  1. Does anyone notice how if it is warm in NYC during the winter the global warming stories go up dramatically. I just watched the Denver forecast and it looked like winter to me. To the morning shows and news programs, though, NYC is the center of the US. I've seen these kinds of warm stretches in January before and will see them again - along with a lot of 0 degree days also. When I was younger the talk was of another ice age. Enjoy the weather while you can - every day its over 40 is another it isn't under 40.
  2. The absolute best point and shoot is the Canon S3IS. With that said you might want to consider shape more than type. The shape of the S3IS is like that of a 35mm SLR and would not pack or fit easily in a bag with other types of equipment. Consider the flattest rectangular camera you can buy to your specs and try to get one that has a built in lense cover. I also have a Canon S50 and it has all the attributes you mentioned with a lense cover, but it feels like a brick. It needs to be flatter. By the way both the Canon cameras above can take movies - the S3IS takes really good ones 640x480 and can take a 4 gig SD card, but its shape would make it harder to pack and handle.
  3. Paul,I'm pretty sure Dave's trigger is stock. So is mine (currently), fwiw. Figure them at 4lbs. with that 2-stage glock feel. (Sure, I can get them down to 2lbs.)
  4. Hiding under a rock lately? 2005 Limited 10 Champion-Glock, 2006 Limited Champion-Glock.DA's can compete with SA's, it's the shooter..................
  5. Unless you want to make a 170 mag the 9mm and .38 Super Par mags are the same and should be tunable to both. I've seen them work totally interchangeably The problem comes when you try to make a 170 Para mag out of 2 standard ones. The front indentation at the top of the mag is not deep enough to keep the 9mm straight as they feed and unless you have the perfect gun you will have nose downs or other feeding problems. The solution I've seen is to use the Mec gar 9mm para mag as the top half of the 170 mag assembly. The Mec gars have deeper front indentations at the top front and it works. There may be a lot of other cures.
  6. I have crashed more systems with the big name anti virus software than you can believe. Last time I removed Norton I literally had to do a file search and anything with their name on it I ripped out by the roots (I don't recommend this unless you are at the end of your rope). I then installed the free version of AVG and the free version of Zone Alarm along with Adaware, Spybot and Spyware blaster. The free version of AVG automatically updates itself every day. Zone Alarm tells you when updates are necessary and the others I update whenever I start them. They all work great. This should be the hate forum because I hate what both McAfee and Norton do to my computer - they basically take over too many things and once in they are royal pains to get out.
  7. Sounds like a great package for an unusual piece. Of course you can make a Modified gun from it but it may not be competitive. The modified guns I have seen are really just open guns without a compensator. Some even have optical sights. I would want a little more weight in the muzzle and the longer sight radius of a full length slide. It also will probably not let you run a full length fat dust cover. Funtioning may also be a little problematic (i.e. harder to tune). No comment on the future of this division. That said if you like it and can practice with it who knows. You might want to have the moderators change this to the gunsmithing area for more technical resposes.
  8. Alright, here is my secret formula. I cut the dovetail on my slide slightly too deep by mistake so I had to find a way to hold the front sight in that would not break loose. This was made specially hard because my .40 seems to eat front sights. have actually broken loose full blades (they broke off the dovetail base). What I finally did was cut a small piece of brass from a .45 case and wedged it under the sight base. Drove the sight in clean and put thin super glue on both sides of the dovetail. 30,000 rounds later no problem as long as you don't dip the slide in acetone - but that would melt the fibre optic also. Sounds kind of Rube Goldberg, but it really works - what's the old saying "you can fix anything with duct tape and super glue."
  9. Not in my experience, they break equally as often - or is that too political.
  10. I am having trouble getting used to the new IE 7, but was finally able to add the link to my Outlook Express mail which made it more comfortable. Now Firefox changed to 2.0 and no longer has the link to mail that my old Firefox did. Darn it and I was just about to go completely to Firefox. Anyone know how to link the new FF to Outlook Express. I tried the "mail" add on but all it does is tell you if you have mail not how to get to it.

    This Feeling

Not a rebuttal at all, but all may not be dark as many of the new democrats that won are rated at least A by the NRA. I know this is the case in Indiana and in the Senatorial race in Montana(which is still in contest). Unless they are totally blackmailed by the likes of Pelosi they should still protect our rights.
  12. This can be a maddening problem and I have had the same thing happen. After about 7000 rounds it would double till I increased the pull weight (with the sear spring) to about 4.5 lbs. It would do it sometimes and others not. It usually only happened in matches and not in practice for me. The gun also passed the empty chamber drop test. I was told it was the way I was riding the trigger also but that turnned out to be dead wrong as none of my other guns did it with sub 2 lb triggers. I just started over. I ordered a new matched high quality sear and hammer set and sear spring from Brownells and retuned. This can be pretty involved as both left arms of the spring can effect the weight of pull. After a lot of tuning I actually had both arms bent about the same and the trigger at slightly under 2 lbs. It has stayed that way with no follow since. I think it was just the fit of the original hammer and sear. There really should be no way your finger on the trigger can cause the hammer to follow. Oh by the way be sure the middle finger of the sear spring actually touches and pushes the disconnector up (but also round and polish the tip of this arm - don't change the length). If that does not work someone gave this advice earlier it may be time for a new frame. I had to give up on a gun that I loved once for another functioning problem. Took me 3 years, 2 gunsmiths, untold parts and 2 nationals to realize the gun was never going to do anything but poop on me. Should have taken 2 weeks to make the decision instead of 3 years.
  13. Eric, just so you know the EGW die will probably require you to put the nut on the underside of the die head as they are not quite long enough.
  14. My wife just had her second treatment in both knees with Synvisc. It was pretty expensive at about $650/knee for three shots each. The first time she got the shots they lasted about 2 years in terms of pain reduction and she is hoping for about a year this time. Her knees are total wrecks and this is just about the only alternative to knee replacement at this time as she is just not ready to go through that right now. By the way you won't be able to run very much if at all with either "cure." A fast walk maybe if you are fit. The main thing she gets from the Synvisc was the pain reduction of bone on bone.
  15. Thanks, I did not look at it just remember what it looks like - I'm pretty sure it's intact. Just thought the idea was probably not original. By the way I got excellent accuracy out of the Colt design and ran one heck of a lot of full power ipsc loads (175 power factor and higher) through it and never had a problem with the prongs breaking off.
  16. Excuse me if I'm wrong about this, but isn't this the same way Colt Gold Cup pistols lock up the barrel tight? My bushing has 3 prongs at the rear that touch the barrel and hold it tight.
  17. Don't really think it should change anyones mind about going to a Bali match because I'm not sure of the credibility of the TSA but they have listed the airport in Bali as one of 3 or 4 in the world with questionable security. That may just mean it's easier to get on a plane there with something nasty than it is to go there with something nasty. What bothers me is the macho approach being taken by the IPSC GV forum whenever the problems there are mentioned. It's like you are a "wimp" if you don't want to go or suggest the match could be held somewhere else where the natives might be friendlier. Frankly I won't be going because I could never afford it - that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  18. I use privacy keeper on mine. It removes most everything you can pick up when you are on the internet including all those nasty temp files, cookies and the recycle bin. It also can overwrite what it removes securely. It's only a 1.2Meg download and works like a charm. http://www.browsertools.net/downloads1.html
  19. I don't go to indoor or outdoor public ranges anymore unless it is absolutely necessary. There are just too many citizens trying to give gun ownership a bad name by shooting themselves, or someone else. Here is an actual statistic on rental gun suicides. There is one every 2 years for every indoor range in the country. I used to be the match director at an indoor range but would not venture past the lexan till the range became private for the match. Gun store employees have a description of what sometimes happens. They laugh among themselves and comment that the mothership must have just landed outside as some of the worst offenders seem to come in clumps.
  20. You will know pretty quick if the new trigger fits or not. It should just drop in the slot and move freely. Some things you may have to do are polish the trigger bow with a dremel polishing point and take a little off the top and bottom of the trigger itself if it is too tight. Be very careful and only do a little at a time. One other thing, if your trigger job is very light changing the weight of the trigger could make for some real problems like not returning as fast, and even doubling so be sure to test before the match. I always weigh the new trigger and try to stay close to the one I was using. If your trigger job is over 3 lb this probably makes no difference.
  21. My picture is next to this in the manual. I have never tried to tank a classifier in my life, but I crash and burn on them constantly. From an outside perspective I probably look like I'm sandbagging as I have even won matches while blowing the classifier. There is something that just makes me freeze up when I shoot them. Don't know if it is boredome (because they are usually not very interesting stages) or a hero or zero approach, but I just visibly tighten up and do all the stupid things like jerk the trigger, forget to reload, etc. I really think there are very few true sandbaggers, but there are a lot of us who just try too hard.
  22. Depending on the weight of the safe, if I were moving it across carpet I'd try wood dowels. The kind they use for closet hanger racks. Line up several and keep placing them in front.

    I Hate Sprint

Where I live there is only one choice for phones and internet - Sprint (now Embarq). They know they have us trapped like rats so everything is more expensive. If my cell phone service (not Sprint) was only one bar better I'd can them in a moment. Maybe I will anyway and buy one of the cell phone booster antennas.
  24. First powder I used in a .40 was 330 with 180gr bullets. It's not that its a bad powder - in fact it worked fine, but when I tried the 320 the change in recoil impulse was very much better. Faster back on target and overall better feel. Same thing for 200gr. The more you shoot the more you will feel that 320 is better. Some like TGO like 310. I used up the rest of my 330 loading .38super steel loads and it works great and is super accurate.
  25. All the pros have talked to think Canon has the best electronics and picture quality. Even though some of them use Nikon they tell me it's because Nikon will sometimes let the larger photo shops into their base code, while Canon will not. I recently bought a Canon S3 IS which is in between the still photo only crowd and the point and shoot crowd. It is an SLR with a built in 12X optical Zoom and it has a movie function. It will take up to a 4 gig card and has available long lens and wide angle lens adaptors. All in a small package. It is just amazing in terms of quality and with prices circa $400 it cannot be beat. The final thing that sold me was the movie ability and the availability of an 18X optical telephoto. If you would like to find out more there are forums on Canon cameras with much more info than this one on guns. Just google Canon forums - that's how I found it.
