  1. I could not get used to the Gen 3 grips at all, so I never owned a glock until the Gen 4's. I currently have 2 G17 gen 4's. One of them is setup as an open gun. Any part that I needed/wanted was available for the Gen 4, except for the Dawson Ice magwells, but that's not a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination. True, used parts for the Gen 3's are easier to find, but the improved Gen 4 grip outweighed that for me. Look around for parts that you want and see if it's available for the Gen 4's, if so, it should be an easy decision. Here's my Open G17 Gen 4

    Open 34?

Probably because the 17 can be made to cycle faster since the slide is shorter and you don't need the long sight radius with an open gun. Maybe a little easier to maneuver as well. I went with the 17 route for that reason.
  3. Slide is on it's way to Mark @ L&M for some work
  4. Yep, no problem. Just find a threaded barrel for a 4'' gun not a 5'' and toss your comp of choice on there. You'll probably have to go to a much lighter recoil spring so your gun can still function.
  5. You bet! I had a few jams initially, when everything was brand new. A few hundreds later it's been working much better now that everything is breaking in. I can't wait to try it out with the lightened slide. Yep! I was trying to decide between the Leupold or the Cmore and after reading your review, the Leupold just sounded better. I'm glad I went that route!
  6. It's actually a RTF3 since they're both Gen 4's! Here's a mock up of the slide. The DP will also be slide melted.
  7. Thanks guys Been exchanging emails with a smith the last couple hours about getting some milling done on the slide. So hopefully there will be an updated picture here within the next couple of weeks.
  8. I've owned: SJC Titan (still on my rifle) Surfire MB556 PWS FSC556 F2 Comp The best 2 hands down for me are the SJC and SF. They are both very close, but the SJC would get the edge since it's like $40 cheaper The PWS was a effective comp/flash hider. But it's main purpose IMO is to bridge a comp and a FH. It does a good job, but in terms of a pure comp, it wasn't quite there. The F2... I had heard good things about it, so I tried it and it just didn't work for me. My muzzle would do like a weird figure 8. It wasn't effective at all for me.
  9. CR Speed, because I bought it a few years ago. No issues with it so no need to change.
  10. Well, I got myself a nice post deployment gift in hopes of doing more shooting this year. I just put a few hundred rounds through it to check for operation and seems to be running fine for the time being. Will need to throw a few more rounds downrange to get a better zero (cold weather along with 30+ MPH winds made it difficult) and for better long term reliability. Also picked up another one to keep in stockish form. Leupold Delta Point 3.5 MOA Bobby Carver 3 port comp KKM drop in barrel LWD SS guide rod with 11 lb ISMI spring Zev Magwell Edge Trigger Slide racker cover plate Extended mag catch and slide release DAA Racer holster and mag holster Taylor freelance extentions Slide milling for the DP along with some coffin cuts are in the near future
  11. Just picked up a DAA Racer holster, functions the same as the Racemaster but it's cheaper and offers a wider adjustment range while only giving up the aluminum body and ability to swap inserts. Great if your limited/open rig are the same weapons platform.
  12. Jeff also offers military discount, Thanks Jeff. Also the 9mm Gen 4 trigger comes with the new 30274 ejector if anybody was wondering.
  13. I just installed an Edge trigger into my open G17 gen 4. There is a very noticeable difference in reduction of pull travel/weight than with a LWD 3.5 connector/6 lb trigger spring and all polished internals.
  14. It'll fit no problem. The Gen 4 is the oddball out. It's larger diameter RSA will not fit certain comps, unless you switch to a Gen 3 RSA
  15. I have a DP 3.5 MOA as well. Only a few more weeks till I get back to the states so I can try it out mounted on a pistol. But initial impressions are very good. Large clear/distortion free glass and nice bright dot.
  16. I'm currently out of the states, so I don't have any pistols with me. Next best option is my roommate who has a xbox 360 and just bought Cabela's big game hunter. I also bought a Leupold deltapoint off a member here to make a open glock when I get back, so I mounted it on the light gun for the xbox. Arcade mode has a bunch of moving shoot and no shoot targets. It's the only thing I have to practice indexing and finding the dot so it's better than nothing.
  17. Slide Racker from amazon From LWD I have a 3.5 MOA DP. Still out of the states for 2 more months till I can mount it and shoot it!
  18. The OP is talking about DAA's new Racer holster, not the Race Master. The Racer is a cheaper ($$$) alternative to the RM. DAA Racer
  19. My girly mitts don't have enough meat on my hands to get bit. Guess I'm not in the cool club
  20. Has anyone tried both of these?? This guy has a DP and a STS, it's the closest to the RTS I've found so far. There's a bunch of pics in there so it may take awhile to load. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=132423&view=findpost&p=1490991
  21. For #2, check out promotive.com and see if you qualify for the Leupold Tactical Pro Team. I just placed an order for the 3.5 moa DP with all mounts for $335 shipped. The cross slot only version is $298.45 shipped.

    Small red dot for G17

Add the Leupold Deltapoint to that list as well. They'll clear you suppressor with no problem even if you get it melted into your slide. Here's some pictures of a melted RMR with suppressor sights. here
  23. I'm just assuming it's a 9mm. But SL has threaded barrels for other calibers as well. SL threaded barrel http://www.speedshooterspecialties.com/catalog/search.php?submit=submit&categories=Smith+%26+Wesson+M%26P+9L%2FPro&subcategories=Barrels and the comp here http://www.bb-enterprise.biz/item176537.ctlg zero-down, what mini red dot did you use?
  24. Getting the casings in flight was easy. Getting it with the slide/bolt open was much more difficult. The keeper rate was extremely low, about 30 of 888 pictures had the action open. A fast shooter helped a lot, since they fire in a predictable pattern. I had my camera set at 10 frames per sec, with a 30 frame buffer when shooting RAW. So I could capture 3 seconds worth of shooting. JPEG's would be a little easier since the buffer is over 100 frames, but image quality is degraded. I did manage to capture one shot where the hammer has just fallen before the slide opened, which is a first for me.
