  1. I4064-4895 and 175 or less bullets.
  2. I have never had any issues with the one i have. If your brass is way out of whack it would trim one side and not the other. I would take out the case holder and clean it out, there might be some crud in there thats causing misalignment. I would also rotate the cutter to a new fresh cutting surface, you have three there to play with. Place a case in with the cutter loose to get things lined up and play with the cutter until you get uniform results inside and out. You don't need to chamfer/debur that much, just take the edge off. Ensure you apply direct straight pressure. I can trim a case in like 1/2 a second. I suppose you also might have some crud inside the sliding case holder thing that might be misalign things too. I would also call Girud and he will be sure to help.
  3. There are a few threads some other places that i found earlier. Apparently RS TAC and WIN powders have some sort or something thats supposed to reduce copper build up thats been in their powders for some time. Burn rates look good as far as i can tell. Starting charges look like good velocity in .223 with heavy bullets. Ill play with some later.
  4. You need to seat the bullets deeper in the cases so that you are crimping in the groove and adjust the crimp. Start with seated bullet. Loose the crimp and run a loaded round all the way up. Adjust the die down until you get the crimp you want. I think that you have the die way too far down and as a result you are crimping to early and as a result its causing pressure to buckle the case.
  5. Whats your regular email. There is some concern that im criming too much or somthing or my dies are too small etc. I'm getting a lee u die and will measure bullets when i get back but like i said there was not much of a mark from the crimp on them. I have the parts i need from brownells on order, id hate to do this thing again. I guess ill have to look at brass a little more in the future.

  6. As far as loaded length goes you are more often better off getting the bullets closer to the throat than you are too short. It made a big difference with my 9mm stuff, long shot much better. Longer bullets will jump less from case into the bore.
  7. Some of the plastic pistols dont work all that well with bulseye, most reloading books will mention something along those lines. I think it has to do with short recoil pulse or voo doo.
  8. 38 super feeds fine in my 9mm set up when they get mixed in.
  9. Throat is the portion of the barrel thats cut between the chamber and the bore. It provides a gradual transition for the bullet. A longer throat will allow you to load longer ammo so that you are not jamming bullets into the bore with loaded ammo in the chamber.
  10. Yes the barrel is fully ramped and supported. The throat is quite long and i have found that it feeds better when loaded long. 4.4 with the 170's gave 925 FPS so thats very close at 158 or so. I had shot some 4.3 TG with 165 bare lead and SR primers and i was at 1050 or so. I have found that SR primers are good for another 40-50 FPS or so. As these are some of my first Molly bullets i am not sure what effect it has compared to naked lead. If its like loading rifle you need more powder to get the same velocity from a given load. From those that i have talked with Paras have very short throats so that would increase pressure and velocity with a given load over long throat/ ammo combinations.
  11. I dont recall that there was any issue dropping loaded rounds into the chamber. Ill measure things when i get back home this weekend.
  12. I tried it and gave up. Very inconsistent ignition and velocity with standard primers. I would look elsewhere.
  13. Humm. Ill take a look when i get back from the field. When i size the cases in the hornady dies the case mouth is .419 and, as it turns out that what i brought the cases back to so the cases did not start larger than .419 so im confuced with the "you are smashing your bullets with crimp" comment as that where the cases start before and after crimp. The bullets are all in good shape after pulling as that is to say no shaving and no real marks. The bullets were fairly easy to pull with that hammer thing. Ill measure diameter them when i get back home. I did not think about an out of battery incident. I have no idea at this point where the brass came from but it was more than likley range pick up factory stuff, possibly once fired but un likley. What might cause an out of battery incident? I have another frame on order, a Lee U die (might not need it) and dillon powder checkers all for good measure. Id hate to do this again. Only other thing that i can recall is that i had a few light primer strikes previous so i re cocked the hammer and things went bang (not boom). On the round that let go everything was working ok as far as i know well.. up to a point. Oh, no leading that i can speak of and accuracy was good.
  14. .419 is the mouth dia of the sized case and its the same dia as with a bullet in case therefore i believe there was/is no crimp. I would know if the case is getting crimped into the bullets and its not. Pulled the rest of what i had and you can only make out the faintest mark from the crimp.
  15. Well for what its worth a UCD die is in the mail, and more crimp for good measure. Is it that easy to get bullets to sey back in the case?
  16. No coke bottle shape.. Hornady dies. Round on top had some signifigant set back. 1.1 or so, not so far under "normal" length with a moderate charge. Im not sure if the explosion set the bullet back in the case or the recoil. Im for sure going to make sure i get better crimp in the future to rule out that possibility. Im also not enamored with TG, might look at something else powder wise too. Suggestions?
  17. Humm. Never thought about that. Lots of glock shooters around these parts. I have however ordered some dillon powder checkers to keep my mind at ease in the future.
  18. It was range pick up brass. Likley once fired federal in all likleyhood as there is lots of federal agencies shooting the stuff here.
  19. So im out shooting my 2011 .40 today. 170 lead Precision molly bullets, 4.4 tightgroup, tula SP 1.230 OAL, crimped to .419 and things got bad. All loaded on a 650 WITHOUT a powder check station that will be on order tonight. Started wtih 4.0 = 858 4.2 = 900 4.4 925 fps I had already shot 20 of the 4.4 and realised that this was too slow so i burned the rest of the ammo. I was shooting strong hand only and the pistol let go. I was not hurt. Recoil was not excessive. The case blew out the bottom and the primer was no where to be found. The round on the top of the magazine was set back to 1.112 OAL. The case that let go was a federal. I did not have to "pound" the case out with a squib rod. I see two possibilities: double charge of powder would fit in the case or something along those lines. The bullet set back into the case as i dont think i had and real crimp at all as it turns out. I fould not push the bullets back into the case by hand. All the primers look fine and i am well inside the max for the powder. I am confident that the pistol did not fire out of battery. There does not appear to be any damage to the pistol other than a total loss of the frame and trigger. Anyone have any other ideas? I consider myself luckey that i was not hurt.
  20. I think that you will need to make 165 PF for IDPA in ESR if your shooting moon clips.
  21. Is it possible that you were shooting lead followed by jacketed bullets. I suppose if there was some heavy lead in the barrel and you pushed a jacketed bullet down the bore it would raise pressures. What load were you shooting?
  22. STI 140mm tubes, grams springs and followers and SNL = 20 Rds. STI tubes, grams springs and SNL = 18 Rds. .40 cal.
  23. For what its worth at last weekends three gun shooters with #6 shot had little trouble with steel. Those shooting smaller shot had some issues. All steel plates, TX star and a plate rack at 20-25 ft or so. I have found that with my 1100 21" i can shoot IC and #6 dove loads and still knock everything off.
