  1. 38 supercomp. It is what I shoot now. Reasons have already been stated. It is certainly not free but compared to other expenses it is negligible.
  2. Both my Dillon 550 and 1050 exhibit these traits as well. Do an honest look back at the archives and see how many folks have to modify their Dillon presses to make them reliable. This is not really a good measure since there really isn't anything out there that is rock solid reliable.
  3. Does anyone really believe that switching to targets without heads will make our sport any more palatable to the left and mainstream media? I believe that they focus 100% on the guns and nothing beyond that makes a real difference. Until the guns are eliminated, we will not be accepted by the mainstream media and the leftmost population. Be careful what you vote for...The slippery slope is alive and well in america.
  4. Dillon has had a fix for the issues with this part of the press for at least 2 years now. Heard about it at the booth at Area2 last year. Funny, I just took mine off after arguing about it with Dillon service the first week I had the press.
  5. There are proximity skimmers available but only for the smart cards with RFID chips. I avoid these cards like the plague. Unfortunately they are becoming more common lately.
  6. If it does break Aimpoint will repair it for a nominal fee. Last time I sent one back I had bought used they repaired it for $30 plus shipping back to me. Great support for a 25 year old scope.
  7. Cant believe anyone could tell the difference when shooting of a few ounces. The older Comp XDs are definitely the sweet setup for me. Crisp dot, 8-10 MOA available, no discernable washout in bright sun, and yes light enough to be insignificant. Doesnt have the cool factor of a Cless but then who wants to play follow the leader anyway.
  8. Maybe there is a reason why you have such shortfalls? Maybe you need to save more ALL the time. Having excess cash is not generally an accident.
  9. Best way to safeguard against a squib is to NOT load one in the first place. Be as careful as YOU feel you need to be to not load a squib and then you never have to worry. I look into every case before I seat a bullet, period. Slows me down a bit when I reload but I sleep better at night knowing I am not going to have my wife injured due to a round I loaded for her.
  10. A large percentage of users here disable the ratchet right away when they get a 1050. Mine started malfing after a few hundred rounds. Do a search for this and you will see a lot of posts outlining how best to do it.
  11. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Trail boss seems to be the best way to go due to the higher bulk and I would like to stick with 454 cases if possible. Cost is not an issue and the cylinders on these look very tight so I dont want to mess with LC cases. Ill post an update after I have had a chance to try some of the TB book loads. The model 83 is a pleasure to shoot and own...The build quality on these is second to none.
  12. Yup. Sounds to me like they took care of you pretty well. They just took some detours along the way Costco is one of the few places that still takes good care of customers.
  13. Not really sure, Tom. I am looking for suggestions since I have zero experience loading for 454 or even long colts. I have only fired factory rounds so far and I would like to start loading some tamer range loads using 454 brass. Got a great deal on used gun and I love it. Got a favorite light load?
  14. Got a freedom arms 83 and it is a blast to shoot Anybody got any suggestions for loads and bullets for reduced recoil and blast? Just looking to load range ammo.
  15. MGs 115. I have shot more then 4 cases (15K+) of these with no tumbling and since they are JHPs and NOT plated bullets I really dont suspect the bullet is the issue. Looks like another thread is open in the open gun section? Only time until this is closed as discussion....
  16. Nope. In this economic climate I think this is a reasonable fear. We have had a rash of robberies around here related to open houses that were advertised in the newspapers. I take efforts to not let SOME of my neighbors know I am leaving on vacation.
  17. I feel your pain. Went through this with 40 limited loads a while back. What bullets are these?
  18. Good grief! 7 weeks since the last update on this and no resolution. Based on this thread, I and many others have had this issue for years.....Whats a few more. Thanks.
  19. That sounds like a cop out to me. I think I know which clubs he is talking about and that is just NOT the case here. This kind of desire to redirect the problem away from the original issue is what allows this kind of thing to be fostered at locals.
  20. i bought some of the PMAGs. they have .10" vertical play when seated in either my JP or my DPMS. (my DPMS mags and C-Products mags do not have this vertical play.) They run good when not prone. When prone, however, they cause hiccups. not good. tomorrow i am going to spend a nickel and call magpul and see whats up. Hmmm. Checked mine and they have zero play when seated. Keep us posted as to a resolution.
  21. Yup, it is pretty easy to become an RO. Hard part is often performing the task. How thick skinned are you? How willing are you to be the bad guy at matches and possibly with close friends? You will be called upon to make tough and often unpopular calls that will be unpleasant. It's worth the time and headaches to me but that is the question I think you should really be asking before you jump into it.
  22. Kinda easy to lose that perspective, huh? Thanks for sharing this.
