  1. Cy, Haven't had the time to get to it, maybe when I do a trigger job on it. Rich
  2. Most of the gimmicks being developed to improve a shooters performance is a waste of money. Take the money and use it for a shooting class, for practice ammo, or a major match. That would be money well spent to improve your shooting ability. With that said. If someone builds a gun with a 6" slide and a 5" barrel. Take the slide and cut away the slide to a 5" profile except the top of the slide with the front sight. A 5" barrel is legal, a 6" slide is legal, and lightening a slide is legal. Is the gun legal? I'm building one right now for kicks and grins, all I want is the extended sight radius. Rich
  3. To those who want the guns to be used in Production to be in factory condition, with no mods. What is your answer if the manufacturer makes a gun with all of the wanted mods. Do we say no you're making the gun too good for the division. The biggest problem is the lack of equipment checks at major matches and the inconsistancy of rulings of the rules. Take a look at the aproved gun list the M&P is legal for Production in 9mm, 357sig and .40. The 9mm and 357 haven't even been released to the public. The CZ "Shadow" is still being evalulated. The XD .45 acp hasn't been added to the list. John A. needs to be at every one of the Area matches and the Nationals and do equipment checks. If someone is found to have an illegal gun or equipment shake their hand and welcome them to Open. Most of the talk of equipment will go away. Rich
  4. I looked at the Production legal gun list and lo and behold the M&P 9, 357, and 40 are legal. When were the 9's and 357's released? Rich
  5. It's up on the NROI section under policies. Rich
  6. Can anyone say 100 yard TX* Standards. Rich
  7. IPSC poppers and IPSC paper targets are missing the top of the target (head). I would say those targets aren't practical, they are just PC. Rich
  8. An off the shelf gun with no mods lets see CZ Shadow, S&W 5" 5906........The gun companies have already started making off the shelf Production guns with all the bells and whistles. It's a no win situation. Rich
  9. What if the RO writes down the wrong safety infraction for the DQ? or the RO DQ's the shooter and writes down unsafe gun handling but doesn't state what the unsafe act was? Rich
  10. In the OLD rule book lightening a slide was prohibited. In the current rule book that rule was removed. Several BOD members said it was removed on purpose and not left out by mistake. Mill away, nothing like a pile of chips on the shop floor. Rich
  11. The #18 recoil spring is the weight that works the best(.40 and 9mm Tacticals). It has to be a fixed rate spring, not a variable. It sounds like you have a variable spring. Going lower in spring weight will start to drop the reliability of the gun. You can run a lighter spring but eventually it will fail you and it will probably happen during a match. XD's are not 1911's, with most 1911 shooters they want the lightest spring possible, it doesn't work for the XD. Rich

    Gun On X

This all reminds me of a club match that had a facing up range start. I thought I needed all the edge I could get. I had my right foot turned out at about 90 degrees and my head about the same. As the RO was about to say "Are you ready" a voice from the squad said "learn how to do it right and you won't have to mess around". From that point on I started to learn and things went great. Thanks Brian. Rich
  13. Why all the rehashing of a driven into the ground issue, I don't know. Give your Area Director a call or an e-mail and tell them it's not a good thing to have a minimun trigger pull this late in the game. Rich
  14. This has come up lately in conversations," Do we need a minimum pull weight for Production?" If so what weight would be the bench mark for DA-DA like and DA/SA? I'm of the opinion it's a little late to change now, in 2000 yes but in 2006-7 no. The Division is growing fast and some have invested alot on trigger jobs to lighten and then be told you have to increase the pull weight. It doesn't seem to be a big positive for the Division. Either way one platform will have an advantage. Rich
  15. Learn to count past 2. You should know how many rounds you have left in a mag not just I plan on doing a reload here. You should know how many rounds are in a Open or Limited gun also. When your first plan goes south you know what you can do and what you can't do. You won't have to panic and make it worse. Having the slide lock working or not it's a personal thing. I learned a long time ago how to count past 2, something very rare for a IPSC shooter. Rich
  16. rtr, You need to narrow your search as in: Do you want employees? Do you want to sit behind a desk or stand behind a counter all day? Do you want an outdoor business? One that is seasonal or effected by weather conditions. A physically demanding job. A 9 to 5, 5 days a week, 6 days a week ,or 7? ( being self employed 99% of the time isn't a 9 to 5) Retail? Service? You need to ask what does Colorado Springs need? For example does it need another quick lube shop to go along with the 10 to 15 it already has. Do you want a business you can sell after it's a success or be able to retire from the sale of it. I know a guy who owned 4 roofing companies and sold them off to be a franchise resturant owner. Roofing to flipping burgers that was a big change and gamble with 5 or 6 children, he has 4 stores and going strong. Only you know what is going to make you happy. Rich
  17. Rick, Fine Home Building mag. used to do good tool comparison tests. I don't know if you can get old articals on the web.. If Hitachi is still using the stamped out steel nail magazine stay away. They can get bent out of shape easily and can cause the gun to miss feed. Make sure the nail gun you go with will use the larger diameter nails. Rich
  18. Rick, I disagree with Tom on a couple, 1.Framing nailers/staplers I've found the the Paslode and Senco are good and the nails are easily found. If I was going back into carpentry the Duo-Fast nailers/staplers are the ones. The nails are a little harder to find but if you buy them by the pallet they cost much less. In the 80's if you bought a pallet of nails they would give you a nailer. We tried them all and the Duo-Fast required the least amount of rebuild or parts. We used more than 16 daily on big projects. 3. Bosch or Milwuakee, the bigger the better (1 1/2). Personally I hate the SDS system, but it is ok. I did mainly light commercial and residental work and I've seen my share of tools fail. Don't be cheap when buying equipment. It my seem your getting a deal but in the long run you will end up having to buy another one. The guy's always liked working on my jobs because I bought the best equipment and they make the work easier. Tools are to be used not abused. Rich One more thing ear protection use them, it is very easy to loose your hearing running nail guns and hammer drills and eye protection. The sound of a nail gun is more damaging to your hearing than the sound of a gun shot.
  19. Hey, Anybody up for a major Standards match, say 10 to 12 stages. Rich
  20. It was either the first or second Factory Gun Nationals Todd and Rob were being questioned by a writer on the shooting skills and matches. Todd said something like this, shooting an Area match(early to mid '90s) was the best practice for the Nationals and shooting the National's was like 10,000 rounds in practice for the World Shoot. Both agreed that the last challenging Area match was the '96 or '97 Area 5 match, the one in Indiana. They clarified that shooting Area matches present day were challanging but they just don't test a shooters skill like what was done in the past. I never did see an article with that conversation in it. Rich
  21. 13 pages and still we have the same problem, the rules are not being enforced at major matches. Please tell me in the history of Production when was equipment checks made on Production equipment at ALL Area matches and the Nationals. I have shot the last three Nationals and there were no equipment checks. Lets make 2006 the year it starts. It is a huge task to know the ins and outs of every make and model. To put it down on paper would be like phone book and every year it would have to be up dated. If equipment checks where made from day one, we would not be here today at 13 pages. Why weren't equipment checks made in the past? A better question is who is USPSA going to send to ALL of the Area matches and the the Nationals to ENFORCE the present rules. Rich
  22. I got a M&P in and did a quick inspection and a 50 round test fire. In the 50 rounds I had five failures to fire. All rounds had a light hit on the primer and when rechambered they all fired. The interesting thing was those five happened when shooting the gun as fast as I could. The rounds were reloads I use in function firing and Production loads, 180 grain Zero JHP with 3.5 grains of N310 and small rifle primers. I know small rifle primers but these primers have always worked in any gun I've used them in. Has anyone had the same thing happen to them? Rich
  23. The S&A grip safety is solid, the Springfield will be hollowed out on the inside not much room to grind on. The S&A can be cut like a Ed Brown be careful on the hammer notch it can get real thin in that area. Rich
  24. I spoke with Scott Warren on a fixed sight for the XD and he said it's in the works. The Dawson fixed are a good choice also. The Bo-mar is a great choice for an adjustable sight on the XD. Rich
