  1. If it's their first IDPA match, okay. If it's not then they need to decide if they are going to shoot IDPA or not. I agree. I appreciated the offer from one of the shooters at the first match I attended to use his gear so I could get my feet wet. The fact that someone would make such an offer to someone they just met said alot about those in attendance. It made it much easier for me to decide that this was something I might want to do more of. Jim
  2. Dont most people sweep themselves when drawing and holstering? Depending on holster type and body shape, it might be impossible to avoid. I would say however that appendix carry would have me sweeping a more important and sensitive part of my anatomy than my normal carry position. Shooters run the risk of being DQed for sweeping themself when drawing and holstering, although I've seen more warnings/reminders than actual DQs at local matches (especially where the start position is holstered and seated). A gentle reminder in the stage briefing to not sweep oneself helps minimize safety issues. Jim
  3. I like Jerry Miculek's comment. Jim
  4. That sums it up for me...on the other hand, it's hard to expect much if one doesn't know any better. 60+ here...found USPSA by going to my club for another reason and ended up watching a match a couple of years ago. I'm glad I decided to give it a shot, literally. Since then it's been a constant learning process. Jim
  5. +1...although situational awareness has improved.
  6. I'm a new USPSA shooter also and I'm learning new things at each match (like how to manage reloads and engage all the targets). I have to make a conscious effort to slow down and call my shots, especially if I am in a squad of good shooters who make it look so easy at times. When I try to go fast like them, I crash and burn. Jim
  7. Anyone have an accurate load using WSF or WST with 124 gr bullets? Jim
  8. Thanks for the info in this thread. I'm still trying to sort out the best accuracy combo in my gun. Jim
  9. Shooting the star is a work in progress for me. I catch myself chasing the plates and forgetting about the front sight. Jim
  10. I liked it the first time I saw it, and every time since then (although I quit counting how many).
  11. That's a pretty good summary of priorities. I like the comment about location of the -0 zone. It took me a few matches before I realized how much I focused on the center of the target instead of the -0 zone. I was accurate, just not in the -0 consistently. The suggestion of shooting slow, and doing everything else fast, helps me (and I wrote a couple simple reminders on a 3x5 card that I keep in my shooting bag so I don't forget to apply the basics). Good luck in your journey to the next level. Jim
  12. Great post! Thanks for the insight. Jim
  13. I know my club ran several shooters (local and out of town) through a classifier after a local match so they could register for an upcoming sanctioned match. It didn't take long for our MD and SOs to run them through the classifier. Otherwise, our club runs a classifier in the spring and then again in late summer. If you ask, you may find similar assistance at a local club. Jim
  14. Thanks for your summary, especially your description of the WH position. Jim
  15. Thanks for the info. I'm new to USPSA and found the link to the classifier info helpful. Your comments on reloads and dry fire routines was helpful.

    Family dog

My springer spaniel is 14 yrs. old. I was sick over the weekend and where ever I was in the house, he was at my feet. He's not as active as he once was, but still a faithful companion. Jim

    Good quote

dial phone with a "ring, ring" or cell phone style? if the young ones are here and playing with some of their parent's toys, i usually get the older "ma bell" phone handset...the kids keep the handheld...in the big scheme of things, i'm not sure what that means
