  1. Whoops, totally added Shadow to the original post's SP01 info in my head. You are correct of course, Shadows don't have firing pin blocks. My description of how to remove the firing pin is correct at least, lol.
  2. With a regular Shadow, removing the firing pin is as easy as pushing a small punch onto the firing pin depressing it far enough that you can slide the rear plate down and out, keeping your hand over it so the firing pin and spring don't launch.
  3. An easier way to remove the staked pins from the hammer is to put it on a piece of wood and drive the pins into the wood. The hammer is better supported doing it this way, and you are also driving down instead of sideways like in the vice, leading to less chance of the punch drifting and scoring the side of the hammer. On a regular SP01 Shadow there is only a spring detent on the left side safety, the right side safety is the same as in this thread. Great post, and great photos, I'm sure many people will be eating this up.
  4. I use a large pail, throw about 400 rounds in, spray with One Shot, shake, spray again, shake, spray one more time, shake, and then into the case feeder. Yeah it's filthy in the feeder, but I tumble my loaded rounds anyhow. I clean the dies every 10,000 rounds or so.
  5. been thinking of building an open gun for years, but always hated the optics we had to choose from. Luckily I saw the images before you removed them. Eagerly awaiting a production date. I think you have this of ouf the park. I also think you may have found a solution for those wanting a good RDS on a carry pistol, but aren't happy with the slide mounted options. This is pretty low profle and should be workable with a lots of ccw type holsters.
  6. three or four of those foam tipped envelope licker things filled with lube, and attached at different points on the tube would accomplish the same thing without becoming a stickypad for bugs
  7. so you say $100 for the motor etc from Ebay, but how much for the VFD? How much are the offset bearings?
  8. wait a minute, so that's a Super 1050???? did you replace the linkage with an offset bearing? I was under the impression the Supers couldn't be converted to gear drive, just the Ponses Warren (sp) one. But knowing how you make stuff, I guess anything is possible,
  9. man, necro post. So we ended up trying out the liquid tumbler first way back when, they had some SS media almost exactly the same as the stuff people use in the small ultrasonic cleaners for brass. 20 minutes in the big tank and the brass looked like new. 1hr, and it was destroyed. Absolutely worn out basically. Timing is important. Not even sure if the stuff at 20 minutes would have been ok to reload (we just let it go longer to see what would happen). The big one that looks like my Midway tumbler we put two 5 gallon pails of brass into along with 50 lbs of corn cob media (one bottle of Flitz added before hand). 30 minutes, clean brass. 1hr clean brass (no cleaner). So we ran 10 buckets of brass through over 6 hrs (seperating takes awhile). Definitely worth it if you have access to one.
  10. Mr. Morris, thanks a ton for that pic, I had no idea that was even there. Now could you perhaps explain the custom addition that we see there?????? I see you've powered your RL1050. I'm assuming you've cut the base so that it can just keep going and going???????
  11. using a Dremel tool or a hacksaw or similar, cut a case in half and place it in the swaging station, turn it so you can see the swager going in, adjust it to your preferred depth.
  12. so I just saw the DAA cataloge, are there going to be parts available, or full on feeders available from only DAA, or will we still be able to order them from Rick?
  13. Well holy crap. Thanks dude! Totally different now. Only one small problem is it changes how I view at home as well. So I have to switch the view depending on where I'm viewing from. Strange that it wouldn't cache it on my BB or recognize it automatically.
  14. Still having the issues. Checked from the wifes BB and it also displays wrong. Weird.
  15. So I have tried both my BB browser and Opera Mini and both of them truncate the view of threads when I check them. Not sure if there is a setting in the forum software for Mobile view compatibility or not? For some reason I can't scroll to the right, and as a result only see about 2/3s of the screen. Any ideas?

    CZ Thumb Safety

Its all about the pivot point 1911 safeties pivot in a different spot and are easier to keep down with your thumb than CZ ones. Even with my thumb deliberately on the safety, as it should be, my support hand often pushes it up. Big hands don't help. Nor does 15 years of shooting Berettas with a really really high thumbs forward grip. With dedicated training specifically on the re learning my grip, I could probably get used to the safeties. But its far easier to just put flush ones on and ignore them.

    CZ Thumb Safety

did you put the spring behind the non moving detent on the right side? I had to do that with one of my guns previously as the frame had a small machining flaw that allowed that detent to move back, which let the right side safety fall off.

    CZ Thumb Safety

They are Production legal as they are also considered the old style from the 75 I think. They are also listed as optional factory parts from CZ UB. I run them on all 3 of my Shadows and love them. The CZ's safeties pivot from the rear which makes them go on extremely easily. I've never liked that one thing about them. With the flush ones I just shoot without touching them at all. With a 1911 I have no problem, and yes I keep my thumb on the safety, but the meat of my support hand would still push the CZ or Tanfoglio ones up.
  19. So this is probably a dumb question, and I should know better, but which is up for the springs we get from Henning for our Tanfoglio mags? there isn't a distinct bend to indicate which end goes up into the follower. I've tried both ways, and the mags work fine, but I'm sure one way is the right way.
  20. teh hourglass shape is indeed as you describe. whatever it's doing, I don't like it, some people may, I don't. I prefer the RCBS die, as stated, hence my reason for making this die up. I've since done 25 for various people here and on other forums. so I guess while we might be in the minority, there are others who feel the same way.
  21. I've never had an issue with bullet setback, and yes I do know that the case is slightly smaller in diameter below the bullet. However, I find the Dillon die over does this. Changing nothing else in my press other than the sizing die and the cases will not fit the Wilson gauge. Throw the RCBS back in and it's good to go.
  22. I like the ladder as angle adjustment. Very high tech.
  23. Not sure why people would want to see the hourglass shape. I do know that if I use the Dillon die in place of the RCBS that finished rounds will not go into my Wilson 9mm case gauge.
