  1. We are carry 870's in out squads and qual with 00 buck and slugs. Jay
  2. We just had a match this past weekend. We cut off the D-zone on the targets. This range did not have the 1/4 size targets. After cutting the D zone for my stage, one of the other stages utilized the disgarded d zone, flpped it over and stapled it on as no shoots for their stage. This worked real well and provided for some unique target presentations we had not used before. Jay
  3. Hell yah on the Silver Bullet, JP all the way. Jay
  4. Jay, I have put the RRA rear sights on two of my rifles and they are great. These are the best rear sight set-ups i have found so far. They are a little pricy. I have the one made for mounting an EOtech atop the rifle, in line with sights. The rail of the sight runs along the entire top of the reciever and hase points of contact within the rail at the front and back of the receiver. I have a DPMS rear on my older rifle and I have had the same problems you describe. Not big problems, but the more solid the better. Brian About the DPMS, It is a fine rear sight and works as all the others do. It just takes some more finess to install it. Brian, I have the old style tac rail Rock River on my Elite M4. I have searched everything out there. I would have to say, not having it in hand, that the stand alone rear looks to have all the "fixes" I am looking for. Price? Maybe a little expensive, but then we are back to the buy it once montra. To the original poster, The Daniel Defense lookes solid and I like its simplicity. If you were to choose a JP Globe it would not work however. With The Globe you will need to use your rear to zero.
  5. I have a DPMS rear. I do not care for it. It's screws thumb down and then can be tightend with a flat head. It is difficult to get it tight enough to the gun. Too tight and it strips out or breaks. I had trouble with it moving under recoil as it listed to the left, with the right lifting ever so slightly up from the top of the rail. In searching for a new one to replace it I saw the Rock River Rear. I don't have one yet but it looks to have a much better mounting solution with a better style picatinny bracket and allen screws. Front sight, JP standard A2 sight or JP Globe. Oh yeah, and the JP standard A2 mounts via allen screws so no pin needed. Jay
  6. Also look at the pinned topic on the main rifle page for low power optics reference chart. JPRIFLES.COM also has some good info and a one place stop to view some of the scopes used in 3 gun.
  7. I like the matches with the hit it or didn't hit it scoring method. I would think that in a match with 80 percent or so steel that 2 anywhere or Horner would be pretty close, given a smaller percent of targets.
  8. Kirk, Those who have met you know what kind of a guy you are. We know you are burning yourself into the ground to get the scores finished. We appreciate your work and dedication. I would guess there is no slowing you down, so please find some down time in there for yourself. I too will be back next year. Jay
  9. Not the entire rulebook mind you just the stuff that everyone uses anyways. I wonder what would the MD's say if 3 Gun Nation required them to use thier rulebook if they wanted to be a part of the points series and show? Maybe it would work, maybe not. Isn't this another of the slippery slopes entering the 3-gun arena. Would THAT pistol held to the MD's heads be a good way of getting a rule book in place? We call it duress in some circumstances. Jay
  10. We see many new shooters at major 3 gun matches. You have to start somewhere. A major match can be very hard on the mind. Jesse spoke of his squad being his team. I agree with that. And as a result the coaching that takes place should occur in the walk through. Helping those newer shooters formulate plans to get them through. Even many who do well at stage prep run their plans through the minds of their squad mates to come up with the best plan. Coaching can be costly. Cameron stated a point to this. From personal experience, I was coached at a major by a RO. I was in a kneeling position firing slugs from a port. I ran my plan and exited from the port, turned and began to stand. The RO told me I left a target. I didn;t have to listen to him but it generated doubt and an OH CRAP response from my brain. I dropped back to the ground and began to load because my mind told be I had shot my plan which meant 1 round left. I loaded and fired. Total time of this on video, about 8 seconds from shot to shot. I then found out at after scoring from a team mate that I had hit the target 2 times. Video confirmed this. 8 seconds is costly in my opinion. Jay
  11. do the TO guys really want the iron shooters messing up their good thing. I won a Vortex Viper at the Nordic shotgun match. My fist scope. I have options now. Jay
  12. I don't shoot TO or HM because the divisions are too small. I enjoy shooting all of the divisions which us why I'm gonna build an Open shotgun an M14, an AR10, and I'm putting a prismatic on my backup rifle. Jesse, The division being small. Why does that keep you away. You can always compare scores to TO after the. (part rhetorical sarcasm suggested) Jay
  13. I would remove the bi-pod, go prone on sandbags both on the for-end and butt-stock. Get settled so you have no movement. Take a look at the link http://www.jprifles.com/1.6.3.php on the right side of the page you can download targets that might be useful. Jay
  14. Hell, I thought Remington ShurShot Heavy Dove (the type that Academy sells) WAS premium ammo - this is practically all I've used for the past 4-5 years and have had no ammo-related failures in my Benny-tuned M2. I don't shoot the stuff from Wal Mart - they sell another "version" of Remington Heavy Dove with the cheap-ass silver colored case-head. I tried to save a few bucks with this crap a couple years back and it only ran about 95%. Good news is I found it didn't run before a match when I was testing it - hate to learn hard lessons on the clock. I was running the Heavy Dove at last years Midwest 3 gun in my M1. I had a few malfunctions. I noted later on video that as the round was ejecting, I was getting burning powder flame coming back out of the ejection port as well as the front of the spent hull. The powder used can definitely be an issue. Jay
  15. If you have facebook, go to the mn3gungroup take a look at the top header, I posted a picture from the Nordic Shotgun match of a known individual who I will not name here shooting this exact style XRAIL. I will try and post the picture here in a day or 2. Jay
  16. I will have to wait a to look at the stages. If I start now I will try and run them in my head for the next 2 weeks. By the match I'd be burned out. But I must say the anticipation is getting to me with 2 weeks 3 days to go. Jay
  17. On the final stage Tyler was offered a reshoot because of a target malfunction, but Tyler declined even though it would have offered him a better chance to win the match. He said the broken target didn't have any affect on his shooting and it would have been wrong to do anything other than what he did. I think as a parent I was more proud of this than being able to place right behind him in the stadings. And finally, a big thanks to all of the sponsors that stocked the prize table to overflowing. Tyler's sportsmanship in this situation did not go un-noticed. He represented the Army, himself, and his family very well. Jay
  18. Doug left out that he smoked the charcoal stage with 22 pieces shot in 40 seconds. Very impressive. Jay
  19. He includes the bore compound with the rifle. Maybe a little vodoo, but 1/4 moa is not unheard of with his barrels. Everything about JP is about maximizing the rifle. I took the 15 minutes at the range and used the compound. Jay
  20. Well my shooting compadre Villamor pretty much summed it up. Thanks Tim for getting it all rolling, and Bob for being the best RM. Uncle Randy for hosting the match at his range. Please remember that Randy and his range has been attacked by those who would shut him down. High caliber matches with positive exposure can do good for the facility. Thanks to Susan and Bill for the pp donation. The generosity in this sport is amazing, from both the competitors and the sponsors. It was good to see some friend and meet some new ones. Jay
  21. Punch in these GPS coordinates in Google Map...38.039371, -92.651943 Or try this link: http://www.google.com/search?q=38.039371%2C-92.651943&rls=com.microsoft:*&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1 This is the entrance to the property where last year's match was held and I was told (not confirmed) that it is in the same property again for this year. We stayed at the Sleep Inn Hotel in Camdenton last year which was actually closer and less traffic to get out to the property. Jomar posted the gps coordinates a page or so ago. Here they are again.
  22. I do not have a welded carrier either. No thumb problems ever, not to say never could happen. 100 percent stock M1, only mods are a Nordic tube and follower. My extractor is very worn and needs to be replaced however
