  1. in my opinion, the ASR is way better (than both duty loop and teklok) for holsters as it spreads the weight out more with two contact points. ASR and tek lok's come with spacers, guess the duty loop doesn't, or perhaps they were missing?
  2. Yep bad habit of mine, costs me every once in a while.
  3. you don't, you round to the nearest 1/4 as you said your turret is in 1/4 moa increments. so the .8 would be closest to .75 or 3/4 moa or three 1/4 clicks. again if you're dialing for elevation, just dial to the number you're supposed to use, no need to worry about how many clicks it is. the clicks, and the math, come into play when you need to make adjustments, such as when your spotter says you're hitting a foot low.
  4. see what size groups you're shooting at 300 yards. let's say they're 3" groups which is around one moa. that would theoretically indicate you could shoot 6" groups at 600 yards which is the same approx one moa. but as you noted, wind and other elements come into play so the effect of any miscalculations or bad shooting is magnified such that one moa groups at 300 could be two moa (12") groups or worse at 600 yds. but if you're shooting 12" groups at 600 yards and your target is 2' x 2' you should be hitting it pretty regularly.
  5. AT 500 it says the drop is 37 inches and to come up 7.1 MOA, do I then just add 3.8 clicks to the 400 yd 3.3. Yes but the easier way is just to dial to 3.3 (which probably 3.25 is the closest since you have 1/4 clicks) for 400. And then rotate your dial to 7.0 (closest 1/4 setting to 7.1) for the 500 yard shot. Of course, your turret will have to be set at zero at your 300 yard zero. just think back to basic algebra. one moa is roughly (1.05 as noted above) an inch at 100 yards, two inches at 200 and 12 inches at 1200 yards. so if you're shooting at a 600 yard target and your spotter says you're a foot (12") low, you'd dial an additional two moa (so eight 1/4 moa clicks). Likewise, if you're shooting at a 1200 yard target and the spotter says you're a foot low, you'd dial one moa up (so four 1/4 moa clicks). as you probably already know, i heartily encourage you to actually shoot at the various distances you would be doing for hunting or competition or whatever and get precise actual data, as your theoretical trajectory may be somewhat different.
  6. L10 is actually a good division. Makes you think a little more (planning reloads), and there aren't too many people, myself included, who wouldn't benefit from some more reloading practice. Plus if your carry or duty weapon is a .40, you're probably more competitive in L10 than against all the 9mm's in Production.
  7. no i gladly let her pay the bills because i don't feel like dealing with the hassle, so of course she sees the bills and no one is hiding anything from the other. i just had to keep from laughing cuz what she was complaining about was the tip of the iceberg. but thanks for the judgmental note that didn't add anything to this thread.
  8. so I ordered a pretty nice precision rifle. deposit of $800 hit the credit card statement. wifey scolded me and asked me what it was. I didn't have the heart (or courage) to tell her it was ONLY the deposit, so I said I bought another gun and of course she wasn't happy that another $800 gun was going into the safe... not sure what i'll do when the balance hits...
  9. wish they'd do it like IDPA, study up on your own, take a pre-test, then the course itself is only one full day, part class and part range. weekends are precious! and if one has to drive 2-3 hours for the class, 2 day classes make it 2x the hassle.
  10. i'm using a NF 20 MOA unimount on my 24" .308 ar-10 and NF 5.5-22. make sure you threadlock the mount's knobs... i had a zero MOA mount on prior .308 AR-10 and that same scope ran out just past 900yds.
  11. if i understand correctly, and i am a LONG way from being a gunsmith, slidelock reloads give the chance to damage the ejector when slamming the new mag home with slide locked back. when shooting Limited it's a moot point as noted above as there is generally ample opportunity to reload between target arrays or the like while moving and not shooting. where it becomes a problem with a 2011 is if one shoots L-10, IDPA or some steel matches that only let you load 10.
  12. for 40 minor, in my brazos edge, the #10 worked perfectly for me, after also trying 11 and 12#. just to clarify, i was using a separate guide rod and spring, not a recoil master with the minor loads. brazos (and i think others) has a pretty nice drop in match trigger kit (sear, spring, hammer, etc but not the actual trigger) that i installed on two of my sti's. it's frankly not a nice as the trigger job that brazos did on my edge, but a definite improvement over stock.
  13. I did ask uspsa and they specifically said the hood on the bladetech WRS had to be engaged. especially in Limited, I don't see how one guy can use an open holster with no retention but if he uses a WRS he has to have the hood engaged, but that's the ruling from uspsa.
  14. i used to scoff at everyone using buggies to tote around uspsa gear, but now that i got one for 3gun (jogging stroller i converted), i always use it for uspsa etc. lets you bring a little more stuff and keeps it off the dirt and dust.
  15. a smoothbore isn't the best tool for the slug job by a long shot. i really like matches that let one choose between pistol and shotgun for slug targets. as noted above, let folks play to their (and their arsenal's) strengths. i can't imagine too many folks would reach for their 10-round shottie, shooting slugs, at 20-100+ yard threats if they had a pistol or AR handy, so why make folks do this in matches.
  16. blade tech DOH is a very popular kydex holster. i use these for a variety of guns in idpa and uspsa. you will need to remove the drop/offset piece for idpa.
  17. i went ahead and got two holsters. bladetech DOH for uspsa, and WRS for 3 gun. to get good retention using the DOH you really need to crank it down which hinders the draw. but you don't want to be messing with the WRS hood while shooting Limited. check out g-code for 3 gun. the one i tried seemed easier to get the gun out than the wrs, but not 100% sure they make for the edge. haven't tried anything from safariland yet.
  18. atlanta arms makes .40 minor (sure others do also, and if you reload then you can too) and with that all you need is a lighter recoil spring (10# works for me and my Edge). with this you can pretty much use everything you already have. a couple less rounds in the mag doesn't hurt you too much if at all in 3 gun. that said, i just got a 9mm eagle for 3 gun, steel matches and also idpa; using my .40 Edge for uspsa limited. too easy, at least for me, to mix up 40 major and minor, plus an excuse for another gun.
  19. been using a pair of howard leight impacts for a couple of years. my problem with them is they sit on top of my ears instead of surrounding them. just bought a pair of Pro Ears 300 that i definitely prefer. they cover my ears more and the padding is a lot softer. found a pair at $150 at optics planet.
  20. hard chrome is somewhere in the $200 range. so you're paying another $200 for a pretty nice trigger job and reliability work. well worth it to me, and that is just what i did a few months ago. haven't shot it a ton, but no complaints so far.
  21. hit your local gun shows. at mine there are always a few leather belt vendors with plenty of assortment to check out and pick from.
  22. i bought a brazos $150 kit for two of my STI's. i did have to very slightly file one of the legs on the thumb safety to get that to fit back in. the kit definitely improved the weight and smoothness of the pull from what came from the STI factory, but it's definitely not as good as a custom trigger job. my brief understanding is that the sear spring legs can be bent to adjust the pull but i haven't gotten that far yet.
  23. didn't think firearms were allowed at the USPS? Sorry, couldn't resist, carry on...
  24. i think the saying goes, "beware the man with one gun." but i have an assortment of toys and enjoy mixing it up. but the ergo's and trigger of the 2011 are hard to go backwards from back to glocks. but like noted above, buy a 2011 that is idpa-legal and you'll be shooting the same platform for all the games.
  25. as a follow up, I tried 10, 11 & 12# and the 10 worked absolutely perfectly at my last match.
