Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Thanks for the input. I tried out the 3lb spring and had no issues. The 2lb spring felt considerably better though. I'll roll with the 3lb until I can pick up the skeletonized/extended striker. Thanks again.
  2. I bit the bullet a few months back and sold my XD to switch to a G34. My XD had a 3lb trigger from Springer Precision and it was awesome. I recently had a ZEV/Glockwox "Standard Competition Trigger" (ZT-STD-C-4G9-COMP) in an effort to clean up my trigger a bit. However, with my first 4 mags I had 4 light strikes, I'm using CCI #500 small pistol primers. I'm ruling out ammo being the issue as it runs fine through the gun with factory parts in it. The kit came with both a 2# and 3# striker spring. The 2# is installed, will switching to the 3# spring most likely solve my issue? Any other ideas to get a cleaner trigger while having 100% reliability? Thanks in advance.
  3. A huge thanks to Corey and all the staff that put this match together and kept it running smooth. This was the first match I've shot since last August and couldn't be more pleased with the stages and all around organization. Special thanks to Corey for squeezing me in Friday so I could shoot while home on leave from the dessert!
  4. So I'm looking at Appendix D4 for rules on milling the slide, and it states "a slide may be modified specifically for the purpose of installing sights, and for no other purpose." I'm looking to send an XD to Bowie Tactical Concepts to have them remove the rear sight, install a Leupold Deltapoint, and then mill a new dove tail in front of the Deltapoint to re-install the rear sight. Essentially a co-witness for a pistol. Examples can been seen in the pictures section of bowietacticalconcepts.com What I am unsure about, if I remove the Deltapoint and put the optional cover on, making the gun an iron sight only gun, would it still be legal for Production division? The slide was milled only for the puropse of installing sights, and if anything, the shorter sight radius would put me at a disadvatage vs. competitive advantage. Without getting into the why I want to do this....... I'm just looking for an official ruling on if it would be Production legal. Thanks for the help from those in the know! PS- Pictures of the co-witness set up as well as the cover for when the MRD is removed are both available in the pictures section of the BTC website.
  5. I know one guy on my squad that took all 6 rounds shot and the 7th weighed was shooting Federal. The Federal you can buy at Walmart for $10.47 a box. Not sure about the others. And I agree that we shouldn't change a thing. I just thought it would be an interesting point of discussion, and so it has been!
  6. I admit, there are definitely factory ammo/gun combinations that will make it. But will the brand new shooter know what those combos are? Sucks for them to have to buy a certain kind of ammo and put it through a certain kind of gun to compete for score. When the guy at the OH Sectional went sub-minor with factory ammo, it just made me think about what a pattern like this might do to our sport and if we should make changes to it doesn't hurt it.
  7. Kevin, It sounds like you had a solid idea of what the sport was about and dedication to become a part of it. I'm referring more to the guy that may be on the fence about competitive shooting and has a 4in XD at home. Shoots enough to be decent, but not enough to justify spending the money on a press and start reloading (This is just how I was when I started). He tries a few local USPSA matches and enjoys it, shoots the state Sectional, and gets told his score won't count because his factory bought ammo didn't make minor. Having already paid a $75 or more match fee, I can see how it would turn off an individual from continuing in the sport, and just returning to the static range a few times a month. Obviously I loved the sport enough to invest the money, start reloading, become an RO, etc. Much like it sounds you did. But not everyone who tries USPSA is as dedicated. Those are the ones I feel like we could potentially lose. I'm not hugely in favor of adjusting the rules....but I don't want to drive away potential new members either.
  8. At the 2011 OH Sectional, there were several instances of factory 115gr FMJ 9mm barely making minor(125.0 PF after 6 rounds and shooting #7) and in at least one case, not making Minor PF (124.9 PF). I can't say for certain all the guns that were used, but I believe one was a M&P with the 4.25in barrel, and one other a G19 I think. I know the 125.0 PF was factory Federal, and I believe the 124.9 PF was Federal as well. My concern is that Production division is supposed to be the easy entry division for beginner shooters. A "shoot what you got" kind of thing. Most basic shooters don't have a chronograph because they don't reload and have no need for one. They assume, and I would say rightfully so, that a standard 9mm pistol with factory ammo will allow them to compete in Production division given the appropriate holster, mag holders, mags, etc. With the increasing cost of metals, I would say it's a safe bet that ammo manufacturers are saving millions by dropping powder charges a tenth here and there, which would explain the drop in velocity in some factory ammo. If this shows to be a repeating occurrence and factory 9mm does not always make minor PF, should there be a move to change the 125 PF level to say 124, or 120. Or should we hold the mentality that beginner USPSA shooters should buy the right ammo, to go with a gun that has a 5in barrel, and find someone with a chronograph to make sure their combination makes Minor PF if they want to compete in our sport. If we hold firm on the latter of the two, are we hurting our own cause by discouraging new shooters, and perhaps pushing them somewhere else such as IDPA or SCSA, where PF is not an issue? Curious of everyones' thoughts on the matter.
  9. I'm running the factory weight recoil spring, which for a 5in XD9 is 17lbs if I'm not mistaken. Suggesting that I replace the recoil spring?
  10. So last night I put in the Wolff extra power striker spring. While shooting the OH Sectional today, stages 1-3 went fine. On stage 4 (the classifier of course) I had light strikes on back to back rounds. The next 5 stages went fine, and on the last stage I had 3 light strikes!!! Does this sound like a batch of bad primers (CCI) or something mechanical with the gun (ie-springs, dirt stuck somewhere, etc.)?
  11. Thanks. I have the Wolff spring kit with 3 different weight recoil springs and 3 different weight striker springs. Sounds like it's time to bump up to a heavier weight!
  12. I've noticed an increase in the amount of light strikes I've had in the last 2-3 months using both Winchester and CCI primers. Is it safe to say that it might be time to put in a new striker spring? I've got about 4K rounds through it and I bought it used. I got a major match coming up and want to be running at 100%.
  13. Well my goal to win A class production at a major match will have to wait. I only shot 2 local matches before making Master in production!! I guess that winter dry firing pays off!! New 2011 goals: -Win 1st Master in Production at a major -Make GM in Production by July
  14. I'm glad I made the 4 hour drive to Sir Walter this past weekend. I shot a great match and put up my first 100% run ever! 50pts in 5.88 seconds. Not only was it a personal record, but I might have shot well enough on my other classifiers to make Master!
  15. What are you using to cut down your Comp IIIs? Dremel blade? Hack saw? And how are you ensuring that they are cut evenly with the star all the way around? I'm just getting started with my revolver and this thread has been great!
