  1. Broke 3 punches and never dented the force field holding this thing in. Got a new pin from Smith. Next trip to the gun smith I will have him press it out. Have about 2000 rounds through it with no problems from it hanging out the bottom of the slide.
  2. I use a factory 5 inch on my 40 pro. Got maybe 15,000 rounds and works for me. I have no idea if this is a wise thing to do so YMMV. I like the gunsmith version a little bit better than the Apex. But then I can not stand those trigger teats. That's what sent me to M&P's in the first place.
  3. Yes, or change loads. I have a 40 with a 9mm and the 40 and 9 do not shoot to the same poi. Adjusting my poa is not an option for me. Counting clicks when adjusting from one to the other will get you pretty close in my experience. Of course both my MP's randomly, sometimes significantly, change their poi a couple of time a year anyway resulting in a new sighting in process.
  4. That's why there are Dawson adjustable sights. I tried several times to make fix sights work but they are not for me. Every change in bullet or powder resulted in a change in POI. Kentucky windage doesn't work well for me in USPSA and 3 gun. Good luck.
  5. I also use a pipe cleaner to clean the firing pin hole. If cleaning does not fix I would put in a new striker assembly. Only because the heavy spring did nothing but make the trigger pull worse for me. New Assembly was the fix after over a year chasing the problem.
  6. I may have the only M&P that will not run on light ISMI springs. However, it has ran 6K or more without fail with a 11lb Wolf spring.
  7. I don't get it. They have a ton of guns out there with slow twist barrels and refuse to make the faster twist barrels available. They are still producing triggers in their pro model that most customers have to mess with to get decent. Then they chose to spend their resources on creating a relatively cheap open gun? I have just got to wonder how many folks would want one. I would love to see their marketing research. Kind of like Wilson bringing out a new slow twist threaded barrel for the Pro. How many people on the planet want that?
  8. Anyone else had trouble with the pin holding the extractor in backing out on the underside of the slide? I have found mine sticking out a 1/4 inch a few times lately. Punch it back in and during shooting out it comes. High mileage early M/P Pro 5 inch. Would the fix be a new pin? Thanks.
  9. TF. Never had to fit one. Uses an alan wrench which a set is in my range bag for optics anyway. Have never had to dissemble one on the range anyway. Have seen Arrendondos come apart upon contact with the ground. Impressive. Have notice TTI's are the fad now and I think they are excellent.
  10. Given the speed with which the did the 5 inch I would say about 2020.
  11. Shoot limited minor with your Glocks in 9mm. Check me on the uspsa web sight and make sure the grip mods are OK. If you have a good striker fired pistol smith in your area that will work as well as Apex stuff IMO. The new barrel design was in December of 2012 as I recall, you are OK. If you get a used full size M&P you can get the new barrel often times at Midway. The 5 inch factory barrels are just not avail although 3 or 4 aftermarket folks make M&P barrels. I have about 20K of lead through 2 M&P's. So lead works for me. Although I have recently been shooting Double Alpha coated bullets and like them a bunch for only a few dollars more. No smoke.
  12. I fought getting that stuff to stick to the insert for a couple of years. A few months ago I saw somebody stippled the back strap, your choice 20 bucks. I tried it and like it at least as well as tape. Got me a hobby soldering iron from Radio Shack and did the others myself. Did my friends. Can not remember who sells them for the life of me.
  13. Yes, it is new. It will have one or two punch marks on the bottom of the barrel chamber end. The old style have no marks.
  14. Out of mine the 147's were by far the best. I did like the recoil pulse of the 125's slightly better but most folks I know like the 147's a little better. Just a side note my standard size m&p had awful accuracy with anything but 147's which were ok accuracy. I got the new Smith barrel from midway and now my standard size pistol shoots 125's like a rifle.
  15. For me a buffer is solution looking for a problem. Kind of like a piston AR. I tried them some in 1911's and for me it was a way to induce malfunctions without any benefit. Decrease wear? Kind of hard to wear any pistol out for the most of us.
  16. Tarkeg, bless you for being an optimist. How long now has the production of that Apex barrel been imminent? Obviously they have experienced major problems in one or more area's of development or production.
  17. Thanks for posting, Matt. At $230 it should shoot well. I am surprised they put in that damn slow twist 1-16. Wonder what kind of bullets they used and if they used different weight bullets to test? 1/2 inch at 25 yards is gonna have Les Baer flinching. I assume it is a standard barrel at 4.95 and threaded. Why on earth tread this barrel?
  18. I have RAMS in both my M&P's. One showed an improvement and one showed pretty much nothing.
  19. Throw that mag over the berm. This will be a difficult habit to break. He will have to work on it and it may take a dq to make it important enough to him for him to stop shaking them loose.
  20. I have about 7000 rounds of 9mm through my 5 inch pro 40. I bought a take off factory barrel from a great guy here, 9mm mags and it has ran flawlessly. With the exception that it will not lock back on last round. As I use it with TF mag extensions holding 23 9mm rounds it is not much of an issue in 3 gun. Be advised I don't know if this is safe or prudent just reporting my experience.
  21. These are the plates you are looking for. 390160000 BOQH(006A)
  22. paid for mine maybe 99C a piece. Call Smith
  23. I also thought they recommended a 305. I have one 305 and one 285. My 285 is also bottomed out like Bluemoon's. I noticed that front sight being tall for about 30 minutes 3 years ago. I would try a couple of different loads before changing the sights unless you are in love with the 115's. I shoot 125ish lead and 147 lead. Both shoot close the same poa.
  24. If it was me I would put in a stock 16 pound spring and see if it ran. Mine would run with lighter spring until chamber got a little dirty then start having light strikes. I run an 11 on my 1911 and would love a lighter on my mp's but mine will not run reliably with a lighter spring. YMMV
  25. Took one out to my smith I had beat to heck. He takes a good look at it says this sight is cut to be moved from right to left. I open open my mouth to say "whaaaat?" he hits in one time and it pops out backwards. Go figure.
