  1. I've been in that situation a few time. Not acceptable every month. I'd have to be getting paid a lot. Get more people to help you. agreed. that gets old real fast. you didn't mention how many bays or shooters you got. at my club, we use 1 big bay, and usually have 10-15 shooter per match we shoot 4-5 stage a match, but only set up 1-2 stages at a time, shoot those, tear down/reset, the next 1-2 stages. we rotate match directors monthly, partly to prevent burn out, and partly to have a different flavor match every month. if I'm the match director for the month, the setup on the first 2 stages are simple. something a couple guys and myself can setup easily. once the rest of the gang arrives, everyone helps. during re-setting, they are ether helping with the stages or police brass. think of your role as more a foreman, than a laborer. our range is windy, 15-25 mph wind is average, so we built our target stands to take 2x2 sticks for strength. for our vision barriers, we use 2x2, and use the targets stands for the bases. we have used plywood (too heavy, too much sail area), black dust fencing (light, too much sail area) white latice fencing (light, wind sort of goes thru it) shade cloth, light, too much sail area) and finally we started using plastic orange construction fencing, great stuff, light, wiind flows thru it. we made frames with 2x2, 8' long by 6' high, with the bottom of the frame having a 2x2 1' off the ground to secure the bottom of the fencing. zip tie the fencing to the frame.
  2. that looks like an egw gun the comp looks like a 5 port egw the machine work from the comp to slide gap, (or lack of one) and slide lighting cuts looks great. George smith post here from time to time and might reconize his work
  3. I have a bud who blew up a mint 03 springfield, sent the top of the receiver thru the roof, into low earth orbit, had schrapnel bounce off his thick skull. blood every where, luckly other than a few scars, there was no perment injuries. the cause, he some how mixed up titegroup for W748, he gave up re-loading rifle right there on the spot. like the others have said, pull the heads, salvage the components. unless you know how to get it to osama bin landin
  4. this may be a long shot, but check your brass. I went thru something similar after I switched from 115 to 147 in my 9. the 147's being longer, would cause fat rounds with certian brands of brass, due to the thickness of the brass towards the bottom of the case. I don't remember which brands they were, but I do remember ditching all my IMI brass with the tzz headstamp. I shoot federal brass now and have not had a problem in a long time.
  5. Jay the dealer sample was a hell of a deal, it was an unfired used gun. le trade in guns would run the gamit from worn out to shot only for qualifications. if they offer hand picked selection, I would go that route. the early 3rd gen. 5906 had squared trigger guard, the latter one were round. also some where along the line, they went from a solid forged hammer and sear to a lightened mim one. like tony S45, I would look for a round trigger guard, adjustable rear. if all they have available have fixed novak rear sights, novak sell a adjustable rear that fits the cut. but the front will be a little short. the gun I got from cdnn had the mim hammer and sear. I was a little leary at first, but it's held up fine so far. if that bothers you numrich gun parts may have the forged hammer and sears.
  6. these guys invented it http://www.magnaport.com/
  7. well from one sgt to another, my back ground with the 5906 is similar, factory trained armorer, spent alot of time taking them down for inspection. although my certification expired a long time ago. it's my current duty gun, and in the early 90's I shot it box stock in limited. when uspsa added production class, it was a no brainer for me what gun I would shoot. I got a dealer sample gun from cdnn. used the knowledge I learned from S&W and a bit of experimenting to do a trigger job. add a bladetech holster and my old safariland pouches to finish my production rig. got my M card in march. I love the feel and heft of the gun, and the single action trigger re-set is short, just about the same as my caspian raceguns. on short hoser stuff, my splits are about the same as my raceguns. tried a glock a couple of times, and I would pull half the shot into the ground when I tried to shoot them at speed. like tony said, different strokes
  8. I hear you, the smith 3904 or 3906 with the straight back strap grips are alot smaller than a 1911. the LOP on the double action is going to be a reach, but in single action, the LOP is very short. any smith or factory trained armor familar with the smith autos can easily ruin the sear release lever, which would allow the gun to start in single action, hammer cocked, safety on.
  9. also look at the S&W 3900 series, single stack 9mm, third gen. the 3903 has an alloy frame if weight is an issue, 3906 is all stanless if its not. it has a very slim grip area, although mag. capasity is only 9 in the mag.
  10. +1 on the minidv cam also if your tec. challanged like me, get a dvd recorder with a firewire connection. that way you can hook the camera to the recorder, hit record and let the machine do the work. with the money you'll save with the minidv, you'll have money left over for the recorder, plus it's cool not having to mess with vhs tapes to record the races on sunday.
  11. Bruce, this post is great timing, I'm in the market for new shades. the sunbusters look good, but I got a few questions. 1. I got a big head, physically, not ego wise , and I have touble finding wrap type glasses that fit. most are tight around the temples. do the sunbusters have a model for big head. 2. the rx insert, do they sell the insert seperately, or do you have to send your prescribtion in. 3. where do you buy them, the only placed I found online, don;t sell the rx insert? Thanks Ray
  12. depends what division your thinking of entering. for single stack or L10 the goldcup would be fine for production, the sig 226.
  13. are you running 10 rounders? I've had that happen by over inserting the mags with the slide locked back.
  14. gary smith posted a while ago on the 1911 forums that the major differance function wise between his case and barstock frames were the barstock would polish nicer. http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php...ght=cast+forged
  15. scheumann on his webpage has a moly warning page. he clams the moly causes excessive wear in his barrels http://www.schuemann.com/
  16. a bunch of years ago, I used an outers fowlout II to de-lead my comps. I would chuck the barrel in a vise horizontally, plug both ends and run the rod thru, fill the barrel and comp with the solution. a few hours later, the lead would turn into a black goo that would come out with a q-tip. although the torch idea sounds alot faster.
  17. no for limited with highcap mags, 4 is just about right. uspsa stages tend to have a higher round count than idpa. also even on a 20 or 30 round stage, having an extra mag may help, if you blow a re-load, gun jams, etc. and on a multi string stage, you may find 4 mags may not be enough.
  18. it might, some time in the next hundred years. the lock is very simple, it's basicly a large spring loaded ball bearing that is retained by metal cap with the lever sticking out of it.
  19. the tec loc offers a little adjustability as far as cant. it also locks the holster and pouches in place, thats great if your running a 2 belt system, but it would be a pain if your running your belt thru the loops.
  20. way back when the single stack super was the ticket, I used shooting star 10 rounders. tried the wilsons and they both held 10 rounds without problems. supercomp may help, but the rimless design primarily aids feeding. the first thing I would check is your seating depth, if your loading them to near max length, the rounds may be binding on the half bottom of the tube. again if your seating depth is near max, try seating a few around 1.250 and see if that solves the problem.
  21. don't know about the new ones, but the old cr speeds came with removeable spacers to allow for different trigger guards. my vote is for the ghost. I run an old pinned one and love it, the lock is easy to do, I push it in and turn it with my thumb.
  22. here we shoot 10 round mags for everything, open, limited, L10, etc. the slide stops work on all my guns. half the guys in the club deactivated theirs, and I don't see the advantage to doing so. yes I can count past 10, and had my slide lock back early a few times. but it has also saved me a bunch of time when I lost count on a 20, 30 or 40 round stages. there is nothing like the feeling of hoping/praying/wondering if there is that one last round in the gun to engage the last target in the stage.
