  1. Alot of info over in the revo forum on this. I run 3.4 of clays with a 158 LRN to make pf in a .38 special. 4 inch barrel. Good Luck Kevin
  2. I just wanted to throw in my .02 cents. As the previous poster has said these guys are usually one man shows. They tend to be, in my experience, enthusiasts in their sport who happen to be talented technically. Nobody is gonna care more than an enthusiast and their talent makes them popular. I've certainly been guilty of thinking that I could order up some custom work like clicking on an item in my online shopping cart and having it sent next day air for immediate gratification. It just ain't gonna work that way. Their business model is more of a serious hobbyist, again in my experience. My response to that was to do my own work. I'm fairly technical and I enjoy the learning process. I'm not sure I agree with your concern about liability. A lightened trigger is still light no matter who did it. A famous gunsmith isn't gonna help you out there, but I'm not a lawyer either. I say all of that to say that I've experienced your frustration and in my opinion if you don't want to do it yourself then I'd wait for Burwell. Or someone like him. If his reputation in competitive circles is good, you can't go wrong. Sorry if that was long winded but it took me a while to understand the way the custom gunsmith works. I still don't have any patience for not getting the product back after it's been paid for and promised. But I don't think that's an issue with anyone that's been mentioned here. Good luck and take care Kevin
  3. Here's a thread that a search on the .45 reloading forum turned up. I use 4.1 Clays behind a 230gr LRN at 1.250 OAL for a PF of 173. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99588&st=0&p=1138208&hl=625%20loads&fromsearch=1entry1138208
  4. I'm in Cali as well so I feel your pain. Maybe try reaming the muzzle brake. Brownells has got them here http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=5174/Product/MUZZLE_BRAKE_REAMER. We've got to work with what we've got out here. Sorry if you've already tried this, but have you tried it scoped with no muzzle brake to see if that's where the accuracy problem lies? Good luck Kevin
  5. Hey thanks. I don't see those guys very often anymore but I'll bet they'll be surprised if I bring it up. Couple of great guys. Kevin
  6. Just a question. Number 11 on that list says Dalton(US). Would that be Mike Dalton? Because I know that guy. He hangs around with a guy named Steve Blankenbiller who has mentioned shooting in Africa before. Just wondering if I might know some famous guys. Kevin
  7. If you decide you need it this should be what you need. I've never asked but I'll bet McMaster-Carr ships overseas. http://www.mcmaster.com/#51075k22/=5iquf8
  8. I tried it in .308. 24" barrel, 1 in 10 twist, all loads at 2.8 OAL, 175gr SMK. 38gr=2372 39gr=2420 40gr=2494 41gr=2570 Just started playing with it, still have a lot of work to do. But honestly it hasn't performed very well so far. Kevin
  9. I don't know the answer, but for a reamer question I'd call these guys. Super nice and always helpful. http://www.pacifictoolandgauge.com/contact.htm Kevin
  10. I use them in conjunction with a scale and a RCBS dribbler for small batches. Gets me in the ballpark and then dribble the rest. And 20nickels is right, they work on volume just like every other kind of dispenser I own.

  12. I tried it with a Wolf set up. It had a two piece guide rod assembly that would capture their springs. Didn't work very well, feeding and extraction issues. Went back to the factory recoil spring and it was 100%. Came to the conclusion that maybe a compact .45 wasn't suited to minor pf. The lightest load I ever tried was 3.5 gr of Trailboss with a 230 gr LRN, 1.250 OAL, 139 pf. Just tried it for fun really, cycled the gun but wouldn't eject every time. Maybe I'll try 3.7 some time.
  13. This is something Brian has posted in the past and solved my problems. Particularly the last bullet point as the above poster has said. That increases the effective stroke of the primer bar. Hope it helps Kevin 550 Priming Assembly Adjustment Notes: * Thoroughly polish frame, wherever priming slide touches it, with green Scotch Brite. (Approx. every 3000 rounds) * Wipe off Primer Slide with solvent or alcohol. Leave it all dry. * At rest primer slide adjustment: Set so that one primer, dropped down the tube, goes all the way into the Primer Seating Cup, 10 times in a row. * Angle of Primer Slide Operating Rod (13869) - Release rod from rollers and swivel it 180º so it's pointing straight up - it should be parallel with the Primer Housing Shield, or maybe outward "a little"; it should not be "inward" at all. * Be sure both screws (14530) that tighten Roller Bracket Shell Platform (14280) from bottom (to the Shellplate Platform) are tight! * Make sure Priming Seating Punch Assembly is fully bottomed out before tightening screw (13996): Measured from bottom of Primer Slide (13920) to top of seated Primer Seating Cup (13284/5), dimension should be between 2.125 - 2.220 inches. * Be sure Priming Operating Rod Bracket (13887) is adjusted so it's within a few thousands of an inch from the top of frame/Toplhead.
  14. I live in Los Angeles, not too familiar with dealers in that area. However there is a Turner's Outdoorsman out there, turners.com. They're a big enough chain out here that everything is always straight up. They can order anything that can be imported. If he's looking to buy used though I'd probably shop around for a local guy who has better prices on out of state transfers. Turners is about $140 IIRC. Any private party FTF transfer is fixed at $35, at any dealer in the state. Hope this helps Kevin
  15. http://www.dui-online.com/mil_bag_weapons.htm don't know if they'll sell them to civilians.
  16. You know I've been using some of those Fed SPM lately, because I could get them. Didn't affect any of my loads at all, at least not with my chrono. Surprising, but nice to know. Just my .02, YMMV. Kevin
  17. I believe you're referring to private party transfers, transfers from an ffl out of state to your ffl are different and more expensive, and involve sales tax. That's my understanding of it, if not the case I want my money back Kevin
  18. FWIW I just paid $300 for a 10-8. That was out the door after sales tax and DROS fees. The sticker on the gun was $250. Now this one was a little beat up but very tight. Neglected but probably not shot alot. I had been shopping for one for awhile, a shooter not a collection piece. It was a good price for CA, don't know about anywhere else. I've seen pristine examples going for $400 to $500 these last few months. I'm sure in other more friendly states the used gun market is a little better, I was happy to find one locallly. By that I mean importing a handgun into CA is a little troublesome and alot of ffls won't do it, kinda drives up the price on the stuff that's here. Hope this helps Kevin
  19. +1 on using the 625. I load these http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=682652. Yeah I know there for .45 LC, I just load them to cylinder length and the case volume is the approx. the same as an acp load. IIRC it's about 170gr. with #8 shot. I didn't buy any shot, I just opened up a couple of shells I already had. Only took 2 or 3 shells to get plenty of shot. I use the bottom end of load data with your powder of choice. They make the same style of shell in .38, they work well in my J frame. My practice range has had some rattle snake problems. It's hard to hear them with muffs on, I guess another good reason to step up to electronic muffs. Kevin ETA here's the .38 shells http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=313962
  20. I use that lube on rifle brass and retumble it to get clean, no problem.
  21. I learned alot from that, and your other reload video as well. Thanks alot Kevin
  22. Check out this thread http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=91236 I've got the same issues. Sometimes I get the better of them, sometimes not. I do better when I do shoot like I do in practice, there's no reason we can't. Kevin
  23. shock buff in that? ETA I run a 16lb with 175pf No buff not needed! It is not beating up the gun. I also run a 12lb spring in my 40. @ 173-174 PF. I like the feel of the 12lb spring. All this stuff has been talked to death here on the forum. Use what works for you. If your worried about beating the gun up us a heavier recoil spring. I have run the 12lb spring for a long time no damage to the gun at all. BK Thanks, I'm gonna give that a try
