  1. I think the 5.4" is pretty close to perfect. Doesn't feel as slow as a 6", still gives you a little longer sight radius and the slide can be lightened to make it cycle quick. The other option, which is still uncommon is a 5" threaded barrel with a blind comp and the sight in that. You then get the features of a 5" gun, with a 6" sight radius.
  2. I have a JP GMR13 and can say that the dot in my MRO moves more without the brake than it does when it's on. I have shot it in a 2 gun (pistol, rifle) match and must say it's a ton of fun. A few stages I got to leave my pistol in the holster and utilize the carbine the whole time.
  3. Definitely looks good. What about dropping a 17L threaded barrel in a 17? Could you make a longer sight block to work with that combination? Maintain the fast cycling lightweight 17 slide but have a crazy long sight radius.
  4. None that I know of. A few of us Tarheel 3-Gun guys just cut about 2" off the spring and that fixed most peoples issues. Some of those guns with cut springs will even run the Win 980 fps low recoil / low noise shells.
  5. Pendergraft Gun Works in Chapel Hill, NC
  6. I really don't have a preference either way but shouldn't whoever shoots the match the fastest with all penalties included win?
  7. New C-More 1-6 should be out soon. Shot with Todd Jarrett today and saw a production model. Daylight bright, SFP, great BDC reticle, nice turrets, lighter than the Vortex with a similar price tag. I think it will be popular once a few more hit the streets.
  8. I'm with you. With my 24" Beretta I ran a Pure Gold Chokes spreader or improved cylinder with 1150 fps Remington Gun Club #8's on all but one stage. I shot a Carlson's light modified on stage 4 due to the dueling tree and 32 yard clay.
  9. I've had this happen with my guns as well and I don't have a welded lifter... What I found was that when I left my mag tube spring full length (16" over end of the tube / 12 round tube) and the mag tube was full, that there was too much pressure on the shells and when I depressed the button it wouldn't release the shell reliably. However, when you put one in the chamber and fired the gun the inertia/jarring of the shells in the tube allowed one to be released and all was good. I found that cutting the spring just 2" fixed that problem and still allowed for reliable final round feeding. My gun ran flawlessly this past weekend at the Remington Versa Max Shotgun Challenge in NC. There were quite a few 1301 Competitions at the match and a couple of them finished in the top 10...
  10. I shot a Carlson's LM choke with 1-1/8 oz, 1150 fps, #8 Rio's through my 24" 1301 Comp and had no issues on that stage. I lent Eckhardt my choke for his 21" 1301 and he had no issues either. Hell, he was shooting 1 oz, 1180 fps, #8 x-lite AA's through his. Evidently it was all pattern on those little buggers...
  11. Since the pics I have a few Carlson chokes which adds 3/4" to the barrel. I also just added the HiViz TriComp fiber optics. Be careful with the clamp that close to the end of the barrel. The barrel wall is thinner (where the choke tube fits in) and its possible to tighten the clamp to the point that the choke tube will not go in/out. I was aware of that when I installed the clamp - no problems. The Nordic tube is undercut in that location, so that's the only place it will clamp on the barrel. You can flip the tube since the threads are identical to put it closer to the barrel nut.
  12. I can get 11+1 with the +5 as well. Maybe we just got lucky.
  13. I agree. You running the trigger shoe? I am and think it's pretty slick.
  14. I'll try to post some pics in the near future. I agree with Pat though, the loading method determines the size and shape. I quad load, so the handguard had to be beveled quite a bit so I didn't hang the shells on it. My lifter just barely clears the follower.
  15. How is the barrel cut or ported below the comp? I have a Firebird Akdal but haven't removed to the comp to see if its really effective.
  16. My gunsmith (Pendergraft Gun Works) has found you can go further forward if you're follower is larger. The Roth follower and a custom made one from Joel can allow you to go up to the middle of that square bar code.
  17. The new hiperfire 24c is pretty slick. Flat trigger with an optional trigger shoe to ensure consistent finger placement. http://www.hiperfire.com/hipertouch24c.html
  18. Pat, are the kick-eez pre-fit or grind?
  19. I like both (comp-tac & blade-tech) but the "black ice" gets the nod.
  20. The FSS can get the pull a bit lighter that the competition kit but I'm unsure if it's necessary unless you're used to shooting something with an ultra light trigger.
  21. The FS with an Apex sear and USB made a great CDP gun for me.
