Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I don't own this ICE. Just borrowing it. Otherwise I might consider the offer.
  2. I've been shooting L10 with a 1911 for awhile now. I recently got an sti framed open gun w/o a magwell. I was surprised how easily it indexed for me on the draw. I then put on an ICE magwell, and now the dot is always just over the the cmore window when I start to dryfire. I think I can train myself to get used to it so my index will be right. But should I? Or will I sort of be fighting the tide on this?
  3. Yup. I got all fired up to shoot it. But then I found out the classifiers don't get scored, so now I'm back to signing up in L10 even though I would be perfectly legal in SS. (8 round mags and all)
  4. Wow. So what was the result? Did the hammer just fall completely? Did it go to half-cocked? That's a little disconcerting.
  5. Yeah, they are sort of angled. They do have a small radius, but they're not like the one wilson I have, which should be noted, has not cracked.
  6. I shoot a Springfield 1911 45. I noticed the other day that 4 out of 5 of my mags have a hairline crack on the back of the right feed lip. Each crack is exactly the same. I don't see any evidense of the gun hitting the mag anywhere around the crack. I can't feel the slide making any contact with the mag. These are not cheap magazines. I don't drop them on the floor during practice. I don't store them loaded or anything like that. My first instinct is that the mags are bad. But my buddy got some of the same mags at the same time, and none of his are cracking like this. ... but on the other hand, he doesn't practice nearly as much as I do. Any ideas?
  7. I did some tinkering with this problem. Not sure what happened, but it's not doing it anymore. I just did a little polishing and some cleaning.
  8. Just an update.... I do appreciate all the help you all gave. I did check into all recommendations, but I settled on a smith and wesson light weight revolver for her. The grip is small, She can load it herself. She likes it. It's a 317 kit gun. We tried a P22. It was a jammamtic. The others had grips too big or the guns were too heavy. I decided that making a new smaller grip probably wouldn't work out that well. Thanks again.
  9. I have a springfield 1911 .45. I shoots well. But recently it has developed a nasty characteristic that I can't quite figure out. Normally the trigger weight is about 4 pounds. But sometimes I shoot, and go to shoot again...sqeeze.....harder.....harder....and then the gun fires. It seems like the 4 pound trigger just turned into a 25lb trigger. Once I manage to get that shot fired, it might do it once more, but then it'll be back to normal for a long time. Any ideas?
  10. uhhhh, I'm a right with left eye dominance. I had great success in cutting over to lefty in rifle shooting. So now that I'm taking up pistol shooting, I decided to follow the same plan. It's definitely harder right now to keep good trigger control with the left hand while shooting very quickly. But I'm pretty confident that it'll work out better in the long run.
  11. Flex, This will actually be her third. First was a single shot 22 - that we painted pink. Then came the air rifle because she wanted to shoot with me down in the basement - that's a niiiice gun. Now that I'm starting to shoot pistol instead of rifle, she wants a pistol also. I know some may read this and think she's getting spoiled, but I'm pretty inclined to take advantage of the years that she actually wants to hang out with dad! Don't worry, she gets her share of spankings, and her brother and I do plenty of emergency lobotomies, and limb rearrangings on her dolls. That keeps her in check! hehehe I'll check out the 87t. The buckmark grips were too big. I might just buy something light and small and see if I can't fashion some grips myself. The catch is that she's got her younger brother that is absolutely dying to start shooting....I guess these are good problems to have...
  12. We went to the gun store today. Sig trailside - grip to big. If I could find a smaller set of grips for it, I'd probably buy it. Noes - too heavy for her rugers - grips too big Smith and Wesson 317 - she liked it... a lot. It fit her hand nicely, and it was nice and light for her. Anyone have any bad experiences with one of these little liteweight revolvers? I read some bad things about the the light ones chambered for 357, but not much about the 22.
  13. You guys are a wealth of information. Thank you. The 22 upper idea is a good one. I tried having her grip the LW commander w/ 22 top - even with no grips to make it skinnier - but it was still too big for her. My buddy has a p22 and it does fit my girl fairly well. However, I did some searching on the web and Mark's statement about it lasting 2500 rounds was not unique. So I'm hesitant to go that route. I'd be willing to put out much more than $200 for this thing, but I don't want something that's going to crap out at 2500 shots. I'll get to the store to check out the others. I checked out the steel challenge. That does look fun. Looks like it would be a better place for a kid to start out, as opposed to IPSC. No running around, no reloads. But she's got a ways to go before even that.
  14. That's funny - shoot a stage or two, then go off and pick flowers. We have a steel match that I haven't been to yet. Not sure if it's a steel challenge or not. (I'm just starting this game myself...not even sure what steel challenge is) I'll check out the p22.
  15. I've got an 8 year old girl that wants to start pistol shooting with me. She's already got a single shot rimfire rifle that she's been practicing with for a few years now. So she knows the basics. So I'm wondering if there's any consensus on what's a good starter pistol for a small kid. I think it should be a .22. And it needs to be small and light. Any ideas?
