the head. trapr
  2. not normal grease it tends to be to heavy and can slow bolt speed, if you mix lithium grease with oil (50/50) you will get a good runny slurry mix, this works well on the rails and cam pin. Trapr
  3. that particular clamp is notorious for movement. trapr
  4. Don't clip it, !!!!! you can put it between the jaws of a set of pliers and crush it, this will make it shorter and weaken it slightly. just use one hand to close the pliers and close tight, ONCE, and then stop. If you ruin the spring, its the same one used on the M1/M2 so its no big deal to replace. the shell stop on a SBE does seem to come out more than on an M1/M2 but its because the gun uses 3.5" shells so the pivot point is different and the shell stop is longer than the M1/M2, or at least it should be. If the dealer took the gun apart they could have easily misaligned the parts, and the parts could have come that way from the distributor if they took it apart, or maybe it was a friday afternoon or monday morning gun and it simply got put together wrong. As I said earlier the spring is a very light spring, if you need to push really hard on the bolt release to get it to do its job, then something is misaligned. My guess would be something in the trigger group/bolt release relationship trapr
  5. think of it as you would an AR bolt carrier group, lube the cam pin, the rails, the lugs, all of that can be done without having to take the gun apart, even oiling the cam pin, you just need to be able to aim the oil into the spot. Brownells "FREE" oil from match shooter packs, FP10, automatic tranny fluid, synthetic motor oil, etc. just don't use any of the really light stuff that flows like water or something you'd drink. there is a shotgun oiling tutorial on the redneck tactical FB page, with pictures and other stuff. 6. if the spring is not placed properly in the gun or its managed to move from its normal location, .......which can be done. it might cause enough bind to keep shells from exiting the magtube properly, and also cause the shell stop to not function properly and allow rounds to slip past. i've never seen it,.... but the spring can be moved very easily if the right tool or twig gets into the right spot, the spring is a relatively light spring. Now the bolt release is the button on the shell stop, when you mention "tab" what are you refering to?? do you have an aftermarket "tab" installed to allow more surface area on the "button" like an RNT tab, or DMW, or Arredondo??? Your lifter is "flipped" by the bolt moving back forward into battery, not by pushing in on the bolt release. If your bolt is locked back, when it goes forward there is a small notch that contacts the "carrier dog" (shark dorsal fin looking thing) in the trigger group that cams forward and down and lifts (flips) the lifter. If there is binding there it can be from the silver tab just in front of the trigger on the right side of the gun which does 2 things, when pushed in. 1) if gun is empty it allows you to lock the bolt to the rear. 2) if ammo in magtube it will move the shell stop out of the way and allow a round out of the magtube and onto the lifter. It is quite easy to get the bolt lock/shell release (silver tab) out of position with its relationship to the shell stop/bolt release, this can cause you to have to use way too much pressure than needed to operate the bolt release/shell stop. it may also cause excessive binding on the lifter and keep it from operating properly, which in turn could cause the incomplete bolt cycling you seem to be having. Have you removed your trigger group from the gun?? Have you taken the trigger group apart?? Have you replaced the lifter with a welded up one?? Have you removed the bolt release/shell stop?? .................. if so you could have easily gotten the parts out of the proper positioning, its easy to do and easy to remedy if thats the case. trapr
  7. just as a thought!!!! see if the Nova magtube threads match your fine threads, Benelli may know the pitch of the two?? call gunsmithing and ask for Carter Martin. the Nova magtube uses fine threads and may match up, just sayin' trapr
  8. Ah yes the recent future past............ Everyone knows everything originates here in the US, 2 and 4 loading didn't come on strong until 5 years ago, yep you're absolutely right!!!! there is a town in the Texas panhandle called Dumas, too!!! just like a 12-19 year old kid saying "yeah, I know" all the time, we all "know" everything when we're young?!?!?!?!? So you're right all the old farts, don't know nuthin', don't confuse education with intelligence, or experience with expertise!!!! You can go to school, but it doesn't make you smart!!! they shot a monkey into space, but it doesn't make it an astronaut!!!! You can buy a pro card but it doesn't make you a pro!! You can see something for the first time but it doesn't mean you discovered it!!! You can be a badass local shooter but it doesn't mean you won't get your butt kicked by some old guy in major match!!! You can see something on youtube, but it doesn't make it a reality!!! Trapr
  9. did you take the bolt apart and maybe forget to put the inertia spring back in??? or did it fall out without you noticing??? it happens......... also is it possible that you got the recoil spring tube slightly ascew??? torqued to one side a bit??? this will hamper full travel. also check your recoil spring piston in the tube did it get dropped or slightly scratched and now drags, slightly???? If the gun isn't cycling back far enough it will most likely be something binding?? did you possibly drive the shell catch pin too deeply and it drags across the bottom of the bolt?? Is the tail of the bolt cracked?? or is a rivet loose?? or is the pin holding it in place broken or not seated properly?? If it was working fine one day and you took it apart,..... most likely you forgot something??? sometimes its a really simple thing. If it was working properly one day and it sat unused and then suddenly now it won't work,.......most likely something broke or froze up??? Trapr
  10. by "not cycle at all" do you mean everything in the cycling function didn't happen or just one part of the function??? if nothing at all, check to see if your inertia spring is still there or broken!! Trapr
  11. I agree with Firearm Feline, Benelli's run much more reliably with 3 dram loads or heavier. if your desire is to shoot lighter loads reliably then your gun choice should be different. if your desire is to have a reliable, easy to load, light, accurate, SG..... then give it what it needs. When i shot a Benelli they only got 3.25dram loads for match ammo, and 3 dram for practice this helps eliminate or minimize gun issues from being slightly out of a good shooting position and give the gun enough "oomph" to ensure proper cycling. My SBE has the standard weight spring and has reliably run 3 dram loads whenever I shot them, but I don't use them in major matches, also remember "proper and adequate lubrication" not minimal lubrication!!! trapr BTW, Mr. Rose the front sight base on the Ruger is working out great, thanks again!!!!
  12. The above info is about right, full size target at 100 should be MAX, and 4" clay at 15-20. with everything else brought to scale for whatever distance. Basically if you use the average front bead on a shotgun and make the target so that it is the same size relationship to the target you should be spot on!!! As Elmer Keith once said, if its smaller than your front sight then you need to get closer. Trapr
  13. There may be "tutorials" on you tube by some folks that claim to know everything, however a lot of shotguns have been ruined by those folks as well. Just ask their gunsmiths and those that know them, lot of folks THINK they know what they're doing,......choose your source for gun butchering carefully. the difference between ok and too much is a very fine line. Go slow, leave the power tools alone unless you KNOW what you're doing, and remember to ask the right people for advice, those folks normally do not mind giving a helping hand, or taking a phone call. Trapr
  14. yeah, and you should add really tight no shoots to all of the birdshot targets, and.............. lets make it more stages and more rounds and lots tougher shots and........................sorry sarcasm button was stuck!!!!! trapr
  15. here is an excerpt fro the Brenneke website, BTW, Mr. Brenneke IS the father of the modern slug. He devised a streamlined projectile with a weight-forward design. He added six slanted ribs around the front of the slug, and screwed a felt wad onto its tail. After countless hours of testing, trial and error and modification, in 1898 the first Brenneke slug was introduced. It was an immediate success. Moving the weight to the front of the slug provided stability, preventing the projectile from tumbling in flight. It resulted in accuracy never before achieved from a smoothbore barrel. The ribs, contrary to popular opinion, are not designed to act like rifling in a rifle barrel, but compress to allow the slug to easily pass through a choked shotgun barrel. The massive weight of the projectile—close to 500 grains—resulted in an incredible amount of energy transferred to the target. The Brenneke® Classic Magnum produced today, similar in many ways to the original 1898 model, generates 2460 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle. so while the ribs "may" impart some spin while in flight, they were NEVER DESIGNED to do so, for those of you interested in gun history the Brenneke story is an interesting one. 16. no rotation provided by the "lands" 6-8moa group would be acceptable trapr
  17. equity on a prize table is very difficult to do, but it can be done. Jay i think you did an outstanding job on prize distribution, many shooters think of only the "guns" when they look at prize distribution but there are many other high value prizes out there. I know I have walked by guns, for scopes, suppressors, and other stuff I needed for projects. But the guns always seem to be eye catching items that others use to compare prize tables. On the subject of prize tables, i'd rather shoot a really good match, with outstanding stages and real shooting skillset challenges, without a prize table than one with little to no thought given on the stages and shooting challenges with a good prize table. Which is one of the reasons why we "RNT" go to Europe to shoot many matches, the other big reason is we have lots of good friends and consequently always have a really good time. Trapr
  18. Neither do unsponsored!! just go the file route instead of "dremel" route and you'll do fine. We were filing Benelli's Waaaaayyyy before being a sponsored shooter was even a concern for anyone. Trapr
  19. JJ, I 've had the fusion 1600's and now the fusion mile ones and I LOVE them!!! they are very nice and have performed very well under a variety of conditions, I used the the 1600's for a few years hunting and multigunning and could always get a reliable reading from either the target or if it was too small, the surrounding vegetation. the same can be said for the mile version, I got a verified 1600yd reading off of a target the other day during a long range class. the glass is very good for general use as binoculars as well. they go with me when ever i'm hunting or shooting. The only time I couldn't get a reading was when trying to shoot the laser thru the windshield of the truck. Trapr
  20. jrbet83, I am aware of some upside down2/4 loaders that are removing more of the front of the loading port and smoothing the transition into the fore end, so as to ease the sharp rise from the front of the loading port to the fore end. Trapr
  21. Not sure on the Stoeger route???? even Team Stoeger shooters seem to be running Benelli's instead!!! This is what I was told by someone keeping an eye on a team stoeger shooter Trapr
  22. The guys did a great job, the stages were challenging, but doable by all competitors, it has been a real joy to go shoot matches that are designed with common sense shooting challenges that test real shooting skills that everyone should be able to perform. The RO's and Match hierarchy are to be commended, I am glad to have supported the match in previous years and sorry that it took this long for me to attend. I have decided to stop shooting matches that I have found to be silly in stage design, or have lost their way in the race to make things "bigger" and "better" and "harder". IMO our sport needs to test the skills that seem to have been forgotten or lost in the race to make things fast and flashy. The four matches I have been to this year do just that, USPSA MG nats., Pikes Peak shotgun, Midwest 3 gun and Nordic Components shotgun championships, I hope the match organizers stay the course, of sound stage design and realistic shooting skills, I know that I intend to be back next year!!! Trapr
  23. Sounds like you forgot the chicken blood rites sacrifice!!! Trapr
