I also have a JP with the lyman globe on the front. I can;t say that I have noticed the weight and am not sure a few oz would disuade me. Most of the long range shots are going to have some provision for support. jay

If you have a steel frame they are practically indestructible. If an alloy frame, well I would say how many years do you want the gun to last. If I was a master shooter I'd wouldn't have one. But, I work my guns to the bone to get better. There are some shooters out there who have become grand masters by shooting couple hundred thousand rounds of .22. Ben Stoeger is a testament. He has a good article on his website. Just type in his name into google. Jay

Rifle Steel Color
J.Schmitt replied to outerlimits's topic in Multi-gun Rules / Stage Design / Match Administration
In the same way the white backer disappears, the front flasher board on the MGM's, when white, blends into the whole target. When the target plate is white. At distance of course, with irons. -
Supporting devices in 3Gun

jj, Now that line has got me thinking. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. jay -
I do agree that many new shooters cannot take the ego hit of being bested by the rotund older gentleman in suspenders. It is also true if you make it fun then shooters will show. However make it more affordable and more shooters will show up more often. I respectfully disagree that TO & TI are economical enough for new shooters. As for "compete with what you have" did you start out with a JP-CTR02 and Benelli M1? If not did you feel you needed to "upgrade" to those platforms to "compete" rather than just participate? I do not disagree that they are both EXCELLENT tools to play this game with, but they certainly are not the cheapest. As for rifle steel colors, backers, ect that debate is ongoing here in case you hadn't seen it yet. Yeah, I just got the JP(friggen awesome)3 months ago to step in and take over for a 10 year old Rock River(great shooting rifle). I started out with a Nova which was OK because I had to learn how to run a course and reload first. I look at my local matches and I see 2 groups of people. Those who can obviously afford anything and those who have less expensive gear. I think we all probably know shooters who started out with lower end gear and learned how to play the game. They upgraded as they saw fit or could afford over a period of a few years. They excelled with what they had. Shooters who need to go on the inexpensive can make it work with some great products that are available. Ok, going to bed now. Handgun match in the morning and pheasants in the afternoon. Jay

No!!!!!!!!!!!! to any redrawing of a production division. Already have to deal with the 1x issue and who knows where that will lead when someone designs some wicked new product. 10 rnd pistol mags, not enough room on the belt for 5 of those plus a rifle mag or 2 and 20 plus rnds of shotshells. If a match wants to set their rules at a 30 rnd rifle mag limit I am OK with that. I like to reload my rifle. I like the current setup of most matches that start your shotgun at say 9 and reload from there with however many you got. Jay

Handled a JP LRP a couple weeks ago, 10 or 12 inch barrel with a PWS CQB comp. John said it increases the dwell time so that the bolt operates.

Yea you will.....to see who is passing you to the checked flag I just had to jab ya Jay! Best to you Patrick Time to poke the bear with a stick. M1A has won zero titles. I think you could probably end up winning with a Garand. That looks like a nice JP LRP you are shooting in the 3 Gun Nation article. Take care Patrick, Jay

Rifle Steel Color

Thank you JJ for laying that out. Well said. 100% agreement from an IRON shooter. Shadows are the worst. Now to get everyone on the same page. Build visible targets and I think people will come to shoot irons in TI and HM. Jay -
----------JP---------- Buy it, you won't look back.

I was quite impressed with the Smith Vortex a few years back. This past weekend I saw a Primary Weapons System CQB Comp. I did not see it in action but heard that due to the expansion chamber design it all but snuffs out flash. Anyone have some more data on this one. Jay

Big Shotgun Match next July?
J.Schmitt replied to TRUBL's topic in Multi-Gun, Rifle & Shotgun Match Announcements
Tim, I hate to ask this question. Can I read this to mean that Del Tone and DPMS have no plans to run Tri-Gun? Jay -
The adjustable gas block, like the JP is more of a set it 1st and use it. Over time it will build carbon and become "cemented". Many folks set the screw and locktite it in. It is not something you want moving. If it closes off in a match you have a single shot. Jay

Big Shotgun Match next July?

I'm interested and I know Jomar will jump at it. Jay -
If you can wait, hold out for the JP. As a new JP / CTR02 shooter I can attest that I was 100% impressed with the functioning of the rifle. The smoothness of the action is incredible. All the components of this rifle make it a great package. It really has it all. You will not be dissapointed. Jay

Thats funny and gave me a good idea for some other types of lube. So from the movie Major League "Vagisil. Any one of them will give you another two to three inches drop on your curve ball. Of course if the umps are watching me real close I'll rub a little jalapeno up my nose, get it runnin', and if I need to load the ball up I just wipe my nose."

As of now this tac iron shooter will stay with a front and rear sight and just get good with them. More to follow. Jay

Bad sign, you started to talk to yourself.

I use a 26" Benelli and it never had any issue with length. Jay

I used a modified in a 26" Benelli. Jomar's Mossberg pump doesn't have interchangeable and I believe it is an Improved Cylinder.

I was able to roll the thing in 2 with 00 Buck at the Ozarks. I was very happy. At some time in the future I hope to be able add some video, when I learn how. Jomar had the best run on the swinger. He was also shooting 00. First shot to the top, second to the bottom, It rocked horizontal. Then as it swung down he hit the bottom again bringing it to a complete stop. He stayed tough and punched it 2 more times to spin it. Jay

I picked up a Nordic .22 off the prize table at the Adams Arms Ozarks 3 gun. It is a complete rifle. Upper and lower. Thank you Nordic. Jay
