  1. recommended to me, and I follow, with one handed shooting to cant the gun slightly towards your centerline (not full 90 degree gansta) and anchor your empty hand somewhere on your body so it's not flailing around. go slow and get good hits (yes I know it's hard to do that); you'll have plenty of time to go fast later.
  2. let the RO at each stage know you're new and ask to go last or towards the end of your squad. watch how everyone shoots each stage (the order they engage targets, head or body shots, etc) and see what works best for you and follow suit. since you know the classifiers, practice them with an empty gun at your home. at the end of the day, it's just another stage, and you'll shoot plenty more classifiers over the course of your competition career.
  3. well my classifications haven't improved in either uspsa or idpa, but when I switched from glock 34/35 to sti eagle/edge i really feel my shooting has improved, and I am finishing a little higher than I used to. at least for me, the 2011 ergos and trigger are a big improvement over the glocks.
  4. http://hear-pro.com/shop/amp37/ holy cow, $1275.00 for these??!! i would like to switch from pro ears muffs (which do a great job and are pretty comfy, and way better [noise and comfort] than the Leights i used before) to elec plugs just to not have muffs in the way, but not for over $1k.
  5. haven't shot the CZ, but I seriously feel like I'm cheating since I have been shooting my 9mm Eagle, vs the glocks I have shot for years, different divisions of course.
  6. wow that is bizarre. look and sign up for a 3 gun match in your area. you will definitely get to use/test your shottie at a 3 gun match. actually it's a great idea to wring out your HD gear (pistol, rifle, shottie) at matches just to make sure everything (including the shooter) works as intended.
  7. DVC mag release - will they just have the drilled and tapped mag catch, or will they also have the oversized paddle / button 54-0000-00? Above seems to say the STI paddle/button, but all the pics I've seen just show it drilled and tapped with no paddle / button.
  8. I'm not a fan of having all three guns on you while shooting (eg pistol holstered, rifle slung, shooting shottie). One, there's a distraction / ergonomics factor (stuff in the way of each other, stuff relocating/rebalancing) that could lead to safety issues. And two, increases the odds that your nice gear gets all beat up rubbing against each other or walls, props, etc. While Kyle in Amer Sniper slung his precision rifle and cleared rooms with his AR and holstered handgun (and even then he didn't also have a bunch of shell caddies getting in the way), not sure how practical that is for the rest of us. Slung rifle while shooting pistol, sure (one is none, two is one...), but when that gets super-sized to three guns it seems a bit much.
  9. any pro's and con's vs the Brazos round cyclone mag release button? are there any torque issues with the STI as it seems the paddle is off the axis vs the Brazos which is centered? maybe the STI is a little easier to reach being set back towards the back of the gun a little?
  10. wow that was a lot of shooting, looks like a blast!
  11. can you please expand on the 'issue with the frame at the top?' my deal with impact-resistant glasses is they're just too tight against my head (all corners of the lenses/frame). I realize that reduces the chance of stuff getting in or to my eyes, but I fog up tremendously and then can see nothing which doesn't help my scores all that much. would be awesome to find a pair that had more of a sunglasses - looser fit and thus had some airflow.
  12. midway had a super price on their magnetic holster a month ago.
  13. yeah I shot a match a while back with a buddy and it was one of his first matches. he makes ready and RO says the mag is sticking out a little. buddy says it's an extended mag, supposed to do that. RO says ok and beep, then click...
  14. I really liked my Trijicon 1-4 with the green dot. Glass was clear and that dot was always bright for quick target acquisition, and didn't wash out in sunlite on dark targets. It was capped and didn't have any elevation or windage stadia, which certainly won't be a problem at 100 yards. I found myself needing more magnification, so sold that for a 1-6. I would have gotten the Trijicon 1-6 but the $2k+ price tag is WAY out of its value proposition for me.
  15. limited time and more importantly, very limited patience, and getting this wrong can have serious consequences. I ordered a case of Atlanta so we'll see how that goes.
  16. yeah they're just doing what they should, coming out with better products to entice all of us to buy and/or upgrade. it's the circle of life, we buy the new stuff, sell our "old" stuff at reasonable prices that lets others get into the game, repeat, repeat. I bought an edge last year as well and would have preferred the new DVC, but I'm super-happy with the edge and no regrets.
  17. I use WRS that fits both my edge and eagle. I did need to drill out a 1/4" or so hole at the bottom so the eagle's barrel could go forward just a skosh more so that the hood would work with both hammer cocked and down.
  18. Yes I'm one of the five guys in the world that doesn't reload... Pls, for those of you that have relatively stock STI Trubor's and GrandMasters and the like, what factory 38 super ammo have you found that works great and also that doesn't work great? Both ammo that makes major in USPSA and also minor for steel. I read the thread that talked about ammo that makes major and minor but want to know what actually works good (or not) in your gun. I am going to buy a couple of boxes each of Atlanta (major and minor), Federal (two bullet weights), Remington, Aquila, Winchester and PMC and see how they do but still would appreciate your input. thanks, david
  19. Dustin, do you have a list of which dealers have ordered the most of these from you? Feel free to PM me if that isn't something you want to disclose publicly. thanks! david
  20. for anyone who has a STI steel master 9mm minor open gun (Winchester white box) or comparable gun, and also a 5"+ 38 super open gun (eg trubor or grandmaster), any input as to the recoil difference between the two? I guess I'm trying to figure out if the comp works more efficiently with the 38 super round and sucks up most of the increased power. or, with a similar comp on both guns, is the increased recoil fully proportional to the increased energy of the 38 super round? I have the steel master now and it of course works great for steel matches, but does have the scoring disadvantage in uspsa. with a 38 super open gun I'd lose the scoring disadvantage, but not sure how much it would slow me down with steel. thanks! david
  21. thanks for all the feedback! he is looking at brazos which has a few, or ordering from dawson. contacted alpine for more info. no one else above is showing any. thanks again.
  22. seems like slim pickin's out there. brother is looking for a 2011 either edge, eagle, tactical or marauder, kindly advise if you know of any stores that have some, thanks.
  23. polish plate rack = way more entertainment
