  1. Shred, Did know they switched, I've still have a few thousand of the old that I haven't used. Rich
  2. It is sometime in December 2006. The 2000 and one year should be tossed. Rich
  3. Starlines brass for the 9x23 is stamped "9 super comp". Rich
  4. Well since there are now over 20 GM's I would say more are shooting 9 than 40, but that shouldn't influence your choice. The only thing that matters is that you the shooter like how the gun functions. With the 40 with a 180 you feel the slide is too sluggish use a lighter bullet. If in a 9 the recoil is too snappy use a heavier bullet. If the cost of ammo is influencing your choice you are looking at this the wrong way. Rich
  5. Cy, Did you forget you have XD's to shoot. Rich
  6. Steve, You have asked the never ending debate of 9 or 40. To answer this ask some friends to let you shoot their guns in 9 and 40 and decide for yourself. There are a lot of opinions on this don't be pushed one way or the other by someones word. Rich
  7. An #18 fixed rate recoil spring is the magic weight for the Tactical (9mm-.40) in major or minor. Yes a lighter spring can be run but it will eventually fail you at some point. Ejection will be a shorter distance as you go down in power factor with the #18. I've run .40's at 115 pf with an #18 spring, the brass just rolls out over your hand. Rich
  8. wide 45, You high lighted the rule that makes the gun illegal (19). STI is starting with a short slide so they would have to use a short barrel. They produced a new model gun which after 500 produced you can modify other models, if it is legal. As far as I know STI never produced a short slide with a barrel sticking beyond it till the Trusight so where is the factory standard. This whole thing can be twisted around to how one wants to see it. I see it as a weighted device, an extended sight radius, and a comp. Once again USPSA can't follow their own set of rules. In mpolan's idea a shortened 6" slide by 1" with a 6" bull barrel with a dovetail for a front sight or better yet a tungsten coned bushing. Ya thats the ticket. If the Trusight is legal then this set up would have to be legal. Rich
  9. Mike, Maybe the top tier of A,B,C,D want up close and hoser targets, OK maybe some of the M's. The top tier of GM's and M's want hard shots and stages that test gun handling skills of the highest level. Naturally they are going to be best on those types of stages. They have to shoot what the majority want. Right now that is more bang for their bucks. Have I been left in the dark, there are more than two sports channels (ESPN and ESPN2). But what would anyone expect when our local movie theater is just now showing RockyIII and Jaws II. Rich P.S. What happened to filming the Single Stack Nationals.
  10. This set up is also a sight radius extension which is supposed to be illegal in Limited. Rich
  11. 06-03 Nothing like having a classifier that's slanted towards speed, no sights needed. What's this classifier supposed to test reloads? What a waste of ammo. Rich
  12. Just to let some know that when the M&P came out it was almost $500.00 dealer cost. Two months later the price was dropped $50.00. Some dealers may still have some at the original pricing. I've got one of the higher priced units to do testing. I guess S&W relized that they were almost out pricing the gun for the targeted market. Rich
  13. With this it puts the S&W M&P, CZ Shadow, and XD .45acp on hold till 2007. What else came out new this year? Rich
  14. Tacblack, Ross Carter makes the 5oz guide rod, he is out of them right now. Give them a call or e-mail. Ross is a member here on the forum. 870-741-2265 www.cartercustom.com Rich
  15. If anyone happened to come across a Safariland rig on stage 8 on Saturday afternoon, I will need it back before next years match. About the time I pulled into the driveway it dawned on me that I left it there. Thanks, Rich
  16. At the SSC/Nationals Springfield was going to talk with John A. about adding it to the Production List. I don't know if it was approved. Rich
  17. The house has been used at every major match I've been to since it was put up 3? years ago. Rich
  18. Bear 1142, Good choice. A fun gun to shoot but it takes two men and a very strong boy to set up and take down with the tripod. A couple of barrels in .308 makes the ammo bill a little easier to handle. Rich
  19. I didn't see one belt fed gun on your list, those are a must have. Rich
  20. Had some drive time and to help out the rules with have right now section 21 needs simple one sentence clarification with a yes or no answer. As in; Weighted attachments to mags. -NO Base pads that increase capacity. -No Grip enhancement on base pads. -No Grip enhancement on frame must be removable. -Yes Grip enhancement on slide. -No Replacement of sights of notch and post and not of factory profile. -Yes Modification of slide for replacement sights. -Yes Replacement of barrels of factory profile and caliber. -Yes Replacement of slide of factory profile. -Yes Throating of barrel. -Yes Trigger job. -Yes Replacement of springs.-Yes External modifictions. -No Aftermarket grips which match factory profile. -Yes Internal slide lightening.-Yes Aftermarket guide rods. -Yes Refinish of gun.-Yes Replacement of firing pin/striker. -Yes Extended mag release of factory profile. -Yes Replacement of hammer of factory profile. Yes Replacement of trigger of factory profile. -Yes Magwells of aftermarket or factory supplied.-No Proto-type handguns. -No #17 would read "Any handgun with actions of DA, DA/SA, Safe action/Double action like produced and for sale to the public in current and past production." ( no list, no box, no cost cap, and no units produced.) A shooter should be able to read the rules and know if their gun is legal or illegal without having to ask the NROI for a ruling. Rich
  21. The rules should be very clear and easy to determine if what you have is legal without asking John. Black and white so to speak. On a rule for numbers produced it should be, "If a gun is produced by a manufacture and is availible to the public and is with in the boudries of the division it is legal." No time limit, no number limit and no price cap. One example: If the Acme gun Co. builds a gun in .38 super and is making and selling them in huge numbers they don't want the competition to know that have already sold 2,000. They have the market cornered, they don't want someone else cashing in on their little secret. Eventually the competition will figure it out, but it might take them a couple of years to get them to production. By that time Acme has the market flooded and the competition wouldn't make money. Simple capitalism. To be perfectly honest the ruling John made on a legal part on one can go on another was wrong. If you let one gun to have an extended mag release all guns in the Division can have one. If they let one gun that comes with a factory mag well then all should be able to have one. If you want to level the playing field. Mag wells should be strictly prohibited in the division. Rich
  22. I landed in home grown American 100%, no labels needed. Rich
  23. Just a few things I know of 2 gun companies that will not tell how many units have been produced. That info is for them and them alone, they don't want the competition to know what they are doing or have done. I'm for any internal work be it milling or replacement of factory parts with aftermarket. Prime example some guns have inferior sears from the factory and after market ones are much better. How does one define Custom shops/Performance centers/factories I've been in a couple of gun manufacturing facilities. The above is in the middle of the building a step to right your in the "factory" and a step to the left is your in the Custom shops/ Performance centers. I don't think gun companies will abide by someone else telling them their product won't be recognized because of what room in the factory it was built. 2000 units sounds good but if they fall short of say 2-6-10-20 units, see you later or you are close enough you're good to go if they will even tell you the numbers to begin with. Swapping of barrels could be a good thing for the new shooters who can't afford to buy another gun. If they already have a 40 they can shoot Limited/L-10 and by putting in a 9mm barrel they can shoot Production on the cheap Wally World supplies a lot of shooters who don't reload. As to the buried Bo-mars, as a gunsmith I might think twice about being a stage sponsor for a match if you cut me out of the loop or any other work a gunsmith can do to a Production gun. Gunsmiths are the ones who keep your guns running and show the gun companies how to improve their product. As a shooter a Bo-mar is the sight picture I want to see, not some piece of crap that happens to fit the factory dovetail. One last thing with sweeping new rules who is going to be the one to tell a shooter who is a dedicated Production shooter your investment of 1,2,3,4 guns are now illegal. Because they have buried Bo-mars, extended mag releases, factory magwells, too light of a trigger pull, internally lightened slide.............................. or do grandfather them in. I've got more but there's six slides that need to be milled for Bo-mars and need to lightened. Rich Rich
  24. A low mount Bo-mar on an XD weighs the same as the stock slide and sights. Nothing gained nothing lost, they just look good and they are adjustable. I was asked earlier this year by a match director if a Glock gun being shot was legal. A bo-mar was placed on top of the slide and the front sight was really tall. The Bo-mar was hanging off the back of the slide by more than a half of an inch. Increased sight radius big plus on a 34/35 heck even a 17 and it's legal, just a pain making sure the front sight clears the holster. Why now after five years there is a problem with Production, I started shooting Production in 2003 and yes there was a problem then. The rules infractions have been going down but they are still there. If you know what to look for they stand out like a sore thumb. The same things brought up here have been talked about on the Production super squad for the last three years. For every magical solution to help stop the perceived arms race there are pros and cons. If and when the BOD can figure out what Production IS (with definition), then a set of rules can be enacted. Hopefully they will be bullet proof and black and white for many years. If you have a problem with extended mag releases, trigger jobs, lightened slides, sight installs, mag wells, hammers, grip tape ............... Tell it to the BOD members again and again (sorry BOD members) maybe they can get this problem solved with your input. The goal this year by the Production crowd should be to have more Production shooters than Open shooters at the Nationals. Maybe then Production will get recognized as a force to be acknowledged and feared. I got to go get my gear ready for my turkey safari tomorrow. Rich
