  1. If you look at JP's captured buffer system you will also see that you can get a set of springs. By swapping out the springs you can find your sweet spot. Jay
  2. If real life had me shoot 15 badguys in one course of action i would agree. However it is my humble opinion "when shit gets real" You'll remember your real training and not what you do for a game.[/quote I like to train as I'm chasing 1 guy who's dodging me and I'm filling him full with 30 rounds. I also don't like empty starts, an while I shoot a different gun in competition I use the same safariland duty holster. Jay
  3. Remember that if a round comes back at you it usually comes straigh back along the bore, ofter hittin you in the arms, hands, and face. I took a round off steel over the right eye, half inch above glasses. Eric Miller took a like splatter to the temple this weekend, Eric Lund, same thing at Ozarks a few years back. I am sure the list is long, as the more you shoot the more likely that you have been hit. I wont let people shoot our local matches without real safety glasses jay
  4. We are a few weeks away, just wanted to remind everyone that we have a BEER GARDEN planned for Saturday night after the match, just like last year. Round count. 20 slugs 20 00 buck (#4 buck ok for 20 ga) 275 minimum birdshot No high brass shells will be needed. If you have some loud, loud shells going off we will check your ammo and you may incure a stage DQ. Jay
  5. The stage idea is a good one, and we did it last year and it worked well. The results are http://mn3gungroup.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/2013_TSC_Final_Scores_-_TACTICAL.pdf and you are looking for STAGE 7.
  6. Yes, That is why we are tying to solve this. Jomar's spreadsheet does this stage perfectrly. Trying to find the best solution for the new system.
  7. Jomar and I tired a variety of calculations from 1 sec to 5 seconds bonus to penalties. We are tring to make so that if a troubled shooter shoots only 50 percent of the targets they get a score that matches at 50 percent. So last year we had a shooter who hit 25 and got 100%. Another shooter got 12 and got 48%. So this was our exact concern that we did not want to have happen. We did not want to over penalize. Take Mark's example above, and let me change the numbers a little. 25 second fix time and 5 sec per target. Clean gets you a score of 25 sec and 100%. Five misses gets you 50 seconds and a stage score of 50%...regardless of how many targets are on the stage Jay
  8. We are still building stages. But a rough idea that I woul suggeste would be 275 birdshot, 10 slugs, 20 - 00buck. Jay
  9. Wow, been a little while since I posted. I have some updates to make, gonna have to do that later on tonight. As for right now, Local shooter CLINT GERNER owner of CAPITAL ARMS has stepped up in a big way to sponsor the Nordic Components Match as well as the MN 3 Gun Group. He has donated a Practice Score System with all the tablets and hardwear needed to run a 12 plus stage match. We are going to begin testing it immediatly this weekend at a local 3-gun. Thanks Clint. Jay
  10. Who is fielding teams for this. Who is on the US Team or Teams. How bout the Special Teams? Brian Payne, Jomar Villamor, Chris Cazin and I are set up as JP Enterprises/Nordic Components, Minnesota 3 Gun group Law enforcement team. Jay
  11. Brian, I think we have done that with out match. We have already put so many checks in place. Our staff of you, Villamor and I have no advantage beyond anyone else. When we shoot we have the same set up as the rest of our 20 person staff. I will say that after running a large match I am exhaused and don't even want to be aroung guns for a few weeks. We saw our scores and abilities suffer last year as a result of the massive amount of a 1 day shoot and all the stressors leading up to the match. Of course, I am not going to let any of that affect me this year. Jay
  12. I gonna chime in here. First I am the co-match director for the Nordic Components Shotgun Match. Brian Payne is the Range Master. Brian and I go back a few years. He is beyond reproach, a more honest person you will not find. But don't piss him off or throw a stick at him. If for any reason someone were to tell him he could not shoot the match I would have to tell them off, in a nice way. If it were an issue for the match staff I would not let my friend be the RM. I would put him in the match, because he is a competitor and that is where he truly belongs. Our match. We set up 12 stages on thur. None is stage run troughs. Being a shotgun only match there is a little less cluster factor than incorporating all 3 guns. The entire staff will shoot it on Friday. There are 3 people who will not get carbon copies of there scores. Payne, myself and Villamor who is scoring the match. An RO will hold our sheet and they will be avail to anyone. Also our 3 scores will be posted by Friday, shooters will not see them immediately but they will be dated. We do this to prevent the slightest chance of a complaint. I can honestly say that I would not put the match on if I did not shoot it. I agree with others that I don't shoot it to my potential. I had to squeeze a stage in during the match last year as I was unable to complete the first day. I got a good ribbing for why I was doing a walk through on a stage I designed. My honest answer was that I straight up never had time prior to do a walk through. At our match the three above persons each design 4 stages. We have tried very had to proof everything, for example, Every stage will begin the same. Low ready from a designated area pointed at a designated marker. Gotta go, kid wants me to draw a flashlight. Jay
  13. Are you telling us that things are going to look very different than the past couple years. I like the 25-35 on shotgun. Well not the 25 part, but I like the 35 part of it. Jay
  14. I've always used the factory one. I like the low curved profile and never had a problem finding it. Jay
  15. The M1 which I have has a drain hole at the base of the tube, so it can be cleaned out and oiled from there if your don't want to break it all down. Jay
  16. Recoil pad off, then there is a nut on the back end of the tube, remove slowly so the spring doesn't go flying. On mine, the recoil spring tube was very dirty and the spring gummy, years without cleaning. Lots of competition and duck hunting. I did not replace the spring, I just cleaned it all up. If you get particles in there it can slow things up. If you did recently did a loading port job and got metal shavings into the recoil tube that could be problematic. Spring replacement not a bad idea. Jay
  17. Sorry, doing too many things at once, the recoil spring, so removal of the stock.
  18. I know that jam very well. I aggree that you need a new mag tube spring especially if it is the last 1 or 2 rounds. If it happens at higher levels, rounds 3 and up to your max I suggest a good take down and clean up of the inertia spring.
  19. Barry, I never had the JP mount move, once together, locktight it on the screws and all over the flat pieces. Jay
  20. My eyes are very light sensetive. I squint even on a cloudy day. I wear contacts and usually shoot wearing my Oakley persimmon lenses. They are darker than a yellow and lighter than an amber. I get enough tint to keep the sun from being overbearing. Jay
  21. Brian - Your forward sling mount on your Vinci was totally done to be cool. So cool, in fact, you did it again from what I recall. Now there's some "tactical" cooling ports there! I use a product called "safety walk." I procured a decent size roll of it last year and it will last me a long time. The black "outdoor" version is better than the rubberized one. It was very sharp, so I took a scrap piece and scuffed/dulled the surface until it was a sharp as I wanted. I have rough, dry hands and have held other's stippled shotguns. It's basically a permanent alternative to the grip tape. Start with what you can change (tape), figure out where you want the texturing, then decide if the tape is good enough or you want to take on a basement weekend beer drinking project to stipple it. Just be sure to turn a fan on. Jake, I can imagine that safety walk might just be a 3M product.
  22. I agree fully to try another persons shotgun. For the discussion, my opinion, be it as it may, is that the shotgun does not require x amount of grip poundage to control it as a handgun would. The pommel on the stock keeps the hand in position, it cannot slip backwards as a result of its cant. If shooting with the support arm extended to an appropriate length the shotgun should be pretty solid in the shoulder pocket without requiring much pressure to hold it in place. Sometimes I think I could use some stippling on the comb to keep my face in place. Jay
