  1. You can shoot quite a bit here out in far west tex-aco. We are shooting a three gun every month between the Bliss Rod and Gun and Butterfield up in las cruces. 4th Sat in Feb is three gun in Cruces, 4th sat in march is three gun in el paso and so on alternating every month. We plan on shooting a 100 rd shotgun match 31 March 2012 at Bliss rod and gun. jonathan
  2. Bought a new Springfield loaded target 1911 9mm. Great pistol. Bought some Wilson 10 rd magazines. They are a little hard to seat with the slide forward. Attempting to order some Dawson precisions and they are on back order. Should I try Tripp research or somethind else as they are all about the same price. Wilson mags work but dont always lock back and as its for IDPA i would like them to.
  3. Replace the gas tube and make sure its lined up and bent properly. Its possible that when you replaced HGs the tube does not line up. Take only the Carrier and drop it in the upper reciever. If you feel resistance then going forward then the gas tube is hitting the gas key on top of the carrier. Bend tube so it does not. Lube the hell out of the bolt and carrier and with a clean chamber try some factory ammo. If your shooting with too slow powder with a carbine gas system you could have some issues like if your shooting rl15 or varget with 55 or lighter bullets.
  4. I shot up all of the 147 Zero FMJ that i had on hand. I think i needed 3.5 with old lot to make minor and 3.8 with the new lot. These shoot great.
  5. Im going to run 3.7 clays with 230 Precision deltas and federal primers. in my 1911 and 625 im getting about 750 FPS.
  6. The barrel is non ramped and the back of the case is not fully supported. The pistol is a single stack 1911. 6.5g of WAC with 165L is the start load and im getting 1050 fps wtih 6.0 grains. I had a mishap a while ago with .40 in my 2011 so im a prehaps a bit cautions about loading .40..
  7. I have a .40 with a non-ramped barrel. I am concerend about shooting major loads in this pistol. I tried 6.0 Win auto comp with 165 lead bullets which gave me 1050 fps. Start load is 6.5 of WAC. I have fired about 100 rds without incident and the brass looks good. Am i in the danger zone? This was a used pistol so it was shot before. I cant imagine that a less than start load with lead bullets would be that hot and there are no buldges in the cases. Comments? The load shoots well and recoil is just fine. Im sure to look at some more WAC loads in my 2011. jon
  8. I used to shoot 3.2 solo 1000 with 147 Lead. I made the transition to jacketed bullets at the same time that i got some new solo. Last range sesstion 865 fps for 147 Zero with 3.6 SOLO and remington primers. Thats quite a bump to get ths same velocity that i was getting from lead. Any similar experiences with new solo? Gun is 5" M&P.
  9. Im looking to upgrade to a new SG. I am leaning to a new SLP MK 1 22". It appears that the winchester SX2/3 is the same gun. As i understand it the read difference between the two would be a 24" VR barrel vs a 22" with cantileaver if i add a mag extension and i would be into the winchester for about 250 less than the FN. Im not sure if im wild about the cantileaver sight on the FN but it appears to work well for lots of shooters. I would put a 10/22 rear sight into the VR on the SX2/3. Is this correct or is there something different between the two other than the barrels and mag extension? tanks.
  10. If there is too much powder in the case and you are not at max pressure you can sometimes see the neck or case bulge when you seat the bullet. Its also a good idea to pull a bullet and see what kind of deformation your doing to the base of the bullet. Dings on the base will affect accuracy.
  11. 1.200 OAL drops right into my chambers with TCFP bayou 180 bullets and thats what i shot last weekend. I replaced the DC and the pistol now has less play as to where the hammer will fall in relation to slide position. I figure thats a good thing as there is noticible wear on the old DC. I have also installed another FP. Not sure if i need one but the one i have is on the short side. In summary I have replaced the safety, grip safety, slide release and now the DC and firing pin. In reality we might never know what happened to this pistol to cause this malfunction. I have serious doubts that this was a DC due to the lack of excessive recoil but it is possible and I now have a powder check on my 650. In the event There was some bullet set back im now using LEE U sizine dies. I have replaced the DC in the event that that was an issue and allowed a "slight OOB incident" so i figure there is not much more to do that go shoot some more and keep wearing eye pro.
  12. I took the pistol out to day and it shot without incident after the rebuild. After checking things out it appears that the pistol will fire with the slide pushed to the rear a little more than it should. Ill replace the disconnector as it looks a little worn. easy fix. I bought the pistol used and i have had to replace lots of the guts and i think i should have replaced a few more parts.
  13. So my 617 ran like a top for the longest time and then i started to get some misfires. Especially evident with crappy remington ammo. I was able to replace hammer spring with another one but trigger pull was less than ideal. I polished the internals and put it back together with original hammer spring that was not working and still got some misfires. I installed the exteneded firing pin and all is now well. Might be something here to this. Might be a less than ideal solution but to get things to my liking this is what worked.
  14. For what its worth i polished the sides of my hammer, trigger, hammer return spring keeper and hammer block bar. I think it helped as i noticed some wear marks on the sides of the hammer. Might have been a waste of time and I would defer to the experts.
  15. if you want to shoot 90s in an AR you need at least a 1/7 at lower altitude. The AMU tried them and were shooting them in 1/6.5 barrels. In general you cant get the velocity with 90s that you need and 80 work better. AMU stuck with the 1/6.5 for the 1000yd guns with 80s. I do have a 1/9 bolt gun that shoots 80s all day long quite well so go figue but the general rule is 20" needs a 1-8 or better for 80's.
  16. How light can you go with the trigger return spring? I cant see how it could be too light, or i just dont fully understand what it does other than return the trigger forward.
  17. 41-42g of 4895 is/ was the standard go to load for M1A's and 168g bullets for more years than i know. Thats what is/ was loaded in M852. H4350 would be too slow for .308. If you oversize your brass you can get primer flow issues with start loads. Primer flow in the the FP hole can be an issue if its over size with light loads too.
  18. Lots of shooters here in EL paso and in KC all said the same thing. 231 can be hard to light. Super velocity ES from 600-100 with same load and im doing everythign right. Some powders are hard to light and this did not work for me and many others. This was with lead, possibly jacketed bullets would have worked. All was fine with same loads with SR primers for hotter spark.
  19. The DC looks just fine. Ill chect the FP. Case it well into the chamber and the only deformation is the area right there at the ramp. How does one go about inspecting cases for an impending failure? Im not sure what all im looking for. Prior fired glock cases dont size back down and are easy to spot and toss. Other than that....
  20. I used a cleaning rod with Ar chamber brush, wrapped paper towels around brush, applied JP and with the help of a drill slicked up the last 1/2" of the chamber. My gun will now shoot el cheapo aluminum base stuff all day without an issue. It would not before. Did the same thing to my 870 with the same end result.
  21. might be too late but friends dont let friends buy Mini 14's.
  22. I have one and im not sold on it. Dropped the mag to clear gun after finish and the magazine turns into a pepper shaker and the ammo gets stuck. I could see the same thing happeing if you jar the gun going prone or something like that, not sure ill bet my like on it.
  23. Second on RL 15. If my match rifles will not shoot good groups with Rem 7 1/2 primers and 24-24.5 with 55-80g bullets the barrel will come off. I keep coming back to RL15 as my go to load and i have tried lots of them.
  24. I called CMMG about a 16" rifle gas set up gun some time ago. They said that you might can get it to work but I would need hot ammo. I shoudl think that a levang or krink comp would provide more gas if required to work the bolt.
