  1. That is an interesting comment! On a side note I see that Blue Ridge will have some optionals, steel and paper, on 3 of the 9 stages. I will be interested to see how Andy Horner set it up as his target are often not the easiest. Jay
  2. I saw that the proam shot on the golf course. Now that is a well maintained range. I know that everyone who has been there has probably wanted to do the same. Jay
  3. Yes those are. You can try the upper with the JP lower it "may" fit.
  4. You may have issues as the upper and lower for your JP CTR are machined to fit each other. It is not mil spec. I would look to find a blem lower. jay
  5. We run a unique option stage frequently. My pal Jomar likes to set up mindbender stages. These are great 3 gun thinking stages where you have limited rounds. Usually 12 rounds per gun. There are fewer targets than ammo. So you cant burn 2 rounds on pistols and rifle paper. You also ned to select doubles with the shotgun. Of course the doubles are there for the taking as lone as you are looking for them. This would not make for a good major match stage but it is a hell of a training stge for a local match. jay
  6. I like optional targets, but when they are set within a stage between the transitions so that all guns must be used. The shooter can then rely on 1 a bit more as there strengths dictate. Jay
  7. Yes. If somebody intentionally does it, out of here. If you continue on and have no ear pro-you are just stupid. Put your gun down on the ground, on safe, don't move , and put your ear pro on/in, and resume course of fire. I'm gonna go practice put ear pro back in on the clock. Never know. Jade I am pretty sure if you lay your gun on the ground you are getting a stage DQ on safe or not I have not seen that as the case or in any rule before. I have not read the proam rules however. But I as a match director I would encourage it. Our particular rules don't prohibit setting a gun down. Common sense would dictate that as long as the shooter maintains control of the gun, not walking away from it or something, this would be acceptable. Jay
  8. And hearing protection is usually required by the facility that the match is held at. If its an accident that caused the loss of ears then it should be addressed. If I was the RO and saw it, I would have told them to put the ears back on. If it is an intentional dislodging of the ears then its cheating. I would have stopped shooting and put them back on, then finished the course. I wear plugs so it is not an issue, as someone above already stated. Jay
  9. Thanks Denise, JJ and the entire staff. As a first time shooter at the JP Rocky Mountain 3 Gun, my expectations were met and exceeded. It was a flat out awesome match. Congratulations to the winners and all who finished. Especially those who shoot Limited-iron and He-man. Thank you to all the sponsors, especially my good friends at Nordic Components and JP Rifles. Thank you for the new JP-15. Jay
  10. Yes, we do but it is easy here, we dont have natural terrain. Not an ideal product for places like Rocky Mountain.
  11. I wanted to share a product that I found and used as a target backer. I bought this for 60 dollars. It is also good for walls and other applications. A roll of it will last for some time. Look into it and save some money over buying the corrigated plastics. Platon 44-1/2" x 50' Flooring Protector UnderlaymentJay
  12. We did give different points to the stages at the Nordic Comp Shotgun Match. But I don't know if it would work as well in 3 gun. What we did was assign 5 points for every target. We kept the max at 150 points per stage. We also gave slugs double points. Jay
  13. I am wondering what optional targets are. Stage 10 – Shotgun (3-ammo) - 10 bird, 3 optional bird/buck, 6 buckshot, 6 optional buck/slug, 6 slugs
  14. I have been using slide glide on the bolt with great success. Cant use it when it gets cold however. Jay
  15. Brian, want to borrow my LAR Griz 45 win mag, can handle all, including chiggers
  16. I want to try and increase the numbers in pump and open. Open is tough because of the specialty guns. As a limited shooter in 3 gun I have taken the brunt of poorly managed prize tables which focus heavily on tac ops more times than I like to temember. We had 96 tactical shooters, 27 pump and 16 open. I had 20 guns. I took 20 percent of the participant division numbers and tabled the guns there first. Open got 3, pump got 5, and by percent tac should have gotten 19 but we had 12 left. We had many other high value prizes to distribute including scopes, xrail, certificares, and more. My point is if you shoot a less populated division I am trying real hard to take care of those shooters and will continue to do so. If you read this and have another method of dividing the table let me know, I would be interested. Jay
  17. I have heard many good things said about the match this weekend, it makes it worthwhile when I know that it was enjoyed by most of the competators. Thank you all for attending. I will not bore you here with a lengthy, recap, if you want to take a look at one it is here, http://www.mn3gungroup.org/?p=865. Thanks to all the sponsors who saw the value provideing support for the Nordic Component Tactical Shotgun Match. Jay
  18. The staff hit the ground today and we have all 12 stages set up. Including building an outhouse for your pleasure, can you believe that they could not provide enough facility's and we had to construct. The staff will power through all stages tomorrow and begin to register shooters at 1600 hours. The range is in great shape given all the rain we have had. There is no standing water to contend with. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow evening. Safe travels, Jay
  19. Jesse, 34 is the highest. But not to worry, it is on a jungle run type stage and covers 1.2 miles, you can bring a mountain bike and shoot off that if you want. Jay Looking forward to seeing everyone in a couple days. The staff is hitting the ground hard and throwing the whole thing up tomorrow. That's a joke above for you that can't see though it.
  20. Even a better system, wear the dsg belt in your loops and run a blackhawk over the top, secured by keepers Jay
  21. Bryan, go with a 2 inch belt from Blackhawk or the like. If you use the DSG, the material will not fill the width of the tek lok and they will wobble around. Blackhawk belt, under 30 dollars, you will appreciate the rigidity. This belt style will hold weight better. Trust a guy who wears a heavy belt every day Jay
  22. Bryan, I use a 2 1/2 inch belt, you get alot more rigidity out of it. Uncle Mikes, Safariland, Blackhawk, you pick. Cheap and it has a fastex buckle so it locks in place. A couple belt keepers good to go. Jay
  23. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the end of the week. I have 2 words for all attending BUG SPRAY. Jay
