  1. I recall reading a post some years back about steel core ammo. Take a decent side cutter and go to work on a green tip round. Try and cut it at the tip and at the neck. This is a good way to check ammo and I think it is what we will do at one of our matches. I had an MGM Lolli set up at about 70 yards and it got turned on the fiberglass rod. That piece of steel on the back side has a hole in it the size of a nickel and the plate got dimpled real good along the left side on both plates. The shooter, whoever he was had some windage issues with his zero. Jay
  2. Why the security? Props, positions and other guns, slings at some matches. All can end you 250 dollar match in an instant. A guy bumped his handgun out of the holster while moving from 1 box to another shooting rifle. Match over. Oh and the Safariland has a much more stable attatchment platform in my opinion. Shooting a Blade Tech Doh for USPSA and Safariland for 3 gun, The Safariland will not bounce around on the belt while running. Jay
  3. A long strand of doubled over duct tape and a couple of zip ties to secure it to the shotgun.
  4. 5 pm on Thurs is a little late in the evening to get a match book and then walk stages. Will there be match book avail earlier than that or on site at the range. Jay EDIT::::::::::::: HEY DUMBASS, just look at the website and print off the stage designs, there I said what everyone was thinking. Turbo
  5. I've had some experience with synthetic motor oils. Found that they are so slick that if there is a small oil leak with a conventional oil, there will be a big leak with synthetic. Tar I read somewhere, and I don't think it was covered here but another poster did say they add ATF to there synthetic. I am under the impression that the ATF adds a "bonding" component to keep the lube in place. Jay
  6. I posted a question on this some time ago. I finally got around to getting a security holster for 3 gun that is almost the same as my work holster. The Safariland 6360 - 419 for the M and P .45 is what I made work. I removed the ALS portion of the holster. I used a heat gun to bend a small lip of material that contacted the left side of the grip. This makes for a very secure holster, carried hammer down or hammer back, the hood works in either configuration. Jay
  7. Sorry, The title is 'safety glasses "saves" ' So I just put a 'save' in. He was wearing his glasses and the clay "detonated" right in his face. Bruised and battered but his eyes were OK. I cannot remember any cuts, If he had them they did not require medical attention. Jay
  8. I was setting steel right next to a fella who was leaning over and setting a clay on a flipper. The popper came down and shot that clay straight into his face.
  9. Again, It is the mental aspect, not the gear itself. Example, "I make a tactical decision at a match." That means I choose what "Tactics" will help me in the match, be that I go prone or kneeling, or supported, or where someone chooses to shoot from to gain advantage. Tactical is simply putting Tactics into application. I vote to keep it, I agree that the name sells. Jay
  10. Tactical, in 3 gun, I think is less in reference to the gear and more of the metal methods used to solve the problems. Even though many stages are strictly designed to be accomplished in one way. Although Benny is right, I mean, CMMG sells Tactical Bacon.
  11. I can't even comment about what looks to be a hell of a lot of shooting, words cannot express the joy! I won;t be looking at the stages until the week before, so I just feed off of posts until then. jay
  12. Kinda a side note, but I use the Ed's Red mix for cleaning. It is a cheap alternative and gives you plenty of liquid for a personal parts washer tank.
  13. Brian, I think that was a Bushnell on that stage at the Blue Ridge, to be fair.
  14. John had mentioned to me at one point that he had a barrel from a well know shooter with over 20k though it. The barrel had something like 2 inches of throat erosion and was still holding 1moa.
  15. Thanks to all who attended this match. I hope it was enjoyed by all. If anyone has any comments in the form of a match critique please email it to me. What you liked and didn't, number of stages, number of rounds, you know the drill. We are looking to improve for the next one. Thanks, Jay jay@mn3gungroup.org
  16. Stages are set, we had people setting up from 0700 to 2030 hours, RO's shoot tomorrow. Some good tactical solutions to problems will present themselves. Look forward to seeing everyone on Sat. Jay
  17. No Idea, Kenny Anderson sent that to me. I think you have to load it yourself. Not sure I have ever seen any. I think it is going to be 45 seconds. It won;t be worth as much as last year. It will be a 50 point stage. All other stages will be based on the total number of targets available. Jay
  18. The match is about 10 days out. I have posted a link in the RULES section with the tentative rules we will be using at www.mn3gungroup.org. The suggested round count is as follows. 300 rounds of 2-3/4 inch 7 1/2, 8, 9, or 12 shot, 20 slugs and 25 00 buck shot. Del Tone Luth Range has a full line of target shells on site. They will not be able to help you with slugs and buck. We will have 12 or 13 stages set for this match. If you don’t have an application in get it in. It can be found at the link below. See you there Jay Check out http://tacticalshotgunchampionship.com/ for more info as well as match video from last year.
  19. I have to say, this line sounds like it is coming from an iron shooter. I like it. Waiting to see it. Your one line sums up alot. Jay
  20. Camping is 10 dollars per night. Lucas, can you print off and pass out some registration at your match on Sunday. I'd like to further increase the number of participants. I can't make it. Jay
  21. I was up at the range this afternoon. I am sorry to report that the lake or pond or swamp (whatever you want to call it) drops off too deep right at shore. I had planned for a stage to start waist deep in the water. I am sorry, I will not be able to deliver on this. Jay
  22. Jesse, That stage in the suspended half pipe looks fun. You mentioned the bar being set. I am just now designing a stage where we can shoot out of a hammock. Extra points for wearing a banana hammock while shooting this stage. For those who are new to this location Del-Tone-Luth range has a campground on site with electical and showers. Jay
  23. The JP, as pointed out is a short range sight where the Deucks are regular irons capable of any long range shot out to the eyes limit. The JP has in some of it's design, as being a back up to the winters up here in MN when LE take their rifles from the ice cold of a winter's trunk deployment to the inside of a tropical crack house running at 80 degrees with a power company subsidy to boot. That is when the eotech fogs and turns into a glowing 1" X 1" BLOB.
