  1. When my 550 was getting sluggish, the problem turned out to be the two linkage arms - the ones about 4-5" long with a 1/2" hole in each end that link the handle to the shaft. These are held in place by two large pins - one that has a hold so you can use a large punch to reach the other one to push it out (press fit in the the Aluminum press body). When I removed these, they pivot point was dry and the interior of the shaft was heavily scored. Dillon send me two new linkage arms for free (the usual great service), and I lubed and re-installed these and the press (with all the other recommended cleaning/lube) was suddenly like new.
  2. Member numbers are not re-issued - HQ will give you back you old member number if you let them know you are a returning former member when you sign up.
  3. Call the factory and discuss the hammer situation with Brandon or Pat. The SVI hammers are cut on a wire EDM machine and there is a small line where the hammer remains attached to the metal from which it cut during the EDM process. I recall this point being in the location you are describing as a "crack", so there is a chance that the line you are seeing is an artifact of the manufacturing process and not a crack.
  4. As of the 10th of April, the highest numbers are A61833 B33 CA265 CAL1 CL255 F61834 FL3037 FY61759 FYF60991 HCL1 L3044 RD4 S1 TY61842 TYF61835
  5. If you spring for a laser barcode scanner, you cna get one with a stand that holds it up. When configuring it using the "Setup codes" in the booklet, you need: - Recognize CODE39 [a very common barcode format, generally enabled in the default setup] - No carriage return at the end of the barcode (otherwise, you'll start out positioned in the box for B hits rather than A hits)
  6. What's the story behind the change in the cam system? Is the new smaller cam a design improvement or was done for cost reduction?
  7. I believe that the key here is to make the service equally available to all regardless of who they are. If you can accommodate a big name with a shoot through so he can make it to a second match - great, as long as your no-name C class shooter who wants to shoot the same two matches is afforded the same courtesy.
  8. I'll answer this for Area 7. It depends on the host organization. The match director for the Area 7 Championship told me his staff could handle 9 squads per day, one shoot time per day, Sat and Sun plus ROs & sponsors on Friday. The RO & Sponsor limit is not absolute and any competitor who understands Friday may not go as quickly (we'll start "sometime after 9:30 in the morning" rather than "9:30 sharp") is welcome to shoot with us on Friday.
  9. I have a -6rx w/+1.5 for reading, so it's a bit too thick for wrap around glasses unless I get the ones with the inserts (which means 4 surfaces to get dirty/fogged/sweaty/etc.) so I opted for a pair of industrial safety glasses with polycarbonate light darkening lemses and detachable side shields (Wolverine brand). They pass as normal glasses with the shield removed. I found an optometrist who was experienced in this area, and he recommended a focal point 21" in front of the front sight for my master eye for Limited shooting. That's close enough to allow the front sight to come into clear focus within the limited range of focus I have left, and doesn't mess up my distance vision as much as tuning it exactly to the front sight. The left eye was calibrated to the same distance, and the RX shifted by -.25 to the distance for a bit better "walking around" vision. The combination is great, provides reasonably good distance vision (good enough to pass a driving eyetest), and a comfortable and crisp view of the front sight.
  10. In the old days, the nub on which the actuator level (the trianguar doohickie) pushes to engage was not secured at both ends and it would, with time, break off. Design improvements have resolved that issue and the nub is now secured at both ends so it's not serving as a lever arm looking to break. This is a case where the material is fully up to the functional requirement of the job (I haven't broken one since the design improvement) however, some people recognize the difference between "just good enough" and "the best material" - just as some care about the difference between 4340 and 4140 on a carbon steel gun. I don't consider zinc castings to be a high grade material for anything, but then, not everything needs high grade material.
  11. First off, Dillon will take the 1050 back if you don't like it. My feelings about my 1050 are more of the "my cold deal reloading room" variety. Some valid points are made - the powder measure (the part that attaches to the plastic hopper) does appear to be made out of a low grade metal, and the stamped sheet metal wrench is pretty close to useless - two minor details not in keeping with the otherwise excellent quality of the machine. I don't see any of the tolerance issues that are mentioned though, and mine has been working wonderfully for 15+ years. The only part that "wore out" was the lever that moves the primer bar - it took a slight bend and didn't fully move the powder bar. On cheap part later (remember, the 1050 warrantee is limited, not lifetime) my press was as good as new.
  12. This was caused by a directory protection misconfiguration on the server, which has been corrected.
  13. I'd suggest you send all registered competitors a personal confirmation of attendance along with a copy of NY penal code 265.20-13, and also caution that the NY and Albany airport police have a reputation for not necessarily being fully congizant as to the import of this statute.
  14. I run the tumbler in my basement workroom, but I take it outside for sifting for just the reason you specify. Doing so inside is not a great idea; doing so in a food area is a terrible idea.

  16. The partially obscured name on the jacket in #3 is a distraction. The text in gun photos should server a purpose as part of the photo or be absent.
  17. Mass General Law, Chapter 131, Section 131G: http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/140-131g.htm
  18. Here in MA, you're allowed to use deadly force against a dog if it's worrying you or livestock, however, pets are not specified. One of the local USPSA members is an attorney who has an excellent track record defending in self defense cases, but to date, has only handled self defense against canines (with a 2:0 record), if you could getting the shooter off with a $50 civil ticket for carrying on federal land a "win".
  19. A good reply: "And what is it about your qualifications that make your opinion on this matter of any significance?"
  20. Excellent - how did they catch the miscreants? A friend had a stolen gun recovered, but the recovering PD insisted on keeping the gun until the case, and all possible appeals, were concluded. The only reason he was able to get the gun back was because the defendant turned up dead.
  21. If some of the other reports are true: ... in an AR with several M16 parts, a selector switch that would move into the position used for full auto, owned by someone with a history of selling full auto conversion books at gun shows and of suing the police.
  22. Well said. The real question is "should people with no chance of winning, and who know that going in, be forced to pay a fee to make sure the more highly skilled competitors are paid to attend the match?"
  23. Another curiosity - if you have a single valid FFL number you can go to the ATF web site and download the complete list of FFLS (excluding 03 C&Rs). One of the systems I manage does this every day at about 2AM. It's kind of interesting running queries looking for "walmart" to see just how many of their stores sell guns and ammo.
  24. Glock is very generous with parts, but will not send parts to anyone who is not a certified armorer. Tell them you can have a Glock armorer fax his certificate so Glock can ship the part to him (I expect they will be willing to do this for free if you convince them that is indeed the problem part). I'll fax them my cert and we can meet at the Hopkinton club for the install, no charge. Rob Ooops..... I frequent two forums, and thought I was on the one for local shooters when I posted this.
