  1. If you don't like the QD mounts, look at the JP, it has 5 heavy hex screws and is as repeatable as any out there. Jay
  2. Up here in Minnesota, myself and the MN 3 Gun Group put on a spring skills builder class. We tailored it to the newest of shooters, which we have a lot of. The course was attended by some who also wished to speed up there shooting. Much of what we did was handling and manipulation of the guns. We did the drills multiple times and changes a few bits as we increased in speed. We recruited 7 shooters with a lot of experience either shooting 3gun at major matches and or training firearms for LE and ran 3 stations. The bottom line of the training was to make each shooter better with the handling of their guns and in the end decreasing the time each shooter will be on a stage at a local match. It was well attended by 30 shooters. Jay
  3. The Match is in the record books. This is really the first chance I have had to write anything since the match completion. I am still trying to recover. It was my pleasure to serve as the match director. I relied heavily on Jomar, Brian, Kevin, Mark, Kenny and many others. Thank you all. Jomar summed everything up quite well and I’ll just touch on a few items. Thanks to all of you, the competitors, without you we have no competition. I hope we were able to meet your expectations for a great match. We tried to balance out our stages and give you many different and unique shooting opportunities. Huge thanks to the match staff, we asked a lot out of you and you delivered. Nordic Components, our Title Sponsor, Thanks for your friendship and support. Jarmo was at the range on Sunday morning and I was able to say thank you to him for his generosity. Kenny, you are a great ambassador to our sport, and yes after taking over as match director I do feel your pain. The Match sponsors donated some very generous prizes. I won’t go over each one again, you all heard me do that at the match. Thank you to them. As Jomar said, send them a thank you. Congratulations to the 3 division Champions, James Casanova (tactical), Patrick Kelly (pump), and Mark Roth (open), you shot your way to the top of your divisions and earned your victories. I was pleased to see so many familiar faces and meet some new friends. We had people attending the match from Washington State, California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and many other interior states. We drew a larger cross section. Thanks for attending. It was a Blast. Jay Schmitt Jay@mn3gungroup.org
  4. Awe crap, I forgot to put the gas masks on the prize table. Scores should be posted by tomorrow. I'm tired, will give some final updates soon. Thanks sponsors and shooters. Jay
  5. stages set, ro's shooting tomorrow, registration at 1500 hrs, see you all then. Jay
  6. You can walk but driving to a few stages works better especially if you're like me an always forget ammo or chokes or your gun.In the past half the stages were in one spot and half in another spot that's a few hundred yards away. We are using some other parts of the property this year that have not been used in the past couple matches. We have the ablility to spread out a little more this year. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the range, day 1 will be done by this time next Sat. Did I mention the beer garden after the match on Sat. Beer will be provided by some generous donors. Jay
  7. I will address this. Jomar in his above post did not describe how the stage will be run or the requirements placed on the shooter. That information will be released with the stage design in the match booklet. Jay
  8. Jomar's program is tried and tested. He also runs a redundant with the main. I looked into practiscore, it was offered to us. I declined. We actually have to par time stages, the Tom Knapp stage and 1 other. Jay
  9. see the post right above, and Jomar meant you know what with cluster comment
  10. The match will be well underway by this time in 2 weeks. We have the additional gold sponsor of JoeBob Outfitters on board and Surefire as a silver sponsor, thank you to them. As in Jomar's post. There will be food available for lunch at the range. If your going to forget to pack either sunscreen or bugspray, forget the sunscreen. The stages are designed and I think we have a great mix of challenges in line for the shooters. We have 5 people involved in the stage designs this year. There will be 14 stages, the smallest one consisting of 7 rounds and the largest will be 34 rounds. If you have questions please contact us. There are contact phone numbers listed on the website. http://tacticalshotgunchampionship.com/ Those who are shooting, see you in a couple weeks. 11. I hit the gas station out of roll call. Nicely done Bryan.
  12. Its bleeding over, Jomar used a 12.5 rifle at out match today.
  13. I did, Yours, Rolling Thunder for those who don;t know, looks nice. Jay
  14. Did the same thing this past Sunday morning on stage 9 at the Midwest 3 Gun. Had I read this post last week I might not have made the mistake. I was laughing after that it takes some nuts to shoot 9 shotgun targets with 9 rounds and no extra, especially when 2 are arials. I even looked on the ground but they run such a clean range, nothin there. We were trying to rush ahead and beat the impending thunderstorm which never even hit but for about 5 minutes of rain. We watched the squad in front and then skipped our walk through, I was second shooter. Lesson learned. Jay
  15. CR speeds are nice but they don't lock. Many have seen shooters loose their entire belt as the exta weight of equip pulls it off the shooter. The belt will work. Get some belt keepers and run 3 of them along with the Velcro loop that came with your belt. Jay
  16. Tim, we are doing it better this year. Eric, About the crabs, maybe !!!!!!
  17. For those looking for a place to stay, the Silver Bell motel in Fayette still has openings, there number is 660-248-3335. It aint the holiday inn but it is close. That is close to the match location. If you are eating crab legs and filet with T. Ubl and company it probably isn't for you. See you all in a week, can't wait. Jay
  18. We all try to roll with the rules of each match, RM3G won't let your run coupled mags that are not staggered, that is there specific rule. Mags are obviously neccessary to operate the gun and are not add ons. Seems most matches use IMGA rules which would resrict the VFG to not be used as support. I for 1 have seen shooters try and use them as support devices and have a great deal of trouble trying to get stable with them. Jay
  19. I run the IMGA rules for the MN3GunGroup up here in Minnesota. As always, and as we learned in another popular thread, Check individual match rules No rifle external supporting devices are allowed in this class. (i.e. bipods, vertical foregrips that are rested on ground or props. There are NO “beta/C” or drum mags allowed in this class. Only traditional double stack mags allowed. There are no compensators bigger than 1” in diameter an I'm headed to Midwest next week like a lot of you, this is off there rules, 6.4.4 Rifle supporting devices (i.e. bipods, etc.) are not allowed in this class Ozarks and Blue Ridge run similar, Certain firearm supporting devices may be prohibited by the Match Director. 5.6.1 Supporting devices that risk excess damage to props or pose a risk to shooters are prohibited. (i.e. the Hedgehog and like products are not allowed) RM3G No rifle external supporting devices are allowed in this class. (i.e. bipods, vertical foregrips that are rested on ground or props, cinched mags or mag pads/additions designed to enlarge the footprint of a single mag that are rested on the ground or props)
  20. Ken, Will we be able to access the range to walk stages before 3p, This information will impact travel plans. Thanks, Jay
  21. yeah, I suppose that I am still under the impression that shooters are among the last of the bastion. I guess without the whole story I am counting on a mistake and not an intentional. If there is something intentional I really think a full blown DQ is in order, Open would be too 'nice'. I'm really wanting some whole story here. Jay
  22. I didn't see that anyone suggested he intentional showed up trying to use the wrong equip.
  23. Here is the rule: 7.5.1 If a competitor fails to satisfy the equipment or other requirements of a declared Division during a course of fire, the competitor will be placed in Open Division, if available, otherwise the competitor will shoot the match for no score. Thats the part I disagree with, that is a USPSA rule, While this was a USPSA match this is not entirely a USPSA discussion. This could have happened at any number of major matches. That rule is written right there in 7.5.1., that is a fact. That does not make it the most viable option, nor does it make it the correct on face value. I'll throw it a little with Jesse here, I thought the discussion had concluded that a 1X and true irons were equal with neither being an advantage over the other. Jay
  24. Using a vfg as a brace against any object will get you bumped to open. Only you hand can touch it. So thaking that chance could be costly. Jay
