  1. I think your asking the wrong person that question.
  2. Max...Max...Max. You guys are running this as a business...no? You do know the first rule of customer relations of a business is that the customer is always right (even when their wrong)? The second rule....always give the customers a little more than they expect. Seems that you missed rule #1 but got rule #2 right...because I don't think Eman or TJ expected this rant. Go back and read your post and honestly ask yourself...does the above NOT sound like a personal attack because it sure sounds like one to me (i.e what a joke...your closed mind..better than everyone else.....attitude, etc) evidently. Max you're an ambassador to the sport and along with the glory comes the fact that you are held to a higher standard like it or not...sorry but the above just took it down a notch.....in my opinion which I'm sure isn't shared by everyone else. Just calling 'em as I see 'em. And now I expect a moderator to be by any second now to shut this down.
  3. Another one I like is the Handgun World Show. Bob Mayne runs it and its a nice combination of practical pistol shooting (somewhat slanted toward IDPA) and defensive use with handguns. It doesn't get overly technical but there is good information here for newer shooters. http://www.handgunworld.com/
  4. Posted on a different forum.... Renton Fish and Game Club is hosting an "IPSC 101" class for any new shooter who presently doesn't have a USPSA Safety Check card or who isn't presently approved to shoot USPSA matches and is interested in this fast-paced style of practical shooting. Upon successful completion of this class, you'll be ready to compete in any local practical-shooting competition. The class will consist of roughly 7 hours of class/range work (Saturday July 24, 10AM to 5PM with a lunch break. Lunch/drinks will provided as part of the class fee) followed by personalized coaching through your first practical shooting match to be held the following day at the Renton Fish and Game Club (Sunday July 25, 10AM to 3PM). Barring any severe safety infractions (DQ's) Sunday, the students will be given their safety check cards. The cost of the class is $75 (which also covers your match fee for Sundays match). To register for the class (or for more information), please contact me at vapors750@yahoo.com. Class size is strictly limited to 10 students. For more information about practical shooting, please visit the USPSA's website at USPSA.org. USPSA Safety Check Topics Covered: 1) Range Safety 2) Range Commands 3) USPSA Rules 4) Equipment 5) USPSA Scoring 6) USPSA Divisions 7) Live Fire Student Skills Demonstration The above covers the basics of a USPSA "Safety Check". Depending on available time...we may also cover the following elements of practical shooting. a) Strong Hand/Weak Hand Shooting Facing Uprange Starts (turn/draw) c) Movement into/out of boxes d) Shooting on the Move e) Reloading on the Move f) Gun on Table Start Positions g) Drawing to a kneeling or prone position. h) Discussion on what you can learn from Hit Factors
  5. I'm shooting my carry gun in Production....a Glock 19. Because its my carry gun, all I've changed is the connector (a 3.5# Ghost) and the front sight (a Dawson .125" FO) and rear sight (Ameriglo black serrated, .180"). Its a perfect setup for carry and it does OK in production. Because I use it for carry..I won't install an extended mag release or light springs.
  6. The beatings will continue until morale improves!
  7. That's an easy to to answer....when stuff happens you don't plan on! I started my last stage of the CO State Championship (think it was 2007) with four on my belt and one in the gun. ....Since I still had a reload and a spare, I was fine. If I'd had only two or three on my belt I may have been hosed. This reminds me of the "request" that Casey Stoner Moto GP world champion recently asked of Ducati, the manufacture of his motorcycle. He asked them to increase the strength of the handlebars because "every time it tips over (i.e. he crashes!!!!) they break off" and he is unable to finish the race. If I was Ducati, I would tell him....well then...QUIT CRASHING! What did he do during his last race? Crashed out.
  8. I'm running a STI Edge in Limited. I've got one in the gun, two on the belt and my barney feeder resides in the last mag pouch. Between all of the, I've got around 75 rounds. I haven't quite figured out why some people carry 4 or 5 140mm mags on their belt. Its just added weight they don't need and I highly doubt they need 100 rounds to complete a stage.
  9. Ah...that was a breeze. I was second up in our squad...maybe that was a good thing because nearly everyone else in our squad blew it one way or another. I had the benefit of just shooting it and not getting psyched out watching others crash and burn. It felt really slow when I shot it...someone told me I had a good time...I thought they were kidding.
  10. I just hope for the sake of having a fair and balanced forum, people deserve to hear the positive and negative sides to the class. The world isn't always rosy as it seems sometimes....especially round here.
  11. I don't know about your conversion unit...but my TacSol 2011 conversion doesn't have a firing pin block but even if it did...typically firing pin blocks are disabled by pressing the trigger .... so if you pull the trigger (even on an empty chamber) the block would be disabled and allow the firing pin to strike whatevers infront of it.
  12. I recently purchased a TacSol 2011 conversion for my STI widebody. TacSol advertises that their conversion will lock the slide back on the last round fired. In my STI, I'm finding that the spring in the magazine doesn't have enough force to push the slide lock up on the last round. So I bought a new slide lock and proceeded to take material off the back of the slide lock (i.e. to reduce the pressure that the plunger places on it). In order to get the spring in the magazine to push the slide lock up, I had to remove enough off the back of the slide lock..that it nearly pushing into the frame with almost no resistance from the plunger at all. The problem now is two fold. First, the slide is locking back on the NEXT to last round and two...the slide lock eventually works its way out of the frame after about 10 rounds and then jams up the slide. So for those of you who have a TacSol conversion...what did you have to do to make the slide lock work or did you just give up on it? How much harm is there in dropping the hammer on an empty chamber with this conversion. My only solution at this time is to count rounds to avoid dropping on an empty chamber.
  13. I think with your Spartan it would be OK. I recently ordered one for my STI widebody and had trouble right out of the gate. The upper wouldn't fit on my frame. The width of my frame was the same as the width of the rails in the slide. I contacted TacSol and to my surprise, they weren't really interested in helping me. They asked if I had someone local who could work on it me. I took it to JPL and he told me that the left rail was .0015" too tight...and the right rail was .0035" too tight causing the slide to bind on the frame. After he machined it, it works just fine. My other issue is the slide lock. The spring in the magazine isn't strong enough to push the slide stop up. I've modified a slide stop (taking material off the back so the plunger spring puts a slight amount of pressure on the slide stop) and I think that may have fixed that issue. I need to shoot it again and see.
  14. I knew him...when he was only a MASTER! Nice job Chris...way to go!
  15. A couple friends and myself have been putting on an IPSC101 training class for the last 3 years. One of the problems we face each and every class is the different skill levels of the students. Some have backgrounds in different action shooting games...while others have very little experience drawing from a holster. What we find is that after we finish with the draw/grip/stance segment, it seems that many of these new shooters continue to struggle with the fundamentals...while the advanced guys are ready to move on. We thought perhaps if we could send out some video tutorials BEFORE the class, that maybe this would help prepare those students who are less skilled and help them get up to speed faster. I'd really like to find an online link to Leatham's Shooter Ready Video as I believe this is an excellent introduction into the fundamentals...but I realize thats not going to happen. So what I'm looking for is any online video's that demonstrate the proper grip/draw/stance from an IPSC perspective (rather than the defensive/tactical angle).
  16. Actually, its much easier than that. 10.4.1 which reads in part....A shot, which travels over a backstop, a berm or in any other direction, specified in the written stage briefing by the match organizers as being unsafe. You just state that engaging a target such that the downrange impact directly strikes the concrete wall...will be a MDQ per 10.4.1.

    Sight Question

I have a G19 that I use for carry and have been playing around with in Production recently (primarily to get more familar with my carry gun). Some time ago, I put on a Dawson FO front sight (.125" x .160") and used the stock plastic rear sight. Recently I decided to replace my rear sight with a more traditional flat black sight. The problem was trying to find one that is the correct height to match the front. I found some made by Ameriglo. I ended up installing this on my G19. The combination of a .180" rear notch and a .125" wide front results in very nice light bars around the front sight.
  18. I thought the reference was obvious...but I guess not. If I could win a National Championship at 57....I'd be THRILLED!
  19. Congrats go out Paul Hendrix on his recent National Championship. Senior may not be the USPSA catagory "de jour" but from a guy pushing 50...my hat is off to you!
  20. Word to your mother! Thats exactly it! Texas Star type targets that are activated by doing something (other than shooting a plate off)...have to be completely hidden from view prior to activation to comply with 2.1.8.5. So what are the chances of a normal Texas Star being defined as a "moving target" and any one of the plates on it being considered the "activating" plate which then causes the Star to begin its (slow) movement?
  21. Ok...so lets go down the "moving target" definition path for a moment. If it were a moving target (or more specifically the plates themselves are considered moving targets), then they fall into one of two catagories, disappearing targets and appearing targets. I've yet to see a Texas Star where the plates eventually disappear so we'll proceed with "appearing" for sake of discussion. I've seen two basic "flavors" of Texas starts, those that start their movement by shooting a plate, and those that start their movement by doing something to activate them (like stepping on a bear trap, shooting a popper or tripping a wire). Ok...now shift your consideration to a Level II match. Rule 2.1.8.5 says Appearing scoring targets must be designed and constructed to be obscured to the competitor (during the course of fire) prior to activation. Which means, the plates on the Star couldn't be visible before the Star is activated. At level II matches, there is no exemption for 2.1.8.5.1 like there is for Level I. You could argue that the first class of Texas Star (the ones that don't start moving until you shoot a plate off) don't fall into the "moving target" definition (with appearing targets) but those other Texas Star that do start by doing something, certainly would seem to fit the definition.
  22. Ok now that we have resolved that one, let me take this in a different direction (that the MD of the match that Skydiver was referencing). We'll start with the first question and expand it from there. Is a Texas Star considered from a rulebook perspective a "moving target"?
