  1. Hello to all. I wish I could attend this match, but it's 3 days drive for me from the great white north. To ALL, please have a great time, shoot lots of X's, and be safe. To the organizes, the range help, and the spectators, thank you guys for all you do for us. I hope the weather is good for the matches. Have FUN. J. Russell Bryan From the great white north.
  2. Good afternoon Guys. There is a chart for these issues, if I can find mine I will post it. But for sure the chart will let you know how each powder will work in weather conditions. In the old day when I shot a lot of trap, we used W452AA, it reacted very bad the colder it got. Russell Shoot lots and have fun.
  3. Tom, you are alive.!!!!!!! that's very good to know. Your statement is for me 100% to the point. I have never thought that money or prizes should have anything to do with armature sport. Russell
  4. Good afternoon All you Guys. First off, I would like to wish all of you a safe and happy holiday season, and thank you all for letting me play with you, I have a crap load of fun at the events I get too, and get to learn a lot. The comments all of you have made are to the point and great, but I can't hold back, and have to add my 2 cents. Just cause. Unless things changed a lot on my end it is not likely I will ever get to shoot the Bianchi Cup again. But, the format change will never work if the price of the match stays or goes up, why would an average shooter pay $325USD to just hand over to one of the top 16 shooters. If this was a golf match, the entry fee is paid by the match, and even the loser gets something, at the Bianchi, at least the last time I went, I got nothing for $325USD other than seeing some great humans, and getting to shoot 192 rounds, it is just not worth the cost in whole. I am not totally sure, but the Action Pistol rules have at least 18 different matches, and a few real cool ones have been added in the past few years, a real test of shooting skill is to change up the matches all the time. I have the great fortune to be able to shoot at 4 great events, that cost less than $100UDS for each match, ( MI Indoor / MI just before the Bianchi / Chambersburg / Bedford VA ). In total these match entries will cost me about $600usd, so two times the cost of the one match at the Bianchi. Granted the only prizes we get are at the Bedford Matches, and this past year they drew them from a hat, ( everybody got something ) it was great, and all these matches are the best fun, best test of shooting skills, we always shoot the first day the 4 Bianchi matches, the second day is a free for all, a lot of fun. Kevin, I understand your thoughts, and get that you like the chance to win money, I know it helps off set your costs, but for the average guy/gal all we are doing is handing you over our entry fee's. if the primary Bianchi match was $100usd I would have no issue, but for $325.00usd it's rip off, no grab bag, nothing to let the world know I shot the match, and one sort of good meal, the awards dinner is at best rubber chicken, and in no way worth the entry fee. I know how much it costs to run a match, I know how much it costs for the crews, but for the match entry fee of the Bianchi, it really is not worth it for most people who want to shoot. For me, I will never go back, it's not worth it, I would rather travel to KS / Iowa / or lake Charles, the cost is way more, in travel and time, but the shooting is way more fun, or almost any other match rather than the Bianchi. The Bianchi MIGHT be the end all of the AP world, but it is just to expensive for nothing other than 192 shots fired. I will say it again, the only other reason to go to the Bianchi for me, is to get a chance to see humans I would never get to visit with otherwise. So Kevin, even though I was your best man, please don't kick the crap out of me for speaking my little mind. To the rest of you, in the last 6 years since I started shooting AP I have had the best fun, met the best people, and in general wish I had stayed with the sport, I did try in the mid 90's, but was shooting IPSC/USPSA, and though I knew how to shoot, I was very wrong. Thank you all for letting me join you in play, its just to much fun. J. Russell Bryan Canadian Action Pistol Shooter ( sub junior ) Be Safe, and shoot well.
  5. Good afternoon Sir. I had to reply to this, just cause I'm a pig headed human, don't give up. You probably have a lot of money in your toys, and a lot of effort has been put in. if you really are not having fun, then just wait a while and see what happens. I have had the great pleasure of shooting with a guy from Michigan who is in a wheel chair, he still plays as best as he can, and seems to have fun, but I think a lot of his attitude is just to come out and play, and see his friends. We shoot Action Pistol, and at the range in Michigan is not the most easy to move around in a chair, but all of the shooters pitch in and make it happen. The hardest event is the Barricade, cause the area for the shooter was never designed to allow for a chair, but with a little alteration of his position we can make it work, safely and so he can compete. As my wife is very sick and will never get better, I sort of get your thoughts, but for me, my thoughts are never give up or give in. you can still have fun, but if competition and winning are all you are thinking about, then that's a different story. in my case, my best friend Kevin A, who won the Bianchi Cup in 2014, is always on my ass. but he does understand that for me I shoot for fun, and then score, I know that unless I win the lottery, I will never have the time to put into the shooting sports, I work for my self, and look after my wife, so it's all about the fun. No matter what, all the shooters I have met in my 35 years of playing, are all willing to help, and figure out how to make it work for anybody, the range can be an issue, but I have never not been able to help those who need it. The rules in most sports we play at can be altered to allow for those who are challenged a bit, to insure safety and loads of fun. Please think about it, FUN is still FUN, and a day at the range no matter what the issue, is always fun, shooting and seeing friends, how can you lose. Hope this helps and makes you think. J. Russell Bryan Canadian Shooter of all that's fun.
  6. Hello, I was not sure if I was allowed to use the correct name, with out getting in trouble. CL is Cylinder and Slide, Bill is a great guy, and they are most helpful most of the time, on this subject, I think the person I talked to was just not well informed about the firing pin. I now have to check to see if the 617 is 2 different colours, I have never noticed. For sure the firearm is accurate, it just did not want to set off all the shells all the time. J. Russell Bryan
  7. Hey Guys. First off this is a great video, thank you. I got my S/W 617 10 shot 2 years ago, had it all set up to shoot Action Pistol matches, in open, sights, mover base, wings, and grips. What a disappointment this firearm was out of the box, the trigger was about 14lbs, crunchy, and not nice to play with. Had all the work done to it by a great gunsmith, but it would never set off all 10 shots, ever. I played around with ever type of ammo I could find, and out of 1000 rounds shot it only set off 700 of them. So this year, I went to Bedford for the AP matches in September, took my 2 38/357's with me as well as the 617, to let my best friend Kevin A try to see if it was me or the gun. It was not me, it was the gun. We tried filing the firing pin, no luck, we looked up on the web the shape of the pin, found it, but my pin was not even close to the picture, but it looked like the firing pin in my 686 PC, so we took the CL Extended firing pin out of my 686 PC, and put it into the 617, if fit perfectly, took it to the range, and guess what, of 100 rounds no miss fires, and great pin hits on the case. I got the gun home and took it to the range at my home club, and then fired 500 round over a few hours, and not one miss fire, ( all types of ammo ). Kevin, when we were at the Bedford range fired 10 X's at 50 yards, no issues, so the gun is accurate no question. The back story is that S/W was unwilling to help me, would offer no suggestions, and said to bad. As I live in Canada, sending the gun back to S/W is not an easy thing to do. I also called and talked to a human at CL and he told me that the Extended fire Pin they make WOULD not fit or work in the 617. Well I proved them wrong. So I have now in my possession 6 CL Extended firing pins, I will replace the one out of my 686 PC, and now can compete in the AP matches with my 617. A lot of time wasted on a firearm that cost me $1000.00 CDN dollars. I will practice with it, work it in, then try to get the trigger to a point that it still fires all the round, but has a bit lighter pull. Thank you all for your time. J. 8. Hello R. You just can't not try, can you.??!!! Please let us all know how it works out for you, I would be very interested to know. Russell
  9. What Sport would not let you pick up your mag, with a DQ involved.???? Russell
  10. Hey, I do not know you, but keep it up. Never say dead, until you are dead. What sport are you in mostly? Things look good so far. J. Russell Bryan Canadian AP shooter, and other fun sports with firearms. Left handed, revolver shooter, still trying to break 1900 No matter what keep it up.
  11. Good afternoon Guys. This is most interesting. I had to add my 2 cents. 1 - at all times please / please have your safety glasses on or a face shield, when the primmer goes off unintended it loves to puke out all sorts of sharp things, very small. 2 - I have loaded well over 1,000.000 rounds of shot gun and pistol, never had this issue, once the press is set up correctly, but no matter what if the issue is there I can offer a few things. insure the brass is in as good a shape as it can be, insure the primmer pocket is the correct type for the primmer, for sure if this is something that seems to cause problems, clean the primmer pocket, it would kill me to have to do the by hand, but I do know of many tumbler types that use water and pins, the brass comes out better than knew. 3 - reloading on 3 different types of machines in the past, make sure after each session, and before you start the next session check the loading machine, no matter who's unit you use, things love to come lose. 4 - once again PLEASE insure safety first, and have fun loading. J. Russell Bryan O ya, the only brass I ever have problems with is IVI, it needs to be swaged first, but even then it does get past me sometimes, but never an issue.
  12. Good afternoon. Thank you Tom. when one is upfront and true to his thoughts, it always works for me. I do hope we get to meet again some day. J. Russell Bryan Canadian Action Pistol Shooter / IPSC / ICORE / USPSA and anything else that's fun
  13. I'm in, its like the Texas Mover, O what fun!!! It's still about accuracy, just a little more stress added. SOUNDS LIKE FUN. Russell
  14. Good afternoon Guys. A few years ago, I was unable to get my hands on 38 cal bullets ( time ) and had run out of them, but had thousands of Zero's in 9mm. I loaded them the same length, and the same charge of powder as I had for my Zreo 38's. the bullets where the same weight ( 125g ) JHP. At 50 yards I found not enough difference to worry about, all worked fine and safely. As for TK, all I can say, he does great work. the 2 guns I did this with until I got the correct bullets from Zero, are a 681-c-1 and a 686 PC. Just my 2 cents. Shoot well. Shoot lots, and most of all have safe fun. Russell
  15. Hello Guys. I voted YES, shooting is shooting, and fun is fun. With a few adjustments to the scoring ( Division ) I have no issue with this. And as always, if they don't help, the don't get scored and keep the money. Just my 2 cents. Russell Canadian ICORE and Action Pistol and IPSC shooter.
  16. So I'm left handed, shot an auto all my life, and then got real dumb. I got myself a 686 PC 5 years ago, then got a 681-c-1 already set up for the Action game. I have spent a lot of cash on these cool things. I will not give up on my revolvers until I shoot a 1920, it may take me the rest of my life, but us lefties can be a bit like sticks in the mud. Russell. I have never had so much fun in the 35 years of the shooting sports. Revolvers ALL the WAY. Shoot lots of X's
  17. Good afternoon Tom. This is not good news, you have done a great job for all of us shooters. I thank you for all your work, I only had a few chances to talk to you personally, and thought you had a great attitude for the shooters. I wish you the best of luck in what ever you move on to, and I know what ever you do it will be done 100% Thank you Tom, I hope I have the good fortune to meet you in some day again, I will miss your presence at the range. 18. Good afternoon Guys. The 9x21 was brought in so we could use a 9mm bullet in the longer case, it is not allowed in some countries to shoot a 9x19, and has always been this way. Russell
  19. Good afternoon Guys. We shoot at an AP2 target for indoor matches. Time is the same, but holy crap the X is about 1.25". Try it, you wont like it. Russell
  20. Hey Guys. Now I'm totally freaked out, I paid $1300.00 CDN for this thing, and now I'm reading that it can't hit a barn door at 50yrds, holy crap. As soon as the weather is better, it's real cold up here, I will get tot he range and try it at 50yrds. My 686-c-1 custom AP revolver will put the rounds through the same hole at 50yrds, bench rest, I only wish I could do that from the free hold. Russell
  21. Good afternoon Guys, I'm up here in the Great White North. I just my new 929 a few weeks ago, I hope I can say this, but it is a nice feeling firearm, but the workmanship is lacking, I have a custom made 681-c-1 for Action Piston, a PC 686, and a nice new 617, these 3 S/W's are well made, well fitted, look great, and a hoot to shoot. The 929, feels good, but I will get better grips, I have only shot about 50 rounds through it, and only at 15yards, they all stayed in the X ring, the end of the barrel is not crowned, the goofy little comp it comes with looks goofy and, as if it was an after thought, the end of the un Crowned barrel is as rough as it gets. It looks like the cut the this after they rifled it. The sights seem fine, and even with the 124grn, 1350ft 9mm I had for my P9 with comp, it recoiled very little. I have had no real time to play with it, so I can't speak for the 50yrd shots yet. O ya, the trigger is like sand paper # 20 grit. For the money I paid for this firearm, I would have expected better, and the fact that JM's signature is on it, I'm surprised at the lack of quality. S/W could have done much better on this one. But boy is it cool, a true 9mm revolver, I will make it work no matter what. One more thing, they shipped it with only 1 Moon clip. If I ever get time in the next month I will let you know how well it will do at 50yrds. Be Safe, Shoot straight, and have lots of fun. Russell
  22. My 2 Cents. TK CUSTOM all the way. Tom has done 2 of my guns, a 681-c-1 and a PC 38/357, both guns work 100% and I love the way the clips work. I shoot mostly Action Pistol, the only issue is a speed load, if the clip is a little loose at the base of the brass, so I use speed loaders when needed. Russell Shoot lots and have fun.
  23. Hey guys. I just bought a 929, have to wait for my permit to pick it up, but should have it the first week of January. YE / HAY. I am lost, what is the issue Doug,? , the one thing I do know is that if someone tried to shoot 9mm major the brass is done. Please advise me, so I don't blow up my new really cool toy. Thanks for any help. Russell. Canadian AP / ICORE shooter.
  24. yes I ran the loads over the chrono, and it was almost the same as the 125, about a 127 power factor, I was using WST, the only thing I could think of is that I was pushing the limit of the powder, for the heaver bullet. No matter what, for me the 125 works the best. Russell
  25. Good afternoon All. My 2 Revolvers, are a S&W 681-c-1 custom made for Action Pistol, wings and all, the other is a S&W 686 Performance Centre, with rail and under lugs. I have always shot a 125 bullet at about a 128 power factor. sorry both are 38/357. I only just started using a revolver in 2010. Shot an auto always, I know what a goof. But have gotten into a little ICORE at out club just north of Toronto, and will try to shoot a few matches in the US next year. Both revolvers have scopes as well. But for sure the light bullet moving faster gives me very little recoil through the scopes. ( I am 6'-2" at about 270 ) and work with my arms all day. For my last AP match this past September I had no choice but to load the 158 Zero, holy crap did it kill me on my score both days, the recoil was so hard and slow I shot a 470 and a 468 on the Barricade, this should have been a 480 both times, the other AP events sucked as well. I just could not control the recoil they way I can with the 125. All I can say is that I will try to never run out of 125's again. The 2 ICORE matches I have shot, the load and round worked great.
