  1. No, no issues getting into a match. You are right, why not let everyone in. Now that I think about it, they should let you in the superbowl just so your feelings don't get hurt. Everyone should get to play if they want. And soccer trophys for everyone.
  2. That sounds awesome. A rifle only match. No shotgun....Like we expect to be invaded by Canada Geese...
  3. I wouldn't exclude, only grant priority by class. Matches would still sell out but there would be a defined pecking order. Like saying top 200 shooters who submit a match application...
  4. I like option 1. Higher class gets priority. I think it borders on ridiculous to have nationals and area matches with people competing for best D class shooter in the nation or area. You can earn your way in by moving up. I don't want that to sound snobby or elitist either. Just trying to relate this to other sports. Major tournaments, championships, etc. Are earned slots. NFL, MLB, PGA, MMA, etc. This is all for fun. No cadillac to be won. That said, if there is a cut to be made, it should be performance.
  5. Play with powder and speed. Some powders may be better suited to minor. For example, a slower powder may not burn completely at lower velocities where a faster powder does. Complete burn should be cleaner and more consistent.
  6. I have found faster powders to be quieter. Have you considered a different division or gun for indoor? Not sure how ofter you switch back and forth.
  7. We need you to relocate to the east side so you can join us at Rio
  8. SIG keeps racking up the reasons to be unlikeable. Seriously. Have you tried warranty with MecGar or SIG? Someone should stand behind their product or at least sell a replacement. I just need to sell my 226. it hasn't been touched in years.
  9. Soooooo, what do you do with the hazmat you create with that stuff?
  10. I have been using Bullseye because I could find it. Does everything I want, is fairly clean, and it smells nice.
  11. Tight/loose and reliable/unreliable are not necessarily related. That said, tight feels different when shooting. So tight, reliable, and accurate would be my choice.
  12. Yeah, 9mm guns can be close on weight. None of the cuts all tne way through will fly. Serratioms, tri topping, and the like are OK as is internal. You can usually lose everything you need from inside the grips, the frame cut under the grips, and/or a GI guide rod. I like flat topped and serrated or a clark rib vs tri topped.
  13. I crimp in a separate station. It is easier to set up. I use the Lee factory crimp die including with .223
  14. Most of the major gun manufacturers have done something anti-gun at some point. I think most of them have learned. And not everyone has the balls Magpul has. I think Obummer has provided some degree of unity and direction to them. Until one of them does something anti-gun in contemporary times, I have reset my scoreboard.
  15. a 4 inch will not hold you back in any way until you have shot a few matches and have a better idea of what you want. Is it optimal, no, but the first few matches will have so much going on mentally reliability is really the only thing that matters.
  16. What are you trying to do? Are you talking weight, aesthetics, grip, magwell? The options are endless within the strict confines of God's division.
  17. I have to vote CZ custom because they are local. They do very nice work and are all shooters too.
  18. Nike baseball cleats do very well for the gravel we have at most ranges in AZ. The baseball cleats are a little softer rubber so you don't slip on activator boxes or fault lines.
  19. Titegroup is sooty at any powerfactor. You will notice it takes a while to tumble the titegroup stain off theone side too. other than that, no harm. I would chrono and shoot some for groups before loading a ton. I think you will find very little difference between the major and minor for steel. It is 85% mental. All that to say, never feel disadvantaged by shooting a 45. you can win that match with it!
  20. Major/minor is dumb. Modern ammo negates the difference between 9/40/45. So why are there more points for major? I don't think it makes .40 obsolete either. load .40 minor. So you have one reload. You can get over that by shooting SS for a while. Cost of ammo, less wear on guns, and, let's face it, we all have major and minor guns just because or for steel matches. Use the major gun for practice or rebarrel.
  21. Are you seeing improvements in your dry fire sight picture and mechanics? I know I have made live fire improvements whenever I am twice as hard on myself in dry fire. Sight picture, trigger pull, called shots, etc. it can be very easy to let yourself "cheat" because you don't have hits to make you mad at yourself if not all As.
  22. Group shooting is always helpful. I do it in almost every practice session. Confirms zero, reminds me it is me and not the gun, and grounds me. Something similar I do is put a small plate at 25 yards or more and draw to it on the clock. If everything isn't perfect it shows up in a hurry. Typical match shots suddenly seem very easy.
  23. I probably should have stated that better... I think his current reload ability would only be a factor on standing reloads and even then it is pretty good. based only on the standing example. Now if it falls apart when moving, that would be something else completely practice-wise. You are right that hitting a 1 step reload will come up frequently but again, I think he could hit that as is. Almost all mental at this point. I shoot mostly SS and can appreciate obsessing over reloads. That said, there is almost always something more productive to work on once you get down near a second.
