  1. take a clean sized case and place it in a clean dry chamber. Tap it a few times. Turn gun muzzle up and brass should fall out. If it does not then size it more unti you can. you can get stuck fired cases if you dont size enough.
  2. 200 yd zero = 50 yd zero more or less. 0-25 aim 2" high, 25-50 1" low, 50-200 center mass. 300 aim top of chest, 400 head, 500 1/2 target high and 600 1.5 target high...or so. most important dont get DQ and have a good zero (50/200) and guns that run.
  3. about .10-.20 each, or not that much. Google 7.62 brass.
  4. screw the die down more and try again. If it fits in a case guage call it good. If you are loading on a Dillion then the dies have to compress that spring and ball thing and it can give you the impression that your die is down far enough. If a sized clean case will drop into your chamber, give it a tap and then turn the gun upside down. If the case falls out your also good to go.
  5. who makes a 173g 9mm bullet...or a 158g for that matter?
  6. buy a primer pocket cutter and chuck it up in a cordless drill. much much faster than a swager. they run 10.00 or so. Hornady makes one.
  7. 24 of TAC, RL 15 or VAR will shoot well with 69-80g bullets in .223. my 3 gun LR load is 24.2 TAC with 77 Sierra or Nozler in mixed LC cases. They shoot well out of several of my Krieger barreled guns.
  8. i think i used 5g of blue dot and 55's.
  9. cound be several things. First weigh 10 rounds and crono them. If your ES goes down to 60 or so then your doing fine, my match .223 ammo and RL 15 has 50 FPS and thats with weighed charges etc. TAC is kind of slow for 55 bullets so there could be something there. Neck tension and sizing could also be an issue; If its range brass and even if you size it all you will have variations in internal capacity as you will not get all the brass sized back to the same point. As far as neck tension goes and if you have bushing dies then try a smaller bushing, it will give you more tension and that could help.
  10. bullet run out is mostly a result of your brass. Dies do contribute but you will not get low run out with poor brass in good dies.
  11. I have never been able to get any wolf ammo to shoot. Multiple ARs and .223 bolt guns. The bullets, even the HP are not closed base bullets, the jackets are very very thick. I thought i would try some on gophers and save some money; they did not shoot well at all and they act like a fmj when they hit a gopher.
  12. I would look for two ammo choices; or at least its what i do. I have a 55 FMJ load that i use for close in stuff under 200 and another 77 load for long range. I find that accuracy among 55 jmj can range from bad to very good and i think that the hornady 55 FMJ is about as good as it gets. I have tried some others that are not worth much at all. I fond that i get less flip and better recoil control from the 55's and its a shame to waste a good 77 punching a hole at 5 yds. With my 1.5-5 MK4, the range settings are close to the same with both.
  13. if you reload then you are in luck. In many cases you can get a 80 bullet to shoot well in a 1-9. I have done this myself as have many others time and time again in factory WIN M70 HV guns that all have 1-9 barrels. If that does not work then try a 70-75 match bullet. You SHOULD be able to get a 75 H or 77 sierra to shoot in your rifle so i would not count it out. I would look at shooting a 68 sierra or better. You are going to need a BTHP bullet that will buck wind and a 60 flat base bullet simply will not work well past 300 yds. BC and wind drift are often different. Some people have looked on some BC charts and thought at a 53 A max would be the best thing going....well tere are no high power shooters using these bullets for a reason. oh yea, for years all we had with the AR platform was 69 bullets and they worked ok out to 600 yes, shot well, but lots of wind.
  14. what kind of powder and bullet combination are you using? If its slow powder with light bullets you are getting lots of unburnt powder hitting your comp at 3000 fps plus. This is not to say that your comp should break but its something to consider.
  15. Im looking into a CZ. Could someone please clarify. Do you have to engage the safety if your first shot is DA? tanks.
  16. I used some JB weld to make a trigger stop. Its holding....so far. Not too much stress i dont imagine.
  17. ALCON, I am happy to announce that the first annual borderland smoothbore shotgun festival was a success. I am leaving the area but I am confident that another brave soul will pick up and carry the colors. We shot five stages and a total of over 100 rounds of shotgun. This was a collaborative effort from three of the local clubs with shooters traveling up to two hours to shoot. Future plans include more prizes for places as well as some give always for shooters. At end state for this match we would like a 8-10 stage over two days match and make a big event out of it.
  18. 3.7 clays, federal primers, 230 FMJ = 170 PF, 4" 625
  19. when you go from #6 to a 7.5 you are getting almost twice as many pellets. From RO ing more guys with all kinds of SGs out there that #6 will take all plates off/down better in guns that are marginal as far as short barrels and or no chokes. My 18.5 remington CLY gun will not do much with 7.5 or 8's, put some #6 high brass shells in there and it will take anything down that we have shot. Just Sat guys were complaining that the steel was too far away: the hits were not center, he was shooting 1 oz of 7.5 's at the bottom plate on a TX star. Just saying that while YES shot size and choke matter quite a bit, you still have to hit the plates square with some guns. Also, given the save weight of the same size shot all shells are not made the same and some will pattern tight, while others will not be close.
  20. 40-41g H4895 with 168's in a very old NRA HP load. Should work. RL15 and 175's should work too. .308 is about as easy as it gets to find a load that shoots well with a good gun/ barrel. 20" is sketchey at best at 1000. 155's might work if you have a short throat.
  21. 748 is a little fast, 23.5 of 748 with 69's is an old NRA HP load. Not sure about velocity but 748 does burn cooler than some other powders.
  22. One-shot will dry out in a few hours. If youre hell bent on using it put cases in bucket, spray, shake, spray, shake and then let them sit for a few min. I would use Dillon spray lube and see what happens. Also mike expander ball. SHould be .222-.224 or so. Might be over sized. I have had more poor stuff from Hornady than all other's combined.
  23. good results with 24 tac, 77g and Wolf SRM primers so far. 2650 fps 18" CHF. 10 shots 1" at 100.
  24. ALCON, Who di i need to talk with and or verify who im squaded with? Will there be a squad posting in the near term future? I also know that some shooters have recieved a confirmation email and others have not? When might we expect all confirmation emails to be sent out? Thanks. jon
